Julian smiled calmly, "Rusty, aren't you going to teach me what real football is? When shall we start?"
Rusty Stripe said proudly, "Why are you in such a hurry? Of course, not now! Didn't you see that we're having a training session? We're participating in the group stage of the National Talent Cup this Wednesday! Just wait, wait! I will teach you well after I've finished the training class!"
Julian looked around but couldn't find the coach present, "That's good, anyway, I have plenty of time. So go and train hard."
After speaking, Julian turned around gracefully and found a seat beside the venue to sit down.
Rusty Stripe noticed Julian's unrestrained demeanor and felt suddenly unhappy. However, since this was a training session, he didn't dare to confront him and instead returned to his teammates to conduct a 2v3 lapping exercise.
Julian observed Rusty's vigorous circling movements, which relied heavily on hand pushes and shoulder bumps to complete the tackles. Such players are quite popular in low-level and non-professional leagues with lax penalty standards. It doesn't require much skill or awareness; it's all about strength and endurance.
However, in high-level leagues, brute force alone isn't enough. Falling for a foul during a defensive confrontation can put the entire team in a precarious situation. It's essential to adapt and adjust according to the actual conditions. There's no need to boost the strength attribute to 100 points at once; it should be done flexibly and as the situation requires.
As Julian pondered, a bald, beer-bellied old man stormed onto the football field angrily. "Damn it! Shit!" he roared.
As soon as Coach Carter entered the arena, he slammed the tactical board in his hand and yelled, "Orin, that white-eyed wolf! He actually transferred to Westminster when we were about to enter the group stage. Public school! The match is the day after tomorrow, and today is the deadline for the roster! Where am I supposed to find a left-back that fits our tactical system? Will one just fall from the sky for me? Fuck! That dog... "
Julian couldn't help but chuckle internally at the colorful language. Coach Carter's scolding was peppered with profanities that were more entertaining than a French class.
The school team players, who had been training hard, were all taken aback. Westminster Public School was their longstanding rival, and Orin was a formidable player—his skills were vital to their team's success. He had to handle every aspect of the game, from fighting to defending, making breakthroughs, and long-distance passes to scoring goals himself. Orin was the high school equivalent of the "Great Saint" Gareth Bell, with a high probability of being recruited by a professional club.
Everyone knew Orin was Coach Carter's favorite, the star pupil of the Southampton Private School football team. Now, when they needed him most, he had turned his back on them and joined their arch-nemesis, Westminster College.
It was surprising that Coach Carter hadn't lost his temper entirely. "What are you all doing here?" he bellowed. "Are you here to read me this old joke?"
Julian, seated not far away, could sense the coach's anger. The players on the field didn't dare to breathe and continued training with renewed vigor. Despite their rebellious nature, they were all obedient under Coach Carter's watchful eye.
"Feeling 90 points of negative emotion from Lamar Carter, system bubbles are being generated..."
Julian raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the system's notification.
Before you do anything else, let's extract a bubble first!
It's a pity that the distance from the school players who were reprimanded was more than five meters away, or this wave would have completed the daily pick-up limit.
At this moment, a full blue bubble appeared at Coach Carter's feet.
Julian stood up calmly, walked in front of Coach Carter, and lightly tapped the blue bubble with his toes. The blue bubble burst brilliantly, turning into a dazzling beam of light that merged into Julian's body.
"The host has acquired the skill from the filled bubble: Trash Talk +1. Today's pick-up progress is 2/10."
Julian thought to himself, "This skill... It's not entirely useless, but it doesn't quite suit my charming and composed personality."
"Are you mocking me?" Coach Carter glared at Julian with a fierce expression.
Julian realized he had approached Coach Carter to pick up the bubbles. He took a step back and spoke calmly, "I finally met the legendary Coach Carter. I'm sorry for my earlier excitement. I'm an international student at this school, and my name is Julian. I'm from China, and I wish to join the school team."
Coach Carter's sharp eyes scanned Julian. "Asian? You want to join my school's team? You're not delirious, are you? Get off my field before I chase you away!"
Julian remained unfazed, meeting Coach Carter's aggressive gaze with confidence. "Coach, I'm serious. I truly love football, and I know I'm exactly what the team needs. Please, give me a chance to prove it to you."
Coach Carter's expression grew darker. Most students would have fled after his harsh words, some even crying from fear. But Julian was different; his dark eyes reflected the maturity and calmness of someone who had seen much.
"You're quite bold," Coach Carter said, his mouth forming a grim line. "But our team isn't lacking in members, and we're preparing for the national competition. There's no time for new recruits! If you're really interested, submit your application after the competition—"
Julian interrupted with confidence, "Coach, I... I can play left back."
