Chapter 2 - TOP OF MY CLASS(ATLEAST I USED TO BE)

Aurora had finished doing her work, and she walked out of her office to see her daughter already lying in her bed.

She walked to her daughter's bed and sat at the edge, smiling at her. The daughter, who had trouble sleeping, looked at her mother and smiled back.

"Mommy, I can't sleep. Can you tell me a story?" the girl asked, her eyes filled with anticipation. "Maybe even continue your story?"

Aurora nodded, "Okay, I'll continue, but promise you'll sleep." Aurora said while playfully lecturing her daughter, who giggled and nodded with excitement.

"Now… Where were we…"

I got out of bed, my hair disheveled. I walked to the bathroom, washing my face and teeth, before taking a bath, then putting on my clothes.

They were normal clothes, ones that you would usually find in clothing stores, yet when I looked in the mirror, they looked very fashionable.

I combed my hair before putting on perfume and leaving for school, it was like the usual, parents ignoring me, only focusing on how I look, and how my grades are.

I arrived at school, the usual sight meeting me; boys staring, girls whispering, they have no lives, so they ruin others' lives, typical…

I walked and weaved through the crowds of students, arriving in my class and sitting in my seat.

The new nerd, Elliot, is sitting beside me, to my left, reading a chemistry book.

Such a nerdy move, playing some kids' game all night and studying just before the test, such idiocy will be his downfall.

"Are you an idiot? I bet you played some kids' game like Craftmine all night but never studied." I sighed. I felt second-hand disappointment for his parents. His face turned to me, he immediately scowled, and he began yelling.

I bet he would defend the thing that I insulted by talking about how it ISN'T what I just said.

"Craftmine is NOT a kids' game!! It is a game that everyone can play! It has zombies and swords!" Elliot protested, trying to defend his favorite game.

Then he will go on a ramble on how if it WERE what I said, then it would be different in some way.

"If it were a kids' game, then the only mode would be creative and there wouldn't be monsters in it!!!" he yelled once again. He was incredibly predictable.

Then he will start bragging about some achievement that sounds impressive but isn't when you think about it.

"I am better than you, okay?! Once I was able to solve a high school-level equation when I was in middle school!" He bragged desperately, trying to show dominance.

I kept my face cold, although in my head I was laughing my face off about how gullible and predictable this guy is.

"You are lucky, you get friends easily…" Elliot said, sounding depressed, and that shocked me, EXTREMELY, for the first time I have seen someone vulnerable.

I take it back, his mood swings are unpredictable, VERY unpredictable.

"Tsk, whatever." I rolled my eyes, looking away. Deep down, his tone had struck something, I can't tell what it is, but anyway, that doesn't change the fact that he is pathetic.

The teacher walked in, handing us tests without saying anything. It was the chemistry teacher.

As soon as I got the test, I began to answer question after question; they were easy, so I finished before everyone else(as usual).

I looked to my left, and Elliot was still stuck in the test. I smirked and chuckled, such an idiot. If he hadn't played that game, he wouldn't have been stuck.

At lunch, I walked to the scoreboard, expecting the usual: my name written at the top, alongside the number 1.

I looked at that board, and I saw it. My name: Aurora Lane, 99%.

That was my usual score, but then I saw it, my eyes widened, for the first time… I was number 2…

Above my name was: Elliot Reid, 100%.

This can't be true! That NERD!! Has bested me?! For the first time ever… I am number two.

My parents will KILL me… I will then be known as a girl who only has looks and not smarts, then I'll live a life as a… No… I'm overreacting… Am I???

I walked to the cafeteria, and every student was talking about how someone had finally become number one, someone other than me…

After lunch, it was physics class. The teacher walked in and announced something, "Class? Today we have a group project, so I have a lottery and every two students who are chosen will have to work together." The teacher said while grabbing papers and calling out names.

Then, I heard my name, "Aurora Lane with…" The whole class fell to silence, some waiting nervously, others with anticipation. The teacher grabbed a paper once again and yelled, "… Elliot Reid!"

WHAT?!?!…
