MHGA Chapter 168 – Chito and Yuuri

Yotsuya Miko cried for a long time in the room. Eventually, she cried herself to sleep, which left Kairo Retsu scratching his head.

Should he leave now or stay here with her? After all, Miko was still a girl—would it be inappropriate for him to just sit beside her like this…? But if he left and she woke up, wouldn't she feel even more anxious…?

"Guildmaster?"

As Kairo debated with himself, a soft voice called from the doorway. He turned and saw Tanjiro Kamado quietly calling for him.

"What's up?" Kairo walked to the door. "You looking for me?"

"That girl… is she a new member?" Tanjiro had also noticed the sleeping Miko inside the room. "Actually, there's something important. There are two girls I've never seen before with an odd-looking car at the base entrance. They seem concerned about the outpost…"

"And…" Tanjiro looked a little uncertain. "I came to the Gathering Hub for training, but for some reason, Nezuko came with me…"

"The Felynes said Nezuko is my Handler now… or something like that."

"Huh?"

Kairo scratched his head. "Ah, so that's what's going on. I was just about to explain."

"The girl in the room is Yotsuya Miko. She's our new Handler…" Kairo gave Tanjiro a quick explanation of what a Handler was.

But Tanjiro focused on something else: "Yotsuya Miko… was she a shrine maiden from somewhere?"

"Eh?" Kairo froze for a moment—then suddenly remembered that the Hub's system included a translation filter between languages.

Miko's name in Japanese sounds like "miko," which means "shrine maiden." And the name "Yotsuya Miko" sounds like "Miko of the Yotsuya family"...

"Well, in a way, she really is like a shrine maiden. But her name is just Miko," Kairo explained softly before asking, "Tanjiro, could I ask you to stay with Miko for a while? She's been through a lot, and before coming here, she was constantly afraid. If she wakes up and there's no one around, she might panic again."

"I understand!" Tanjiro nodded earnestly. "You go ahead, Guildmaster. Nezuko will help too!"

"It's really great to have someone like Tanjiro among the Hunters." Kairo sighed with gratitude.

If it were Kazuma instead… there's no way he'd dare leave Miko in his care. If Miko woke up to see the most morally bankrupt Hunter—Kazuma—she'd probably be even more terrified...

Now look at Tanjiro: kind, polite, considerate, unwavering in spirit, and even when showing sympathy to an enemy, he does it after killing them properly…

With Miko entrusted to Tanjiro, Kairo quickly made his way to the outpost gates.

When he got there, he found a scene that could only be described as… chaotic.

Outside the gates was a slightly worn half-track motorcycle. Two rather petite girls sat atop it, both dressed in military gear and wearing helmets. The smaller black-haired girl was driving, while the blonde one held a bolt-action rifle, eyeing the outpost with intense wariness.

Inside the outpost, Nezuko stood with the Felynes, all watching the girls with worry.

"Guildmaster!" the Felynes cheered as Kairo arrived.

"Guildmaster," Nezuko said anxiously, "is this where my brother works as a Hunter? Those two girls outside… they seem really scared of this place…"

"It's alright. I recognize them."

Kairo reassured Nezuko and turned his attention to the two girls outside the gate.

That vehicle, the setup, the uniforms and helmets… no doubt about it. These were the protagonists from Girls' Last Tour—Chito and Yuuri.

Living in a post-apocalyptic world, suddenly arriving in a place like this and being wary was only natural.

"Nezuko, could you do me a favor?" Kairo asked as he kept his eyes on the two girls. "Please go find Granny Felyne—you've met her once, right? Ask her to prepare some nutritious food."

"Looks like we're getting more than one or two Handlers today…"

"Okay, Guildmaster. Please be careful." Nezuko cast a worried glance outside.

Though she didn't know much, the weapons those girls were holding looked like guns… kind of like the ones Genya used. She hoped no one would get hurt.

"Don't worry. I'm the Guildmaster."

Kairo strode toward the gate. "I'm Kairo Retsu, the Guildmaster of the Hunters…"

"Chito, Yuuri—welcome to our ranks as Handlers."

As Kairo spoke, he steadily approached the two.

"First, come and have some of Granny Felyne's cooking. To help you believe us as quickly as possible… I'm going to approach you directly now…"

"!"

Without warning, Kairo charged toward the still-wary girls.

Back inside the reception lodge, Tanjiro, waiting at the door, suddenly heard the sharp crack of a gunshot echoing in his ears.

Though worried, he chose to trust Kairo's judgment.

Not long after, a prompt from the Hub's voice chat popped up in front of Tanjiro, a message from Kairo sent to all the Hunters:

"If you've got time, come get some Felyne Chow at the canteen! We've got new members—and a little surprise waiting for you…"

"We've got new Handlers joining us! Fresh AIBOs! Cute girls, no less!"

Tanjiro scratched his head.

Though there had been gunfire, it looked like things were already under control…

So there were Handlers arriving even before the new Hunters? The Gathering Hub was really getting livelier.

As Tanjiro pondered this, he noticed that Miko, who had been sleeping in the room, was beginning to stir.

"Hello!"

Seeing Miko wake up, Tanjiro stepped into the doorway with a bright smile. "You're awake! I'm Tanjiro Kamado, a Monster Hunter just like the Guildmaster. I'm from a different world than yours."

"Uh… hello?" Miko blinked blankly at Tanjiro.

"The Guildmaster says we should head to the canteen. Would you like to come with us, Miss Miko?"
