Okinawa. An island with a population of over a hundred thousand people living in harmony. Every neighbor was their neighbours keeper. No crimes or deaths seem to plague this place like it did the rest of the world.
The only plague in the lives of the citizens, all lived on a small slope to themselves. Their estate was a vast forest with a walled off mansion on the slope in the centre.
The main gates of the mansion opened. A red car zipped through. Its engine sang as it traversed the brick roads of the slope to the main road. It veered into traffic. The other cars swerved away.
The driver stepped on the gas. "Damn I love this car. Wanna take it for a spin Nagisa?"
"You said this was uncle's car before you married him." She stared out the window. "I wouldn't want to ruin it, aunt Sayuri." The car drives down the middle of the road.
"Come on, liven up." She maneuvered between cars as they drove through town. It was mostly a residential area. Civilians panicked and hopped walls when they heard the roar of the red and black AMW I8 swerving round the corner. "You need to be in high spirits when dealing with our clients." They drifted into a construction site. The workers ran out the way. The car stopped. A dust cloud in its wake. They exited the vehicle. Pipe and pole in hand.
A man rushed towards them. "Are you crazy!? What the hell are you doing driving in here like that?! You could have killed someone!"
She towered over him. "Huh?! You must be the new guy. Haven't you seen the red tips of my hair or my hight? Otherwise you must be suicidal."
"That's just Island superstition." He shrugged.
She leaned in. "Oh really?" Her eyes glowed crimson. He stumbled backwards.
Nagisa tossed him. "You're annoying me." He crashed into some barrels.
"Where's Shimamura." The workers looked away. Their eyes everywhere but the incomplete two storey house. "Oh for God's sake at least don't make it that easy!" She face palmed. "Where are you Shimamura!?" Her voice echoed. "Come on out Shimamura! I know you're here." No response. A vain popped in her forehead. She picked up a length of steel and grit her teeth. "This mother fucker." She propelled the steel. It penetrated three pillars in a row. Chunks of rocks scattered. A telephone pole fell on behind the construction site into another main road. A few blocks lost power. The men stared. Jaws dropped and trembling.
A man marched out the building. A scowl on his face. "What the hell do you think you're doing, you crazy b-" The wall behind him explodes. Everyone stared. A worker points at him. He touched his ear and flinched. His hand warm and moist in red. He trembled staring at Nagisa who had her arm aimed at him.
"Finish that sentence and it'll be your last." She and Sayuri stalked towards him.
The ass?! What the pad is she eating? That throw was almost as strong as mine.
She stared at him. "Oh Shimamura, you're overdue on this month's payment but you've started construction on this new project, bought your wife that new jewellery set online and you can still buy those cigars you love so much." Her eyes glowed. "Yet I don't see my money Shimamura! Where is my money?!"
He gulped then glared. "I won't be extorted by you low life thugs anymore! I'm not afraid of you or your family. And it's not just me. The people are sick of you too. And one day we'll run you off our island."
"I don't give a fuck, where's my money?!" She punched.
He tumbled in a gust. Nagisa held her fist. "Lieutenant Sayuri. You already know that he's not the type to be intimidated by assault. Even if it does work, we won't get the results we want. You already know that, so why are you acting so impulsive?"
She walked towards him. "Because I heard that his son is picking on my nephew." Nagisa flinched. "Now tell me Future Lieutenant Nagisa, why did you hide this from the clan?" She stooped down beside him. "And why shouldn't I kill this ungrateful shit right now?!" Her pipe at his face.
"I have it handled."
"Handled? The fact that I've heard about it means that you clearly don't. I should just waste him right now." Her steel pipe was engulfed in aura.
"It doesn't need to go that far."
"What kind of fuckry are you saying? They knew the rules. Never touch our men. Have the mutilated corpses we've left in the town square over the years not been a clear reminder!?"
"You think I don't know that?! You think I don't want to break their bones and pull their teeth out?! You think I don't want to see those mother fuckers with bamboo growing through their bodies? That I don't want them dead?! Just one whisper to mother and Okinawa will be leveled within a day!"
"Then why aren't they?!"
