Chapter 12 - Chapter 12- Stormsong

Kieron hurriedly summoned the runes. He wanted to go to the description of his new ability right away but then decided to give his overall information a look first.

Name: Caster

Seeing the name, Kieron felt irked. The spell really wants me to be Caster huh? Fine, I'll oblige. From now on I will play the perfect Caster for you spell.

***

True name: Opposer of Miracles.

Rank: Dreamer.

Soul Core: Dormant.

Soul Fragments: [0/1000].

What? They are back to zero. Why? Were they used to enhance my overall powers further? I suppose I have a slight edge in that case… well, I have a massive edge in other areas heh.

Memories: [Green Jade Jian], [Hourglass Charm], [Poetic Mantle], [Book of Books], [Vivienna's Armor].

Echoes: --

Attributes: [Below Speed], [Knowledge Usurper], [Sorcerer], [Stormsong].

A new attribute? How the hell?

[Stormsong: Your true essence is in thunder. Brimming with storm-born strength. Your essence is potent and efficient.]

Kind of like Neph's "the fire" attribute, except with lightning. I like it. This seems like the… the… inheritance? I am forgetting what they are called, but this seems like the inheritance of the storm god at first glance. However, I doubt it's related to the storm god because, I don't have any divinity attribute. It seems that I, probably, got it when I survived the thunder bolt that the terror launched at me. I didn't know attributes could form from situations like that. But this is good, with this, my aspect efficiency should go up a lot.

Sighs.

It seems this attribute saved my life back then. If the book didn't bound to me, and this attribute didn't create itself, I'd have definitely died. It was an attack fueled by an awakened terror, so I doubt even masters would have survived a direct hit by that. Perhaps saints would struggle a bit too. An aspirant surviving that is ridiculous. Getting a new attribute right at the moment of death just seems too coincidental.

Aspect: [Lies of the Omniscient Reader].

Aspect Rank: Divine.

Aspect Abilities: [Acquired Haste], [The Fourth Wall]

Aspect Ability Description: [The protector that separates reality from fiction.]

What does that mean? Is this a summoning ability? Nah, i doubt that. It is a "wall". Not sure what this defends against. Perhaps its a mental wall, seeing it says that it separates reality from fiction. My ability before the enhancement was also a one that calmed my mind, so there is a good chance that this is also a mental wall. Perhaps this means that Cassie can't see my attributes and stuff.

[All power has a price.]

I don't have a good feeling about this. Please, just don't be a crippling flaw!

[You have received another Flaw.]

[Your Flaw is: ...]

Flaw: [Strength is death], [Satisfaction's Plague].

Flaw description: [You will never feel satisfied.]

Caster stared at these words, his eyes nearly popped out of the socket.

You've gotta be kidding me! Won't this basically make me totally hungry for power? Or is this just an impulse? I hope it is the latter. If it's an urge or a feeling, I should be able to control them. Also why do I have two flaws, I only have one aspect, even though it works like two, they are inherently one!

Sighing tiredly, Caster sunk down slightly. Fortunately, it isn't crippling. That would have been really bad.

"Fuck… I'm feeling so tired with all this."

Just at that moment Spell spoke again softly, in its feminine voice, but it spoke something ironic:

[Wake up, Opposer of Miracles!]

***

Caster opened his eyes; he was laying on his dorms bed. A Ceiling fan…

The room wasn't anything beautiful, but he was so glad to come out of the nightmare. He'd have nearly cried, if not for his aspect.

He missed the real world a lot in the nightmare. It was safe and familiar. There were no monsters or knights trying to kill him… There was no constant fear of torturous death.

"Phew…"

Getting up from his bed, he turned off the fan and went into the bathroom to take a bath. Caster's body was already really tone and good looking, and now it only looked better. Caster could feel his body's strength having leaped. The jump was exhilarating, but it was not enough.

I wonder how big of a difference is between a dormant and a sleeper. Also, thinking back on my true name "Opposer of Miracles" it seems pretty ominous. Now that the souls merged and I have gotten Caster's, or well, my memories back, I can seem to read its runes better. It can also be read as "Opposer of Fate" or "Opposer of the Divine". Weird. Is this a coincidence?

Getting out of the shower, he wiped his body and got back into his clothes. The clothes were made of a synthetic material that seemed to allow for a large range of motion. A popular attire for training at the academy.

Knock.Knock.

Hmm?

Caster's calmly took steps towards the door, opening it and seeing a somewhat short figure leaning on the wall besides the door as if it was just waiting and not expecting an answer. The figure was none other than Sunless himself.

The man, the myth, the legend. kewk

Trying not to laugh at his face, Caster spoke neutrally, with a hint of warmness, "Oh hello Sunless, what brings you here?"

Sunny got a bit alert. "Professor Julius... and other officials were wondering where you had been gone to... I was just unfortunately roped in okay? To check on you."

"Well, thank you for that."

Sunny looked at Caster with a weird, hard to read face. Soon be broke the uncomfortable stare down and asked in a high voice, "So...?"

Pretending to not get his question, Caster calmy asked back, "So... what?"

"What were you doing, holed up in your room for 3 days? Obviously"

Not wanting the reply to sound too robotic or practiced, Caster took his hand and rubbed the back of his neck as he replied with faux hesitation, "Ah... i was just... hmm... training for isolation, without food and stuff. Who knows what situation arises in the dream realm you know? Best to get ready for it all."

Skeptical, Sunny gave Caster a weird look, however he didn't dare make more small talk. He couldn't risk slipping up in front of him.

He turned without a word, and started walking away into the quiet, lonely corridor. The soft hush of his footsteps barely disturbing the stillness. The air hung heavy, with a freshly made absence. Facing away from Caster, Sunny spoke up: "Be sure to clear up with professor Julius... and the officials. And I'm only saying this cuz they asked me to!"

"Sure... sure. Don't worry about that."

Oh Sunny, you just can't be honest with yourself. Also, why're you acting tough? Aren't you supposed to be keeping a low profile? Or is this another psychological cue you're trying to implant? Sunny, you cunning bastard.

Walking in the same direction Sunny went in, Caster followed behind Sunny. His footsteps calm, however Sunny's footsteps weren't. They felt hurried as it in a rush, not wanting to talk more with this legacy, not wanting him in his line of sight itself!

Oh sunny, you're breaking my heart, don't run away from daddy. I'll help you.

Of course, he didn't say that out loud, Caster had not created a relation with sunny to act like that. If he would say that to Sunny, the most likely outcome would probably have been something like Sunny grimacing his face in disgust, or Sunny ignoring what he says, or Sunny completely cutting off contact, or all of the above. And unfortunately, logic takes priority over such dialogues, however interesting they may be.

Still, he continued following behind him, not as a stalker obviously, they were both just going to the same place!
