Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Unfair Elections

『Kotaro Hakari』

Now that I have decided I wanted a harem, what changed?

Absolutely nothing.

Yeah, turns out being a womaniser and a harem chaser have a lot of overlaps, who would have thought? The only thing that talk really gave me was clarity of mind and introspection. My actions did not see much change. At least for now, that is.

Speaking of change, there was a problem right now.

Today was Friday.

And there is absolutely no USJ Incident happening.

I knew that thing happened before the first weekend but now, it doesn't seem to be happening. Today's Heroics Class was already scheduled to be a Patrol lesson by All Might, where we would patrol routes in a mock city and test our observation skills.

And... nothing else. No unforeseen simulation joint, and League of Villains infiltrating the place was also late.

Until this point, Remix had been practically undetectable, but now it was giving me major anxiety.

This was also the reason I hadn't tried to warn anyone. I only knew a version of the world. I didn't want to lose what little knowledge I had by exposing it. Remix did say the overall flow of fate would stay the same, but did that mean a terrorist attack was going to happen anyway, or would USJ come later? Would it still be the same people attacking? More people? Fewer people?

I'd find out when the time came, I suppose. I don't think anyone would die. Hopefully, a medium-level curse wouldn't just kill off someone named.

I leaned back on my chair, closing my eyes and meditating a little, under my clothes I was practising Candy Paramecia, moving candy like a second skin and making it not stick to anything as an exercise in fine control.

Slam!

Aizawa, our not beloved grouchy homeless man of a teacher, entered the classroom in a demeanor I could only call "I want to sleep, but I'm forced to teach classes," which I could relate to despite disliking the guy.

He slammed some papers down onto the podium, and the entire class quieted down.

"Alright, quiet down everyone. For today's homeroom class, we are going to be doing something special."

At those words, a shiver went down everyone's spine; hearing special news from Aizawa was never a good thing. Last time we heard something analogous to that, we lost school orientation.

"By that, I mean you all are going to pick your Class Representative. I think you all have known each other long enough to get a handle on each other's personalities. Those of you who want your names on the board, raise your hands now."

"Me! Me! Put me on the board!"

"I wanna be the rep!"

"I want shorter school skirts!"

"I believe I am best suited for the job!"

Clamor.

The entire classroom devolved into rampant shouting as basically every student, other than me, went up to raise their hands and tried to be written first, even Toga. Which was to be expected, all of these students were elites striving to the top to be able to get into UA. Although in Toga's case, I was pretty sure she was just messing around.

"You aren't going to run for rep Hakari? You'd totally win though!" Kirishima all but shouted in my ear as I maintained my nonchalance.

"Nah."

As for me? I had zero interest. Why in hell would I want to take on more work for no tangible reward? I might get a ticket out of it, but the class rep duties would be annoying to manage. I leaned back on my chair and kept my hands in my pockets. With Leadership and Charisma, I was probably very well suited for the position. But suited and want are not the same thing.

Only...

Aizawa was looking right at me with narrowed eyes, making me sweat.

I know those eyes.

Those were the eyes of someone seeking petty revenge.

Bang!

He slammed his hands on the desk to silence everyone. Intimidating everyone back into their seats.

"Enough. I'll just take it as everyone wants their name on the board." Bitch. "Ida, go write their names on the board, your writing is the neatest."

I wouldn't have taken that as a personal slight if he didn't break eye contact for a single second while saying all of that stuff.

I will take my pound of flesh for this, Homeless Man.

"Yes, teacher!"

As Ida went to the board, Aizawa brought out his yellow sleeping bag and stepped inside.

"Everyone yawn gets one vote. Vote for someone who you think is useful, and don't wake me up until you decide who it is that becomes your rep. There are some... paper slips or whatever under the papers, use those."

With that, Aizawa slept while Ida took over, handing everyone a paper slip and telling us to write the name of who we thought would make the best class rep. The voting passed rather quickly, I obviously put in the name of Momo because she was about as smart as she was well endowed so I had no doubt in her abilities.

But the votes were...

1st Place - Kotaro Hakari: 5 votes

2nd Place - Yaoyorozu Momo: 2 votes

Everyone else was at 1 point somehow.

"...Why the hell did you guys vote for me?"

Despite not trying at all, I had been picked for the position at a landslide

This is one skewed as hell class president election, as expected of Shota "Rational Head" Aizawa.

"Well, you did stand up for everyone during Aizawa sensei's test!" Toru chimed in.

"And you took care of Deku-kun's finger." Ochako pumped her fist.

"Yeah, and you are always so cool and collected, Hakari-kun!" Deku this time. I think they are mistaking indifference for cool. I am just too jaded to emote properly most of the time.

"And you always take charge hehe~"

"Yeah, Hakari-kun just makes the most sense, doesn't it?" "Yeah, I can see it."

"Grrrnh, why does that Playboy always get all of the attention! It's not fair! It should have been me! Not him!"

I facepalmed audibly as Momo and I were forced to stand in front of the blackboard with Aizawa giving me one nasty smirk.

"I guess this settles it, Hakari, from now, you are the class rep, and Yaoyorozu, you are the Deputy Class Rep. Congrats, Hakari, enjoy the responsibilities."

"I should have known you would be the one to become the class rep, Hakari-kun. It still stings to know I only received a single vote other than mine."

Momo sighed while I gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

"Honestly, I think you'd do better than me, Momo-chan. That's why I voted for you in the first place."

Her eyes shot wide open.

"Wait, you were the one who voted for me, Hakari-kun? Why?"

I raised a judging eyebrow.

"What do you mean 'why'? Do you think there is a reason I shouldn't pick you? You think you are qualified to lead the class, that's why you voted for yourself, right? So that's why I voted for you, too. You are smart and capable, and unlike me, you actually care about this sort of stuff."