"Because he wouldn't want that! Everytime I'm going to end it he stops me. He's usually a coward but when it's to stop me, he runs right in like some hero."
She sighed. "The men of our clan have always been too considerate of the sheep." She stands. "Alright let's go." They walked to to car. The men sighed. The women turned and stomped their foot. The ground shuddered. A small wave hit the building. It trembled and fell to rubble. "Looks like your project's been set back by an unforeseen accident. Oh where oh where are you going to get the money from to complete it I wonder?" The engine revved and the car swerved out the gates. Nagisa stared at her. "What?"
"I would say that we're idiots for demolishing his project and that it's going to take even longer to get our money now, but I know you wouldn't do this without good reason."
"Come on, it wasn't that obvious." Nagisa blinks. "Okay yeah it was but that don't matter. Didn't you hear that, that bastard Shimamura is such an easy lay that some man trap snagged him and is taking him for a patsy?"
"Let me guess. He's giving her money and that's why he can't pay his debt."
"If only it was just that. Shimamura had a failed reputation as a contractor in Japan then ran away to Okinawa to get a fresh start and we of course gave him a loan. We even pulled some strings in the shadows to make sure his business thrived. It wasn't a loss for us cause honestly the jackass does good work for just an average homosapien. His competence build trust in our partners who we sent his way in secret, not to mention we'd be guaranteed our payments. The problem was he was too obsessed with status. Once it started looking up for him, he bought a car, bigger house, had servants, expensive clothes and all that shit. He completely forgot about his debt to us and missed a payment. Naturally we threatened him and tripled the interest. He reluctantly made his payments on time after that in small amounts thinking he's screwing us over. The idiot doesn't realize that total he owes increases by 90% each year.
"Could you get to the point? School is not that far away."
"I'm getting there. Anyway his last completed project sold for fifty million yen. After deducting expenses for the project, he had thirty million profit. Now instead of paying us a significant amount and cutting down his debt, he give millions to the bitch and squandered the rest. She's probably the one instigating him to turn the islanders against us because she wants us off his ass so she can milk him dry. Can you believe that idiot had someone on the other end of his phone recording us? That's why I knocked out the signal tower."
"Good foresight. Not as good as mother's though." She exits the car
"Stop screwing with me and get yourself a cute boy." The car swerved off.
As she walked through the school gates, everyone looked away. Whispers buzzed all around her.
Classes had begun. She sits by the window. The teacher and students were engaged in discussion. "Class pay attention. If you're ignorant of your history, then you'll fail the future." Said the teacher.
"Can't we learn about something other than the Edo period, Sensei?" Said a female student. The class bleated on with her.
"Hmm. Well we have covered most of the syllabus this semester. Any ideas on good topics to discuss?"
"How about some western history?"
"The west huh? Sure."
A boy stands. "Sensei, can we learn about this?" He holds a necklace. "I got it from a foreigner when I helped her. Its not some kind of curse is it?"
"Its a crucifix. A sign of the Christian faith." He took it from the student. "Their faith is based upon a legendary Onmyōji, who claimed to be the god of heaven in demigod form. He performed miraculous acts such as solved world hunger, exorcism, a cure for all diseases, transmutation, elemental mastery, bestow blessings and of course, necromancy."
Why does it sound like he's talking about some overpowered anime character??? Nagisa arched a brow. Everyone stopped and stared. Some gulped daring not to move a muscle in fear of a violent outburst. Silence engulfed the room. She turned her head back to the window.
Everyone sighed in relief.
"Ehemm," The teacher cleared his throat. "The Onmyōji taught above all, love towards his fellow man, The Golden Rule and that they shouldn't be afraid of the coming of his kingdom. Which would descend with spiritual fire to punish the wicked, rich and corrupted. That only the poor and virtues could get into his kingdom and be saved. But of course this didn't set too well with some people and he was betrayed then publicly executed by the vote of his own followers. Death by crucifixion. But even as he hung on the cross, he wouldn't die until he was speared in the abdomen by a Roman soldier. This soldier was known throughout history as," he held out his phone. A pic of a Roman soldier draped in red holding a spear that pierced into a man on a cross. "Longinus."
