Watching Itachi approach step by step, Danzo vaguely realized that he was going to die. But he had no intention of giving up—he still wanted to resist stubbornly. After all, as long as the mountains remain green, there will always be firewood to burn. Only when a person dies does everything come to an end.
He shoved away Hiruzen, who was trying to support him, opened his arms, and took one last look at his mortal enemy of many years.
Their eyes met briefly—there was a wordless connection between them.
But Danzo's eyes quickly filled with madness and defiance. He turned his head and began to threaten Itachi.
"Itachi! Think carefully! Once I die, the Four Symbols Seal on my chest will activate immediately! You'll all be buried with me!"
Just when Danzo thought he still had a sliver of hope, a familiar pain pierced through his senses again.
Blood surged to his throat and burst out of his mouth. Looking down, he saw the flaming sword had pierced clean through his chest.
His remaining life slipped away rapidly. Danzo looked back at Hiruzen, and memories of their past flashed through his mind.
Hiruzen... let me help you just once more. I have no hope of surviving... but as your shadow in the darkness, I will seal away all these filthy things in death!
"Four Symbols Seal!"
The surrounding shinobi all leapt back into defensive stances, preparing for Danzo's final counterattack.
Seconds passed. Nothing happened.
Danzo's expression shifted—his final technique had failed!
Itachi looked down at Danzo's desperate attempt and began to laugh—wild, mocking laughter.
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!"
"Danzo! Before the Totsuka Blade's seal, your resistance is meaningless!"
With Susanoo's control, Itachi pulled the Totsuka Blade from Danzo's chest, and a transparent spirit-like form peeled away from his body.
"Danzo. Your crimes are unforgivable. You will repent for all eternity within the seal of the Totsuka Blade!"
Danzo's soul was dragged into the blade with a final, echoing scream.
Susanoo vanished as Itachi's chakra and eye power were depleted. His body trembled and collapsed to his knees.
"Shisui..."
Just as Itachi was about to fall face-first into the ground, Fugaku rushed forward and caught him.
Seeing his son in such a state filled Fugaku's heart with silent pain.
Ever since Shisui's death, Itachi had withdrawn from the world, smiling only in front of Sasuke.
But Itachi had never spoken to him about the pain he carried inside. Fugaku realized—he knew too little about his own son. There were still too many gaps between them.
Thankfully, the arrival of Hikaru changed everything—Itachi, the clan, and the village's trajectory.
Danzo's corpse lay lifeless on the cold ground. Hiruzen knelt beside him, closing Danzo's eyes with trembling hands.
When he stood again, he looked as if a gust of wind might blow him away—his age and grief making him fragile and hollow.
Jiraiya looked at Hiruzen with a complicated expression, then turned and left with Naruto in his arms, heading straight for Konoha Hospital.
He already knew what was coming. He didn't need to watch.
Hikaru glanced at Hiruzen's hollow, broken look, and a deep, cold thought stirred in his chest.
This... is politics—layered in betrayal and cold calculations. Whether Danzo truly colluded with Obito the night of the Nine-Tails attack—he didn't know.
But with "evidence" like Wood Style and public justification, Danzo's death today was inevitable.
Hiruzen and Danzo both looked pitiful at this moment. But pitiful people often had something detestable about them.
If not for his own strategy, their crimes would've been buried forever—never brought to light.
No one would've sought justice.
It was only because Danzo and Hiruzen had seriously violated the interests of the shinobi clans that this outcome became possible.
This was why Hikaru had waited—for Danzo to act first. Even if it meant sacrifices, the Uchiha Clan couldn't afford to be endangered.
He needed to appear on the side of "justice."
Because if he didn't… someday, he—Uchiha Hikaru—might repeat the same mistakes as Danzo and Hiruzen.
He had to become invincible.
Hikaru stepped in front of Hiruzen, his face calm and cold, looking down at the Third Hokage.
"Sandaime-sama, it seems the villagers can't forgive Danzo for what he's done."
"And I can't forgive what you've done."
"It's time for you to step down."
"Abdicate."
With that one word, Hikaru ended the matter. The crowd had gotten what they wanted.
Sarutobi Hiruzen silently removed his Hokage robe and hat.
And just like that… he stepped off the stage.
Three months later.
The warm sunlight of early spring shone down on melting snow. The air still held a chill, but Konoha was beginning to bloom with life once more.
Winter had been harsh, but it had passed. Spring had arrived. New saplings pushed through the thawed earth—old crops had long been buried, turning to nourishment for a new generation.
Inside the Hokage Office, Nara Shikaku, head of the Jonin corps, sat buried under paperwork. He looked thinner than before.
Creak~
The door opened. Hikaru stepped inside.
Shikaku barely looked up before snatching a folder and hurling it straight at Hikaru face.
Hikaru sidestepped easily, caught the document in midair, and walked toward the desk.
"Hey, Shikaku-nii, why the temper so early in the morning? You'll give yourself a stroke."
Shikaku's face was twisted in suppressed rage.
"Uchiha Hikaru! You bastard! You still have the nerve to come see me?! Who was it that told me three months ago to keep the Hokage candidate a secret? You already had someone picked!"
"Three months! Three damn months! Do you know how I've survived these past three months?"
"I already had enough on my plate managing the Jonin corps. Now that Hiruzen-sama is retired and watching his grandson, all the Hokage's paperwork has landed on me!"
"Where's the Hokage? Where's the Fifth Hokage?! Jiraiya ran off to Mount Myoboku with Naruto to 'recover'! And you? Every time I ask, you say, 'soon, soon.' I'm done!"
"You've got seven days! Either find a Fifth Hokage—or put on the hat yourself! I'm quitting! I can't take this anymore!"
Cold sweat formed on Hikaru forehead.
It wasn't that he didn't want to find one. He'd asked Jiraiya—but the man had refused.
It seemed there was only one person fit for the job now…
Hikaru placed the file back on the desk.
"What do you think about… Tsunade?"
Shikaku blinked, confused. He tilted his head, thought a moment, then slowly nodded… then added a sly grin.
"Lady Tsunade, huh? Beautiful, bold, and, well… generous."
He gave Hikaru a look full of innuendo. His eyebrows waggled like a pervert from a hot spring.
Hikaru thoughts briefly drifted in that direction…
No, no, no! Snap out of it!
He shook his head.
"Shikaku, what the hell are you thinking?"
"I meant Tsunade for the Hokage position!"
