The morning after Fisk's death, Hell's Kitchen smelled different.Or maybe it was me.
The air outside the safehouse was still thick with exhaust and wet concrete, but without the constant hum of Fisk's shadow hanging over every corner, it felt… off. Quieter. But not safer.
Daredevil didn't say much over breakfast—just black coffee for him, toast for me. Ghostline was gone before the sun came up, muttering something about "covering tracks."
When Matt finally spoke, it wasn't what I expected."You need to leave," he said flatly.
I stared at him over the rim of my mug. "What?"
"You've done enough damage here. And… enough good. But you're not going to get either if you stay. People will come looking. Not just Fisk's people. Police, other gangs, maybe even some of my… allies."
"You're saying I'm a liability?"
"I'm saying you're a fifteen-year-old who's been in more fights in two months than most people see in a lifetime. Go be a kid. Before you forget how."
The words hit harder than I wanted to admit. I hadn't been "a kid" for a while now, even before all this system nonsense. But the thought of staying here, walking past that marble building again, maybe seeing the stain where Fisk fell… yeah. I couldn't do it.
So I packed.
Two hours later, I was on a bus headed north, a backpack at my feet, Daredevil's number written on a scrap of paper in my pocket. The safehouse and Hell's Kitchen shrank in the window until the city skyline was just a jagged shadow in the distance.
With Matt's help, I was able to get a small house—not much, but enough—here in Queens.
Maybe I should go to school. If I remember correctly, there was the one Spider-Man went to… what was it called? Oh, right—Midtown High.
Settling into my new house and taking a shower, I decided to check my status.