Nagisa glanced at the picture. Everyone was still once more. She approached. Her eraser fell. It echoed like drums. The bell rang and she left. Everyone sighed.
Longinus huh? Sounds cool. I wonder what my brother is doing now? Her glowing eyes wondered. She grit her teeth and took off up stairs.
Kai was being beat down by three guys. In a heartbeat, she was behind them. Her hands aimed at on of their throats. You die today!
"No Nagisa. Don't, don't do this, please." He tackled her.
She hesitated. Why damnit?! Why can't I just ignore him and do what I want?! She slid him to the sides. "Tch. Shut up! If you weren't so useless, I wouldn't have to do this!" She punched.
A boy was sent flying. He gasped for air and clenched his stomach.
"Take this!" Another boy attacked from behind. She caught his fist.
"Amateur." She tossed him down the hall.
"Stupid bitch! You think you're something special because you're a Yamaguchi?!" Said the leader for the group of boys. A wooden sword in hand. He swung. It broke on the back of her head.
She glared at him. "What kind of man hits a girl...with a measly stick? You could have at least used a piece of steel!" He stumbled back. "And no, I don't think I'm special. I know I am. I'm the Beast at the Beach!!" She kicked him.
Hmmm, no that sounded lame. I need to find another catch phrase.
"And who the fuck are you calling a bitch?!" He tumbled and grabbed his stomach. It burned and ached. His insides thrashed around his clenched stomach. The pain whelmed up inside and rushed out his mouth in brown. "I guess your mouth's always full of shit." She stepped on his face. She glared at her brother. "And you. You're the king of trash. I'm sick of fighting your battles. Stand up for yourself and stop getting bullied by these third-rate punks."
"Nagisa, you shouldn't have fought them like I asked you. You only made things worse. You could have gotten in trouble, hurt them badly or hurt yourself."
"Like they can hurt me, no man can. I found that out when I was six. And if you're going to complain I could always tell the rest of the clan and let them handle it." He trembled. "Pathetic. Besides I held back all my strength, so they'll live."
"You should still be careful. Shinichi from the Disciplinary Committee is still on your case."
Shinichi! Why do I always feel strange whenever I hear his name? Whatever, he's nothing but a nuisance... pleasant to stare at from a far nuisance. "Please. That moron couldn't catch the school building-"
"What was that, you numb skull of a brawler maniac?" He stood beside her.
"Shi-Shin Shinichi?!!" She shrieked.
"Picking fights again because of your brother complex?" He glared.
She gave a sheepish smile. Not this shit again! Everytime he comes around my gut feels like there's snakes wiggling around inside and it's hard to breathe. What kinda voodoo is this bastard using?! He held a stun rod. Shit! Not that thing. That's the only thing that a man can hurt me with. This fucker's been using it on me since I came to this school. I can't even say fuck without this bastard being on my ass.
"I guess I have to discipline you again."
She flinched. "Noooooooooo!! I hate you! Stupid cop boy!" She ran. I'd rather loose dignity now and regret this later than deal with these feelings.
She sat in her seat on the bus. Everyone continued on their business and ignored her. She stared at girls chatting with their friends and boys. She sighed and looked away.
And of course the seat beside me is empty. What was I expecting? Some kid is probably squeezing at the back.
She smirked then glanced around. Everyone froze. She frowned. "Where's that bitch?" The students flinched. "Sensei."
He shivered. "Y-yes ma'am, I mean miss Yamaguchi?
"Where is Cho?"
"She said she felt unwell so she went to the nurse's office."
Sick my ass. She must have lied and went to see my brother.
Probably tired of me cock blocking. Whatever. I'm sure that nothing will happen. Her back glows. "Fuck!" It raged with a burning sensation. Her eyes and hair went crimson. Everyone scurried away. The bus came to a stop.
She ripped off the back of her shirt. Her bra opened. On her back was glowing black dragon tattoo. It moved and coiled around on her back. She screamed. "What the hell is this?! What's happening?! Kai!" The tattoo's glow had fade. She fell losing life in her limbs. Her eyes heavy until there was no light.
