I woke up two days later in the hospital. Qingxue was sleeping by my side and Ruofei was leaning against the wall.
I try to get up but immediately hiss in pain. I give up the idea of getting up and look at Ruofei who is visibly tired.
"You're awake..." Ruofei says, yawning. He looks at Qingxue and smiles. "It's good to have trustworthy friends. Reminds me of Wenli." "The secret you were talking about..."
"...was the fact that you were Wenli's friend. He told me about you before but never mentioned your Chinese name. I would have never guessed that Jeremy is you."
"I am sure you aren't the only one," I reply, smiling. "Not many people know about this identity."
"Also, I am really surprised that you managed to hide the fact that you're an omega. We are more similar than you think."
"So...you know now." He closely watches my face and smiles. "If you're worried that I will tell her, I won't. I am sure you have your reasons why you didn't tell her and I respect that."
I look at him, surprised. I thought that he would tell her no matter how much I ask him not to but it looks like I am mistaken. "Thank you."
"In return, I would like us to become friends. I want to get to know the person who made my soulmate talk about him for hours." He said and winked. I burst out laughing and at that moment, Qingxue woke up.
"Morning," I say and hug her. She immediately pushes my hands off her and holds them, checking if I am injured anywhere.
"I am alright, Xue." She finally looks at my face and starts crying. "H-how could you? You promised to stop, remember?"
Ruofei's face turns blank and Qingxue continues sobbing. "I am still alive, aren't I? You don't need to be worried anymore. Come here."
I open my hand and she wipes off her tears. I gently hug her and this time, she doesn't push away. She glances at Ruofei and notices his expression. She then looks at me, as if asking 'Who will tell him?'.
I slowly nod and turn around to face Ruofei, still holding Qingxue in a hug. "Hey, Ruofei?" "Hmm?" "I...I need to tell you something."
Qingxue looks at me and mouths 'Are you sure?' and I nod. "The reason I fainted before..." I start talking and hold Qingxue's hand tightly. Ruofei's face turns serious.
"...was because of taking suppressants in higher doses." I finish my sentence and impatiently wait for his reaction.
He stays silent for a few seconds only to burst out cursing. "The fuck Zhirui? Why the fuck would you do that? Who is the reason you did this!? Wait...."
I look at him, trying to figure out what he is thinking about. He walks towards me and sits on the bed. "...Is it because of my sister?"
I look at Qingxue as if trying to see hidden support in her eyes. She smiles at me and nods. "Yes...it is because of her."
His eyes widen slightly but otherwise his expression doesn't change. "So...you ended up in a coma for two days and it's because of my sister?"
"You could say it like that..." "And you risked your life just because of her!?" "Yeah..." He frowns and leans closer to me, only to pinch my cheek. "Auch! What was that for!?"
"For choosing my sister over your health. Never do that again, understood?" "Yes, sir."
He chuckles at my words and smiles.
"Important question. When are you planning to tell her?" "On her birthday." Qingxue looks at me in surprise. "That's like in two weeks, Zhirui. Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I already made up my mind. No one can change my decision." Ruofei smiles and pats my head. "That's my brother-in-law." My eyes widen from the shock. "Why are you calling me like that?"
"After finding out that you like my sister, I kept my eyes on you. I didn't notice any kind of lying and I can see that your feelings towards her are genuine. But are you sure?"
"About what?" "About choosing my sister as your life partner. If you aren't sure, don't rush. I can introduce you to someone." Ruofei answers and winks. Qingxue teasingly slaps him on the shoulder and I smile.
"I am lucky to have you. Thank you, for staying by my side." I say, tears sliding down my cheeks. They both smile and Qingxue wipes my tears.
"I think you should take some days off. You need to rest." Ruofei says and grins as he sees the doctor walking through the door.
"Exactly my words, young man." The doctor smiles and looks at me. "We can send you back home in about an hour. Your heat is coming and you can't suppress it this time."
"I understand, doctor." The doctor smiles even wider and passes me a bottle of pills. I look at him, surprised.
"You are slowly becoming immune to the suppressants since you take them really often so I will give you these. They are similar to the ones you usually take but do not have any side effects."
Qingxue looks at me excitedly and Ruofei sighs in relive. I thank the doctor and turn to them. "See? Everything is getting better. Soon, I might even stop taking them completely thanks to these new ones."
"I hope so," Ruofei says and nods in approval after looking at the pills. "Don't take the ones you used to. They can only do more harm."
"No problem. Do you want me to sign a contract as well?" "Could you do it?" Qingxue looks at Ruofei in pure shock. "You know Zhirui was joking, right?"
Ruofei's smile fades as he hears the words. He looks at me, shocked. "You...were joking?" I nod with a serious face and then, burst out laughing. "You believed it?"
"Of course." "Wow, you really are a workaholic." I say and smile as he pouts. "Not that I was teasing you or something."
"You sure were." He says and smiles. "I am glad we became friends, Zhirui." "I am glad too," I answer, smiling back.
