Rorik's bombshell about Elias's plan breaking an ancient pact had us all rattled, the war room still buzzing from his interrogation. Annalyn clutched the focus stone, her pregnancy making her wince every few minutes, while Lucas paced like a caged wolf. My knife was out, twirling between my fingers, as Matteo tapped his laptop, and Ezra's runes flickered, scanning old scrolls.
Mara and Russo stood warded in the corner, Mara's Visaya runes dim, Russo's smirk irritating as hell. Kael, our other chained traitor, watched quietly, and with Elias's army still lurking, we had to research this pact fast or get screwed harder.
"Okay, pact boy," I said, leaning on the table toward Rorik. "You dropped that bomb—now explain. What ancient pact is Elias breaking?"
Rorik shifted in his chains, smirking. "Old Moon Alpha deal, from centuries ago. Packs agreed not to mess with resurrection magic. Break it, and all hell breaks loose—spirits, curses, the works."
