Chapter 102 - Threats?

Of course, Su Han did not disappoint the residents around him. He took the lead, stepping to the front of the group.

But this man went past the three people standing at the front of the line—Ling Jiang, Lao Gao, and Huang Jinghe—and deliberately spoke to Lan Jin, who was trailing behind and hadn't even gotten off the kayak yet.

"Hello. We just had a meeting yesterday. You must remember me. I am Su Han, the building leader of Building 12. I'm surprised you have kayaks at your place. We all live in the same building. I'm sure you don't want to see everyone starve here. So I want to speak for the residents and ask to borrow your kayaks for a while."

What Su Han said was "borrow for a while," but he said it only to Lan Jin, as if trying to pressure her into lending them the kayaks. After all, his words represented the entire building's residents.

But how did he think Lan Jin could speak for the other three people?

Or maybe he just thought her face looked easy to talk to, and that she might say something in their favor. Besides, their relationship didn't seem that close. Where did he get his confidence?

Lan Jin didn't understand Su Han's thinking, but she didn't like the man. She hadn't planned to reply, but if she stayed silent, they might really think she was easy to push around. So she asked, "Those three are much closer to you. Why didn't you ask them? Why did you skip over them and come ask me if we can lend the kayaks? Do you think I'm the easiest one to bully? Or maybe the easiest to talk to among us four?"

Lan Jin's words froze Su Han on the spot. Saying something like that in front of so many people was quite rude.

While she spoke, her hands didn't stop moving. She strapped her backpack properly, then grabbed a large bag in each hand and turned to head upstairs.

Lao Gao wanted to help carry things, but he didn't expect Lan Jin to be so strong. That was fine—he had nothing to carry and could better guard the two kayaks and the people eyeing their supplies.

But not only were the supplies making people jealous, Lan Jin's words were uncomfortable to hear. Naturally, no one wanted to let them leave easily.

"What's wrong with you four? You're so selfish. We all live in the same building. Do you want to see us starve?"

"Yeah. You're not keeping the kayaks forever. Can't you just lend them for a bit?"

"We're all neighbors. Do you have to be so heartless?"

"I'm warning you—we're better off staying inside. You've got food at home already. If something happens, don't blame us for being cruel."

That was a clear threat.

Ling Jiang's temper flared immediately. She had already planned to lend the kayaks when they left, but after hearing that, even she didn't want to lend them anymore. Besides, someone asking nicely was one thing, but forcing her and threatening her to lend them was something else entirely.

Ling Jiang was not the kind of person who gave in to threats. No matter what, she would not let the kayaks go out today. But before Ling Jiang's anger could fully explode, Lan Jin moved faster. She dropped the two big bags, then pulled a huge watermelon knife from her backpack, which was actually from her space.

She waved the massive blade around wildly at the crowd without saying a word.

That was enough.

The residents immediately gave way, making a path without needing any more words. People tend to bully those who seem weak. Even though many wore expressions of dissatisfaction, when it came to actually stepping forward, no one did.

With the path cleared, the four women successfully went upstairs.

When they reached the 30th floor, Lao Gao said, "Let's put the supplies at my place first. I fixed my door so no one can get in if we're not home. We'll be quick."

"Okay."

The four went straight to Lao Gao's home. After putting the supplies inside and closing the door, Lao Gao fiddled with the lock for a while, then took out a knife and carried it with them as they headed downstairs.

Ling Jiang asked curiously, "What were you doing just now?"

"I electrified the door. If someone tries to pick the lock, it will immediately release a strong electric shock that can stun or even kill. If they just knock, a smaller shock will keep them away. But honestly, I haven't tested it, so I don't know exactly how it works," Lao Gao explained.

Huang Jinghe's eyes lit up. "Your door is that advanced? Where did you buy it?"

"Hah, I modified it myself. No way you'd find this kind of door outside."

At last, Lan Jin started to understand what Ling Jiang meant earlier. Besides serious study, Lao Gao really could do a bit of everything. Having the supplies at his place was definitely reassuring.

...

Though the four had gone upstairs, the angry residents were still stuck on the third floor, not leaving.

They were still arguing among themselves. No one expected the four women to return quietly and sneak downstairs again, which shocked the residents.

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, the four calmly paddled out of the neighborhood again.

After this, the crowd grew even more restless.

"Brother Su, they must have found a lot of supplies. How can they be so selfish? What's wrong with lending the kayaks for a bit? Should we just break into their place? They've got so much food. If they won't share, we'll just take it."

"Yeah, when they went up just now, they probably only dropped off some stuff. But we don't know where. We can't just break into all four homes."

At this, a woman from unit 3204 said, "The supplies are in 3301, that's the home of the guy with the beard. I was watching them carefully. I'm sure I'm not wrong."

As for Lao Gao's electric lock, no one paid it any mind. Who has power now? Even if they had a battery, they didn't think it would be enough to kill anyone.

Knowing where the supplies were made everyone even more restless.

But Su Han didn't fully agree with the idea of breaking in.

"The four of them obviously have some skills. If we make enemies of them, I don't want trouble. If we break their door, the relationship will definitely get bad. Even if we get the kayaks, the supplies won't last us long. It's not worth it."

"But these people are too selfish. They won't even lend the kayaks. Do they want us to starve inside the building?" said an older man.
