Chapter 22 - School of the Dead

Thump! Thump! Thump!

The soda can Roy threw made a clear sound on the ground, like a signal, and the zombies on the street all looked up.

The zombies charged towards Roy, a vast horde, creating a sense of overwhelming pressure like a mighty army.

The first zombie to arrive grabbed at Roy with both hands, opening its blood-filled mouth to bite down fiercely.

Roy pulled out the Village Good Sword and lightly swung it.

A sharp sword gleam flashed, and the zombie's movement abruptly stopped, its head horizontally split in two, the upper part sliding down, revealing its brain matter.

These zombies needed their heads blown apart to truly die; with ordinary swords or blunt weapons, it would take several hits to kill them, but the Village Good Sword's sharpness could easily cut through even hard bone.

The first zombie died, but the zombies behind it felt nothing, continuing to advance, their stiff faces showing no fear, just like the monsters in the Underground City, devoid of reason, only wanting to tear apart the human in front of them.

A 獰笑 appeared on Roy's face as he slaughtered zombies, using the convenience store as his base, defending the entrance alone, exuding the heroic spirit of one man holding off ten thousand.

Any zombie that came, died, without exception!

The basic attributes of these zombies were similar to Goblins, but being bitten would cause poisoning, and without the "Abnormal Resistance" development ability, Roy dared not say he could withstand the corpse poison. Fortunately, with his agility attribute that had broken its limits, he flexibly dodged the zombies' attacks.

Bodies piled up like mountains, blood flowing like rivers.

When the kill count reached one hundred and sixty, the number of zombies attacking the convenience store began to decrease.

"Strength: 630 → 636 (C)"

"Endurance: 678 → 698 (C)"

Roy looked at his panel, noting the clear increase in his endurance attribute. He rubbed his slightly sore shoulders, a wry smile appearing on his face.

This was hard physical labor!

Given the zombies' basic attributes, as long as he didn't court death, it was practically impossible for them to injure him, but killing a thousand zombies was no easy feat.

After killing at most three or four hundred zombies, his stamina would run low, and his movements would noticeably slow down.

Roy stepped over the zombie corpses and walked out of the convenience store, casually clearing out a few nearby zombies, then headed straight down the street, slaying gods and Buddhas alike!

"Zombie Kills: One hundred eighty-two."

"Zombie Kills: Two hundred one."

"Zombie Kills: Two hundred twenty-eight."

...

By the time Roy had cut his way through a street, it was already dusk, and at the end was a school.

Looking at the plaque above the school gate—Fujimi Academy—Roy recalled the plot of this world; he had fought his way to the protagonist group's school.

It was exactly what he wanted; the number of zombies in the school was relatively higher than in other places.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Roy knocked on the stainless steel crossbar at the school gate, and the clear sound echoed throughout the entire school.

Numerous zombies slowly raised their heads and charged over in a dense mass, like students after the cafeteria opened for mealtime.

Roy took a swift step forward, entering as if into an empty realm. The Village Good Sword in his hand whirled with power, wildly harvesting zombie heads, blood splattering.

Such a large commotion naturally attracted the students who had survived and were hiding in the teaching building.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong with that guy?"

The students had blocked the classroom doors with desks and chairs to fend off zombies. Hearing the commotion, they poked their heads out the windows and saw Roy slaughtering everything in the open space.

Takashi Komuro and the others in the teachers' office were no exception, stunned speechless. The young man's face was filled with a mad smile, as if he was telling the hundreds of zombies before him: You are surrounded by me alone!

"Is that a human?" Rei Miyamoto's small mouth was slightly agape.

His swift movements were like a fierce beast, yet he flexibly dodged all the zombies' attacks, fighting like a one-man army amidst hundreds of zombies, turning the world upside down with his killing.

"I don't know, at least I don't think an ordinary human can make those movements," Saeko Busujima said. As the captain of the Kendo Club who had won the national championship, she considered her close-combat abilities far superior to ordinary people, but in front of that young man, she felt outmatched.

Saya Takagi's eyes lit up, and she said, "This is our chance! While that guy is attracting the attention of these monsters, let's quickly leave the school!"

The office fell silent.

Saya Takagi noticed that the others' gazes towards her were a bit off, and she said discontentedly, "What's wrong?"

Saeko Busujima asked, "You want to use him as bait, so what will happen to him?"

The zombie outbreak had just begun, and everyone still retained a basic sense of right and wrong, especially a group of students. Asking them to sacrifice someone else for their own survival was a difficult choice.

"So what?"

Saya Takagi retorted, "It's not like we forced him to do it; he's dealing with the monsters himself. Even if he dies, it's his own doing."

Everyone fell silent. They had originally planned to break out at this time, and coincidentally, someone was helping them attract the zombies' attention—it was a heaven-sent opportunity.

"Let's go!"

Saeko Busujima broke the deathly silence.

This was an opportunity not to be missed, so everyone could only accept this outcome. Takashi Komuro and Saeko Busujima acted as escorts, one in front and one behind. The group carefully walked down the stairs, trying their best not to make any sound.

Because Roy had attracted the attention of most of the zombies, the group arrived at the parking lot without incident, boarded the school bus, started it, and ignited the engine!

They weren't the only clever ones who thought of using Roy. Another teacher on campus, Kouichi Shido, rushed over with several students. After sacrificing a male student to attract the zombies' attention, they successfully boarded the bus.

"Shizuka-sensei, pick up that young man," Saeko Busujima said, coming to the side of the driver's seat.

"Okay!"

Shizuka Marikawa replied, feeling a pang of guilt for using the other party to attract zombies.

A blond-haired male student brought on by Kouichi Shido angrily said, "Hey, what are you kidding about! Look, who exactly are we supposed to be saving?"

Everyone followed his gaze.

The black-haired young man was like a god of slaughter descended. The hundreds of zombies around him couldn't even get close. Each swing of his long sword precisely harvested a head.

Cold, cruel, merciless!

At this rate, they had no doubt that the black-haired young man would kill every zombie on campus.

Saeko Busujima said, "Humans have stamina limits, Shizuka-sensei!"

Shizuka Marikawa nodded, gripped the steering wheel, and stomped on the accelerator. The bus shot out like an arrow from a bow, ramming into several zombies in front of Roy.

Saeko Busujima yelled, "Hurry and get on!"

A hint of surprise flashed in the depths of Roy's eyes. These people used him to attract zombies and escaped, and he wasn't unaware of it, but they actually came back to pick him up. It genuinely surprised him, and his stamina was almost depleted anyway.

"Zombie Kills: Three hundred forty-eight!"