Hearing my words, Momo hung her head and looked a bit too moved by them. I get she had insecurity, but this was still just a Class Representative Selection. I turned to Aizawa instead.

"Hey, Teach, can I give up my spot to Momo-chan instead? I don't want this stuff, and if I'm forced into it, I will slack off or take it to the principal."

Aizawa sighed and rubbed his head.

"Sure, whatever, I don't actually care enough. Anyone going to object?" No voice spoke up. "I thought so, congrats, Yaoyorozu, and congrats for avoiding work, Hakari, you slacker."

"Thank you very much for the opportunity, Aizawa-sensei."

"Thanks for the compliment, teach."

"Whatever, I'm gonna go back to sleep, Yaoyorozu, it's your duty as rep to keep the class in line and not wake me up. Other than that, do whatever you want for the rest of the class."

With that, the sleepy caterpillar retreated back into his shell, leaving the class to be. Momo also turned to me with a proud smile.

"Thank you for your support, Hakari-kun. I'll make sure not to disappoint you."

Man, she looks so cute when hyped up like that, I almost have the urge to pet her.

"No prob. Don't expect to step into the class deputy position, though. If I were you, I'd pick Ida, dude is eager to work for this kind of stuff. He has so many horsepowers for a reason."

Hearing my words, Ida popped up from his seat as if he had been waiting for me to say that phrase with his chest puffed up, even though he got zero votes. He had as many horsepowers as he had enthusiasms.

"Indeed! Although it seems they do not find me fit to lead, I would love to assist in the duties of managing the class if you were to allow me to, Yaoyorozu-san!"

Momo looked shocked for a second before nodding and extending a polite hand towards Ida.

"Alright then, I'd be happy to have you aboard, Ida-kun."

"The pleasure is mine!"

Ah, so good to pass the responsibility to others and get thanked for it.

Feat Achieved! Be elected Class Representative and give up the position instantly

『Kotaro Hakari』

Apparently, despite the League of Villains stealing the plans being late, it was not too late. Just late enough to inconvenience me.

"{Warning, warning, a level 3 security breach has happened. All Students, please evacuate. I repeat-}"

Here I was, trying to have lunch and flirt with Ochako and Momo, and then suddenly some assholes thought this was the time to move in and cause a ruckus. Of course, Momo and Ochako also moved to evacuate, which made me tag along with them just in case. I also checked if the alarm was an actual one this time around, using Piercing Eyes and saw that it was still about the press trespassing into the grounds.

Having so many students trying to exit the cafeteria at once turned it from an exit to a goddamn stampede. You'd expect heroes to be and people who aimed to work at Hero agencies to be less panic-prone or, you know, less braindead. If so, you'd be sorely dissapointed.

"Ack, my ribs!"

"Everyone, please calm down! Ugh!"

I had to hold onto Momo and Ochako to not let them get swept away. Being bumped and pushed around by dozens of people really started ticking me off, especially when they were pushing around the girls too. Momo tried to raise her voice and get everyone to calm down, but she was not used to calming down a panicked crowd.

Although novice, my Leadership skill kept me much more levelheaded in this situation, so I decided to intervene and take charge. Otherwise, I was going to intervene violently by smacking people away from us.

"Momo, megaphone please."

I said in a stern and straightforward tone, grabbing Momo's attention, she quickly got the gist of the situation and unbuttoned the belly of her jacket, pulling out a megaphone. I grabbed it and let go of the girls for a second before making my Bikaku sprout and take me above everyone before I spoke into it.

"ALL OF YOU STAND STILL NOW!"

My forceful voice grabbed everyone's attention, making them feel surprised enough to get snapped out of their fugue, allowing me to continue.

"There was a false alarm! It was not an intruder who got in, and not an attack! If you all had followed the proper procedure instead of running around like headless chickens trampling each other, you would have known! NOW STOP PUSHING EACH OTHER AROUND, FORM LINES, AND EVACUATE PROPERLY! AM! I! CLEAR!?"

"""YES SIR!"""

They must have thought I was some sort of teacher or something due to not being able to see me properly as they snapped to attention like Aizawa commanded the class. My Leadership skills came in unexpectedly useful. I may have borrowed a tactic from my superior, who was an Ex-Military Drill Instructor and treated his men like it.

Seeing everyone start moving without pushing each other, I put the Megaphone in my bag of holding and lowered myself down, rubbing my sore throat from shouting so hard. As I landed on my feet, Ochako looked at me with stars in her eyes while Momo looked at me with renewed admiration.

"Whoa! You were so cool right there, Hakari-kun, it really felt like a teacher was talking. Just a few words and you calmed everyone down!"

"That was really impressive, I have much to learn from you, Hakari-kun. Are you sure that leaving the Class Representative position to me was a good idea?"

I rubbed the bridge of my nose.

"Please don't start."

That actually got a good humoured smile out of Momo, while on the other side I looked at my notification.

Feat Achieved! Calm down the stampede of students

+1 Bronze Skill Gacha Ticket

I don't care if you are giving me a Bronze Skill Ticket for this Gacha. I'm still not becoming the Class Representative.

A/N: Hakari has not volunteered, and Aizawa elected to ignore that and elect him anyway. We will get to Toru next chapter, I wanted to write the class election since I haven't done it before and... yeah, this shows how the class mostly views Hakari. Although his PoV is very biased against himself from the perspective of others, he is actually a pretty stand-up guy. What did you guys think about the election scene? I'd love to know.

Yeah, Hakari not only has Charisma and Leadership, but he was also a high-ranking Yakuza member; he is pretty good at asserting himself in situations like these. Also, USJ is late, is that a good thing? Is that a bad thing? Who knows. But one thing is for sure, whoever is going to find out is not going to have a good time.
