Chapter 18 - Stalker

(Stryker will be middle-aged, not old like in the movie X-Men: First Class.)

Of course, the government, now that it knows of mutants, will never be done with mutants. There were many opinions about the mutants, but one stood out in everyone's mind: 'They are a threat.' William Stryker also deemed them as a threat, but he also saw them as an act against God. When he was off from work, he was a Christian minister. His wife, Hellan, and his son Jason went to church very often.

Right now, around a table were men of high rankings, including John Mccone, one of the only ones in the room saying that mutants could be useful. To a certain extent, Stryker agreed with him. They could be useful weapons against their own kind. Fight fire with fire. Mccone then brought up a picture of a white hair mutant. "This mutant right here can heal any injury and can regress aging." That one statement from Mccone had all the older members in the room straighten their backs, and their focus on Mccone was like he was a stripper dancing in front of them.

"How can this mutant do such a thing. What is his ability?" Negan Nesser asked. He was one of the oldest men here, but also one of the most powerful.

Mccone smiled as he explained, "This mutant is named Noah, codename Chronos, and just as his name suggests, he can control time on objects and living beings. Sadly, since the attack on the headquarters, he has disappeared, but this mutant can save so many lives. His usefulness and the usefulness of other potentially mutants could outweigh their threat if controlled."

"If I may intrude. I agree that this one mutant is very useful and should be captured alive, but that doesn't make him any less dangerous. He can control the time of a person, which means he could make anyone die within seconds if he wanted to. Make them ash. We have no idea where he is. But we can find him. I would like to lead the search for this mutant, but I would also like to have permission to use any force necessary to comprehend him besides death." Stryker advises."

Negan thought for a moment, and while he did, Mccone added some new information about this mutant. That he was but a fourteen-year-old boy and that to save his own life, he aged himself four or five years. Stryker responded by laughing that age doesn't matter if they were stronger than any weapon they had.

"Try not to damage the boy. We don't know what he needs from his body to use his abilities. If it comes down to it, then do what you have to, to capture him alive. Pick no more than ten members from any organization for this mission. I want this mutant found within a year. If you can't do that, then you will be demoted." Negan responded.

Stryker smiled, not fretting over how harsh the punishment would be because the worse the punishment is, the better the reward. "Of course, sir. Thank you for believing in me." Negan stood up as he walked out, but before he left, he said, "This meeting is adjourned.

Emma went to a medium-sized house and walked through its doors. Inside was a lovely middle-aged couple who were shocked to see a beautiful woman march into their house. Emma got to work quickly, implanting fake memories of her being their daughter, and while she did that, she also found out all about her new parents. How they weren't able to conceive children. That they kept to themselves. They both worked at a bakery they owned. They went to church every Sunday but skipped Wednesday. No one knew much about them as they didn't talk about their own lives very often. They were the perfect people that Emma could use because no one knew them very well.

Once Emma was done implanting the fake memories, she went upstairs to her new room. The room was a guest room already filled with furniture. She lay on her new bed looking up at the ceiling to the ceiling fan that moved around in circles to help circulate some air in the hot room. "Time to be a stalker, I guess." Emma remarked softly to herself.

Emma watched from the shadows for a week, watching all that Noah did. He attended church on Sunday and Wednesday. Every day in the morning, he went into a building to be taught all that he needed to for his GED exam. His father or mother would pick him up, but apparently, they were debating whether he should get his driver's license and get him his very own car. Emma would dive into the memories of both Noah's parents. She found out that Andrew was also a mutant who could see other mutants. Seeing Andrew's memories angered Emma; she wanted nothing more than to kill the filth that betrayed his own kind. She wouldn't, though, at least not yet.

Mary's mind was much more pleasant than Andrew's. She was a woman who would destroy the world if that meant her family was safe. But the most interesting thing about Mary is her brother, who visited only when Noah was born. The man worked in the military and is a Christian, much like her husband. William Stryker was similar to her husband, Andrew, in many respects, and yet they hated each other, which was the reason why Stryker never came over to visit his sister.

Although, from what Emma was reading, apparently Mary had invited Stryker over when she gave birth to her second child. She felt like her brother would come, as she was there when his wife gave birth to their son, Jason.

Mary looked forward to seeing her brother again and had asked her husband, Andrew, not to be rude to him if he did come. She wanted to fix her family relationships.

Emma decided she would act today. It was Monday morning, and she was going to the library where Noah would be waiting outside for it to open to be taught lessons that might be on his upcoming GED test.

