Chapter 2 - Chapter: 2 Once Again

The gusts of wind pierced through my bones—

the cold I felt during my parents' funeral was something I would never forget.

The sadness I felt left me powerless.

"I can't believe a child that young has already lost both his parents."

"…Who's going to take care of him now?"

Since the day they died, I rarely spoke.

I stood there, staring at my parents' gravestones, head lowered.

So many people had come to pay their respects and help bury my parents.

My tears fell again.

I didn't know what to do anymore.

Neighbors looked at me with pity and sympathy.

Then, a large hand gently patted my head.

I looked up and saw an old man with white hair—

despite his age, his posture was still strong and proud.

"…Grandpa?"

Without hesitation, I threw my arms around him.

He hugged me back and lifted me into his arms.

"From now on, Bili will live with Grandpa."

I hugged him tightly, overwhelmed with emotion, crying into his shoulder.

From that day on, I lived with my grandfather.

Among all his grandchildren, I was the one Grandpa loved the most.

He took care of me with so much attention, spoiled me, and sometimes even taught me how to use a pistol.

He used to be a soldier—

and he wanted me to grow up to be one, too.

But that happiness didn't last long.

Without me knowing, Grandpa had been suffering from an incurable illness.

I was only eight years old when it happened.

I stood beside his bed as he lay there, his body temperature fluctuating.

I wept like I did when my parents died.

Then, that same large hand touched my cheek, wiping away my tears.

Grandpa tried to comfort me.

"…Bili, I'm going to tell you a secret… a secret only a few people in the world know. But… you have to promise me, no more crying."

I fell silent.

I wiped my tears with both hands.

I could feel this was a final request—so I nodded.

"Do you know… about the 'Eyes of Death,' Bili?"

I shook my head.

I had never heard of it before.

"Everything in this world has a death—humans, animals, plants, objects, even the dead themselves still possess death.

Whatever exists… the Eyes of Death can see it."

"…Bili! Have you ever seen black smoke somewhere?"

I tried to recall.

Black smoke?

Then I remembered—the neighbor's cat.

That reddish-black mist around its body, when my eyes had turned red.

I nodded.

Grandpa smiled.

"Bili… you are a bearer of the Eyes of Death."

"In our family, there's an ancient record… it speaks of a chosen one, who will one day influence the balance of the world.

These people are not ordinary—they possess tremendous power, capable of changing the world.

And you… you are one of them, Bili!"

My whole body trembled.

My skin prickled.

Chills ran down my spine.

If what Grandpa said was true…

then a great storm would come.

Many innocent lives would be lost.

And me—

"…And whatever you face in the future, I will always pray for your safety."

He coughed—blood came out of his mouth.

I flinched, frightened, watching his condition worsen.

"…Honestly, I didn't want to tell you this… because I didn't want to place such a heavy burden on your shoulders.

But if I don't tell you… it'll be even more dangerous for you later on."

"So Bili, learn your power seriously. Become strong… so you can protect the people you love.

And also… you must hide your power from others.

Because your power is dangerous—whether to humans, demons, or even gods…

they will all fear you."

Those were the last words my grandfather ever spoke to me.

And once again—

I lost someone dear to me.

"The last person I loved… was you… Grandpa."

From that moment on, I began to shut my heart.

I returned to my old home—

a large and luxurious mansion, still well-maintained and clean.

The servants had been waiting faithfully for their young master to return.

When I finally came back, they welcomed me.

Each servant had their own duties—

managing finances, preparing meals, cleaning, and more.

There were over fifty servants in the house.

Because the mansion was as grand as a palace.

I believe I already mentioned this:

My father was a successful businessman—

he owned a luxury cruise business and a restaurant franchise that expanded not only throughout the country but also abroad.

I began testing my powers.

Whenever I activated the Eyes of Death, my eyes would turn red—

and I'd see black smoke everywhere, clinging to every element I looked at.

Each type of thing had a different hue of death smoke.

Humans and animals had reddish-black smoke.

Objects gave off grayish-black smoke.

Plants, greenish-black.

I began experimenting with what this power could do.

If my power involved the death of all things…

then I had to experiment with death itself.

My first experiment—

was killing an animal.

I prepared a cat.

The weapon: a small knife, only 5cm long.

I activated the Eyes of Death.

My eyes turned red.

I saw the reddish-black smoke surrounding the cat's body.

I didn't stab the cat.

Instead, I sliced the smoke.

I slashed at a small thread of the smoke near its body—

and instantly, the cat collapsed.

Lifeless.

Its death smoke flowed into my body.

And I felt something change.

A strange energy began flowing through me.

"So… that's how it works…"

I started to understand.

By cutting the smoke around them,

the death energy would be absorbed into me—

and they would die, leaving no wounds at all.

I continued experimenting:

Could I release the death energy I absorbed?

Could I transfer it?

And more…

To become stronger and fight skillfully,

I joined a martial arts school—Silat—

to learn how to battle with discipline.

And every night—

I watched in silence.

Hunting them one by one—

the wretched demons who killed my parents.

Time passed quickly.

Seven years flew by.

Now, I'm 15 years old,

and next month—

I'll be starting high school.
