Chapter 5 - The Girl Next Door

The next three years until my 11th birthday were spent mostly learning about myself and my new abilities. My dad arranged tutors for me, using the family connections for my abilities, and my mum tutored me in magical history along with her apprentice, Greta.

One day I went out with mum to Greta's house, her parents wanted to go over something with mum, so Greta showed me around the muggle town they lived in and we overheard a commotion, a few guys were harassing this little girl for being a 'freak'. Well, I had an idea what was going on with that one word, so I stepped in before anything really bad happened, also before Greta could stop me.

"Hey, morons, you get off on bulling a little girl? I bet you feel like big strong men doing so. You're daddies must be so proud, 'how many little girls did you beat up today son?', LOSERS!!" Well, that set them off real good, as they turned their attention to me and started chasing me. While Greta went to take care of the little girl.

I led them on a bit of a chase, before slipping away with some parslemagics. You see, if it's not with a wand, it's not tracked. If it's not in a muggleborn home, it's not tracked, and if its not tracked, its allowed. Thanks cousin for teaching me parslemagics and so, so much more.

I caught back up with Greta and the scared little girl near Greta's house.

I brought myself down to her eye level and said, "Hello, I'm Benevolence, what's your name?"

"Ariana Dumbledore." She said to my surprise.

"Dumbledore, huh? Alrighty then, my Lady," She gave a slight goggle. "Shall I escort you home? We don't want those muggles to catch you again." Was my reply.

"Muggles? You're magic?" She said in surprise.

"Yes, My Lady, I am Benevolence Prince. Let's get you home, I'm sure your family is worried about you." I said as I took her arm in mine and began to jaunt down the road at her direction towards her home. With Greta behind us.

"Ariana! " A woman's voice came from inside, along with a sickly cough.

"Mum!" Ariana pulled her arm from mine, gave me a slight curtsy and then ran to her mother. "I'm sorry I worried you, but Benevolence saved me! You should have seen him, He was so brave," Greta snorted at that. "He got the muggles to leave me alone and then he walked me home and called me his lady and he was so..."

"Muggles? Ariana, be careful what you say." Her mother said to her in a muffled tone.

"Please," I interrupted, "Be at ease, I am Benevolence Prince, I am a mage myself."

"Oh, thank you for saving Ariana, she can be so unconcerned with her own safety, I swear she will go straight to Gryffindor, the hat needen't touch her head at all." She said while shaking her head.

"I'm sure she will go wherever most suits her needs at sorting, be that encouragement to bravery, a need for strong friends, ambitious political planning, or the deepest desire to learn and create, the hat will send her where she needs the most, not where she reflects the most. Of this I am sure." Was my reply, to the surprise of both Lady Dumbledore and Greta.

"Well, you seem to know a lot for a runt that hasn't gotten his letter yet. Come on Benny, Let's get back to my parents place, you need to go home soon." Came Greta.

"Until we meet again, my lady Ariana." I said with a bow. "Pleasure to meet you Lady Dumbledore." I gave her a slight bow as well. Then I turned and followed Greta back to her place, leaving a happy and healthy little girl behind who squealed in delight as I left.

Later I went back home with mum, and was ruminating about the changes made today. I had not intended to save her specifically, and I hope this doesn't mess up the timeline too badly... OH CRUD ALBUS AND GELLERT!

It was a few weeks later that we got a knock on the wards, someone was coming over uninvited, they meant no harm, but there was 5 of them.

"Dad, there's someone at the wards!" I called out to him.

"Your mother isn't home, if they had any ill intent, they wouldn't be allowed entry, but keep your wits about you, we'll go together."

I gave him a nod and we both went out to look at who it could be. It was the Dumbledore's.

The father, Lord Dumbledore gave a slight bow and began with, "Greetings neighbor. We've just moved into Godric's' Hollow, up the road and sensed another magical dwelling, I am Lord Dumbledore, but you may call me Percival, we came to introduce our-" Before he could finish, I was assaulted by a little blonde bullet screaming "BENNY!" And knocking me to the ground.

