Chapter 217 - MHGA Chapter 217 – Jet Thrust Blitz!

MHGA Chapter 217 – Jet Thrust Blitz!

"Why didn't you tell Maine about it?"

The moment David said those words, Lucy punched him in the nose—

David clutched his face, stunned.

"Shut up!"

Lucy snarled fiercely at him.

The two of them had wandered out to a more remote part of the outskirts.

There weren't many people around—just the odd Night City street punk loitering here and there.

"Ugh…"

After punching David, Lucy crouched down and held her hand.

"What kind of cyberware do you have in your nose?

Why the hell is it that hard—

and I couldn't even scan it!

Did you install a chunk of iron in your face?"

"Uh…"

David scratched his cheek awkwardly and gave a sheepish grin.

Ever since he started eating Felyne Meals at the Gathering Hub, his physical capabilities had been skyrocketing.

Because of that, David hadn't felt any need to get cyberware implants.

Even when using Recovery Medicine, he was careful to only use standard ones—

just in case a stronger one would cause his growing muscles to pop out the cybernetics in his back.

The Guildmaster had explained that it was because the Felyne Meals were full of nutrients—

Give a Hunter proper food, and of course they'd bulk up.

Then he went on about "Granny Felyne's divine gift," "Granny Felyne the sacred one," or something like that…

At one point, Kairo Retsu even tried to drag David off to worship Granny Felyne,

but she bonked him on the head with a ladle and told him off for being "a mischievous boy."

"What are you grinning about?"

Lucy scowled when she saw David's expression.

"You're seriously gonna run jobs with that big hunk of metal no one can even scan?

You planning to bludgeon people to death with it?"

"Who even gave you that thing?!"

Lucy scolded him.

"And out of all the things you could've done—

why the hell did you choose to be an edgerunner?!"

"You're here too…"

David said quietly, looking at Lucy.

"It's just…"

Before he could finish, David suddenly felt something was off.

He looked up and saw several street punks from Night City closing in.

Judging by their hostile intent, David had the sudden urge to sigh.

Seriously, were gang punks Night City's local product or something?

They spawned on a timer like clockwork…

But just then, Lucy grabbed David by the collar and yanked him close.

She leaned in, whispering directly into his ear—

close enough to tickle the back of his neck.

"You see those guys?"

Lucy murmured,

"Perfect chance to show off your big metal toy.

Shouldn't be a problem, right?

Oh—"

She twisted her grip and hurled David forward—straight toward the thugs.

"Being an edgerunner isn't that easy."

David blinked in surprise and turned to glance at Lucy.

In that split second, a lot ran through his mind.

Like… why was Lucy so mad in the first place?

Then, it hit him.

Maybe Lucy was worried about him?

As that thought surfaced—

The gangsters began speaking:

"Hey kid, hand over your—"

Their voices stretched into a drawn-out blur in David's perception.

Sandevistan kicked in—

and David's cognition surged into overdrive.

In just one instant, Lucy watched as David whipped the Defender Gunlance off his back.

With one foot, he stepped on a thug,

with his shielded right arm he bashed another aside,

and with his left hand, he drove the Gunlance into a third gangster's shoulder.

"?!"

The last thug froze up completely—

then bolted without hesitation.

He scrambled into a nearby car, floored the gas, and sped off.

"Was that good enough?"

David looked back at Lucy with a hint of hopeful pride.

"You let one get away."

Lucy, though surprised, simply tilted her chin toward the retreating car.

"Disqualified. You should probably give up on being an edgerun—"

Before she could finish, she saw David flip the Gunlance behind his back.

That chunk of metal she'd mocked as useless—

Suddenly flared from the barrel tip with a fiery blast—

and exploded.

Using the Gunlance's powerful recoil, David launched himself straight toward the fleeing thug's car.

The Gunlance—a heavy weapon wielded with the left hand on the barrel and right hand on the shield—

It evolved from the traditional Lance and Shield combo by incorporating cannon fire into the weapon itself.

By loading special gunpowder into its body, the Gunlance could deliver massive blasts.

Despite its clunkiness compared to other Hunter weapons, it had one unique, incredible technique:

Jet Thrust Blitz!

—Using a loaded shell to produce explosive propulsion, it let the Hunter perform a lightning-speed burst.

"Sandevistan!"

While propelled by Jet Thrust Blitz, David activated the Sandevistan—

The world slowed around him, and in mid-air, he adjusted his trajectory—

and executed a second Jet Thrust Blitz while airborne.

The bulky Gunlance, now as fast as a comet, rocketed toward the speeding vehicle.

From Lucy's point of view—

David had blasted off,

pivoted twice in mid-air using his strange weapon,

then slammed down hard onto the thug's car from above.

The Gunlance, now activated with explosive energy, detonated,

blowing the car's roof off entirely.

David stood atop the wreckage, pulled the stunned thug from the driver's seat—

and dragged him back to Lucy.

"That's all of them taken care of," David said with a grin.

"So I'm good enough to be an edgerunner… right?"

He scratched his head as he asked.

"..."

"Idiot."

Lucy spat the word, then turned and walked away—

leaving behind a dumbfounded David and four thoroughly wrecked thugs on the ground.

"…?"

David scratched his head again.

He'd come to one conclusion:

He really didn't understand what girls were thinking.

So—

After clocking out for the day with Maine's crew,

David immediately returned to the Gathering Hub—

—and clung to Kairo Retsu's leg.

"Guildmaster!! Teach me how to understand what girls are thinking!!"

David looked dead serious.

"If you don't teach me, I'm not letting go!!"

"Let go!!

You're OOC, dammit!

This is completely out of character for someone like you!

Where the hell'd you even learn to do this?!"

"From you and Kazuma!"

David answered without hesitation.

"I'm not letting go!

If this keeps up, Lucy and I are going to drift apart!!"
