Chapter 10 - A Body

Xavier moved silently in the dungeon, making no sound while gazing at his surroundings. He was breathless and trying to notice an exit, but he couldn't see any so far. He also hadn't seen any dungeon monsters either.

"They must be far ahead." He thought, not having any other solution.

The goddess had said that Carragis was the dungeon where F- ranks who awakened in Neoterra were banished. That meant that they died there with their weak ability, no training, and no hope. They couldn't have survived. But he was different. He had a system like he had read in webnovels.

And although it wasn't as interesting or overpowered as the ones he had read, it was better than nothing. The gauntlets he wore were pulsing with energy and he was itching to use them.

"Maybe I should try it on a boulder." He thought, "Let's see how efficient this weapon is."

He noticed a small boulder that reached up to his chest and decided to use it as his target. He took a stance, positioned himself well, strengthened his right hand and he dashed forward. He drove the gauntlet-covered fist into the boulder with tremendous force.

With a sharp crack, his fist made contact with the boulder, and the huge rock crumbled under the pressure. Xavier gave a satisfied sigh as the rock crumbled and broke into tiny pieces.

"At least it's better than nothing." He thought.

He immediately began to move further into the dungeon. His experiment was over. It wasn't the ideal strength he wanted but it was better than nothing. He already knew that the more kills he had, the more experience would follow, and just maybe his battle experience would help him to be proficient in using any weapon well.

The dungeon was echoing, screeching sound being heard, and scurrying of small, insects and animals everywhere. Xavier clicked his teeth in disgust. Carragis gave him the creeps, but there was nothing he could do but find an exit and escape from this wretched hole.

But a thought sprang into his head that made him stop. Was Carragis endless like a labyrinthine? Was there no exit or escape hole? Will she be trapped forever?

He shook his head at the thoughts and immediately began to move again. The passage he was on had narrowed into a small bridge that he had to pass. He did that effortlessly and began to move again.

That was when he saw it. It was a body just the first one he saw, the first one that brought him to this mess. He stepped forward and closer to it. The body was decomposed, gray, and sunken. Eyes gone, probably eaten or removed. Tufts of snowy white hair around its head. It was a male.

His stomach was open, insects crawling over it. He could see the intestines, the liver, the pancreas, and the heart. The heart was shrivelled, black in colour, and spewing a yellow-like substance.

There was no doubt about it. This man had been dead for years, maybe centuries. So what the goddess said about humans vanishing here was true. At first, he didn't want to believe it. He thought that maybe he was the first or something. But it looked like what that bitch of a goddess was saying was true.

They were truly evil. Xavier swallowed his anger, the gauntlets glowing with his emotions fluctuating. He truly wanted to kill them but he wasn't strong enough yet.

He bent down to the body, the overwhelming stench engulfing his nose and nearly made him throw up. That was when he noticed it. Claw marks across his chest and an unmistakable, gruesome bite below his collarbone.

He frowned in thought. "Something attacked this man." He muttered. That meant that his thoughts of monsters were true, and judging by the claw marks and the savage bite, it was a ferocious one.

Suddenly, a drop of liquid fell from the roof onto his clothes. He stiffened, his heart froze. He slowly moved his eye to his shoulder. The liquid was slimy, smelling, and oozing slowly down his shoulder.

"Saliva." He whispered, eyes narrowing. Then a low growl shattered his mind in an instant. He felt the air become still. He heard it. The growl was coming from above.

"Don't move!" He screamed in his mind. "Don't look up!"

But he did. He couldn't help it. He didn't want to deny that there was something there. He looked up and what he saw nearly made him faint.

Perched on the roof like it was Spiderman, there was a humanoid creature. White as snow, bald, rabid red eyes, and savage serrated fangs for teeth protruding out of his mouth. It gazed at him above, unblinking, staring at him like prey.

A low growl erupted from his chest making Xavier flinch. Time stood still. Then the creature's face twisted into a sadistic smile that nearly made him scream.

He knew it. This creature had already decided him as his next meal.

"Oh, man." He muttered, staring at the creature. "I'm in trouble. "