"It would seem you know my daughter." Came a firm male voice.

"Oh," Lady Dumbledore started, then coughed roughly, "He's the young man who saved Ariana a few weeks ago, Benevolence was it?" She said with a smile. "She hasn't stopped talking about her knight." Ariana was hugging me something fierce, and then blushed deeply into my chest.

"My Lady, I'm glad to see you as well, but perhaps you'll allow me a moment to greet your parents properly?" I said to the blonde bullet who then blushed again and slowly retreated to her mother.

I got up, dusted myself off with a bit of wandless magic out of habit and gave a slight bow to the Dumbledores, "Lord and Lady Dumbledore, a pleasure, I am Benevolence Prince, this is my father, Salazar Prince, my mother is working currently, but we can visit again later for introductions. Please, do come in, I'll put on some tea."

The Lord and Lady looked at me with an awe that I couldn't place, but then Percival said, "Perhaps another time, Thank you for saving Ariana, young man. We are most grateful, and on that note we, " Gesturing to himself and his wife, " would like to speak to your parents together sometime, feel free to drop in whenever, we'll be doing naught but unpacking for the next week or so."

Dad chimed in with, "Yes, I can see that might be a good idea, I'm sure the kids will be spending quite a bit of time together with you living nearby. Please call me Sal, Betty, my wife and I shall come by tomorrow at noon. The kids can play in the yard here, if you have no objections, the entire field up to the tree line is warded for flying, Ben here knows how to set it all up."

"Sounds marvelous, see you and your wife tomorrow at noon then. Good day. Come along kids, you can do proper introductions tomorrow." Said Lady Dumbledore, who never gave her name, even if I remember it as Kendra.

Tomorrow, came, and it was weird. Albus knew something and looked at me with near hatred. Abe was as clueless as I was. Ariana was frolicking about the large meadow, enjoying the outside more than anything, such a free and happy soul.

Albus, took charge, as soon as he arrived. demanded I set up whatever it was and then waited impatiently for me to do such. Abe, on the other hand chastised his brother, said this was my home not theirs, then he apologized to me said his brother was an arse, and together we enjoyed Albus' brooding while we watching Ariana play.

Like this about an hour passed and our parents came into the wards, I turned to our group and told them playtime was over, our parents had arrived.

"How do you know that?" Demanded Albus.

"I felt the wards ping, welcoming home my parents and 2 others that match your parents magical signature."

"Our mother is a squib, she has no magical signature. You're lying." Was he reply.

"You are wrong." I told him plainly.

"She really is a squib." Came Abe from the side.

"Yes, however that doesn't mean she has no magic, she simply has less than enough to use conventional magic. She can still see magic, she can likely feel magic as well, as to how much she can perform, who knows, she would need to test that out. I doubt it's much, if she has always been convinced she can't do magic, thus she likely never performed much during her 7 years of flux. " I stated with assurance of my words.

"How can you possibly know all that? You're what, 6? Once more, you lie." Came Albus again, so sure of himself.

"Because I'm a squib as well, I have lived it." My father chimed in. "But magic is strange in such ways that we don't understand everything. We must stay diligent and keep our minds open to the possibilities of more, and constantly strive for better. Only then can we discover something new."

Dumbfounded, Albus left in a huff. "I'm sorry about my son," Said Percival. "He has been troubled by what those muggles almost did. He can't seem to get past the 'what if' of it all, and accept that his sister is safe. I worry for him."

"It will all turn out as it should be, truly." I said.

Like this, the years passed slowly, I grew closer to Abe, and Ariana, Lord and Lady Dumbledore, and several cousins and uncles and aunts. But Albus never really liked me, and I didn't attempt to persuade him otherwise. At some point Gellert started visiting each summer, and those two got along really well. Knowing what I know, I was worried, but there isn't anything I can really do about it. I'm not even at Hogwarts yet.