Emma was there first. It was winter, so she wore a long, fluffy white coat. With black pants. Her long blond hair was up in a ponytail, and she sat on the bench waiting patiently.

Noah was getting dressed to leave the house to go to the library. His mother, Mary, offered to drive him there, but he declined. "I'll walk." Noah replied. Mary frowned but nodded her head in acceptance. Once Noah was done eating breakfast that his mother had made. His father, Andrew, asked, "Do you want me to drive you to the library, Noah?" Noah shook his head as he replied, "I'll walk."

Andrew sighed, "Son, I understand you're upset, but you shouldn't rebel like this. You are fourteen. It's one thing getting your GED, it's a whole other thing to learn how to drive." Noah got up from his chair and walked out of the room, but not without saying, "You can't stop me from what I want; you are only delaying the inevitable."

The walk to the library was cold. There was snow falling to the ground. It was strange because only a week ago it was hot, but a cold front showed up out of nowhere, causing the strange snow to appear. The good news was that Noah didn't have to wear his hat or sunglasses. He did still wear sunscreen; the sun was still out, it was just cold.

Noah wore a blue jacket that kept the wind and cold at bay with black sweatpants. A scarf was wrapped around his neck, covering his ear. Every step he took was heavier thanks to the snow that he stepped in. A part of himself regrets not accepting the ride from his parents, but he was upset at them. Although they gave him more freedom in some ways, in others, he was like they became more protective.

It was frustrating to go from saving the world to coming back home to a boring life. And his parents kept a closer eye on him than when he was in CIA headquarters, if that was possible. Noah just knew that his mother or father was in the car somewhere behind, watching him to make sure he was going to the library. As if they could stop me if he decided to run away from home.

Once he got to the library, his face was red from the cold, and his breathing constantly let out a breath of air he could see in the cold. But unexpectedly, he was not the only one there waiting for the library to be open. In front of him was the beautiful woman he had met on the bus. "Emma?" Noah questioned, walking over to the bench she was sitting on. In Emma's hands was a newspaper she was reading. Emma glanced up from the paper to see Noah. Her eyes widened in surprise. "Noah, right?" Emma asked. Noah smiled, happy that she remembered his name. "Yeah, Noah, I was on the bus with you. You said you were coming home to see your parents." Emma smiled, "Oh yeah, I remember you, the person who ran away from home and has come back to his parents." Noah laughed, finding the similarities funny. "Seeing that you're still here, I'm assuming seeing your parents again went well?" Noah asked. Emma nodded, "Better than expected, they seem happy to see that I'm back, and oddly enough, they're giving me personal space." Noah sighed, "You're lucky my parents don't know what personal space means."

Emma laughed, "Well, it is a bit different. I'm returning home after they sent me away. You left on your own accord. I bet they're just worried that you will leave them again." Noah shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe. I was wondering what brought you to the library?" Emma smiled, "My parents bought me a run-down car, but I don't have my license yet, and they're too lazy to teach me, so I came here to read up on some books about driving." Noah had stars in his eyes as he responded, "I'm so jealous! I've been trying to get my parents to let me learn to drive. They keep denying it, no matter what I say." Emma tilted her head to the side in a manner that Noah could not help but find cute. "Aren't you like eighteen? They should not be holding you back from driving."

Noah hesitated to respond after all, even though he was physically nineteen, his mental age was fourteen. Noah mentally shook his head. He saved the world and is smarter than most seventeen-year-olds. Mental age doesn't matter. "I'm actually nineteen, but yeah, my parents are being stubborn. I think they're worried that if I learn to drive and have my own car, then I'll be able to leave whenever I want. As if I couldn't just leave right now." Noah laughed.

Emma laughed along as she asked, "What are you doing here, then, Noah?" Noah frowned; he worried that if Emma knew that he didn't pass high school and was going for his GED, she would look at him differently. He decided that he would just tell her. If she thought of him differently, then it would be even worse if she got close to him and found out he was a mutant. "I'm here to study for my GED." Emma nodded, accepting the information easily as she replied, "Well, if you have a break from your GED learning, you should join me at my table. I have a few books there learning about driving. We can learn together."

Noah's eyes lit up as he responded, "It's a date!" Noah then instantly frowned and looked at Emma's face in concern. "I mean-" Emma shook her head and replied, "It's a date!"

It's been a while huh? Well no questions just know that I've came back from the dead.
