Chapter 7: A World No Longer Alone
Over an hour had passed since the soul beast skeleton incident.
He simply marked the area and continued on his way. Time was precious. The soul beast's bones held some use, and it wouldn't be too late to collect them later when he returned. Most importantly, he had to explore for food sources, otherwise he would starve.
The forest mist gradually thinned, quickly dissipating as the sunlight grew stronger.
Besides the soul beast skeleton he had just seen, he witnessed some interesting sights along the way.
A deer-like soul beast, fleeing without a clear path, charged towards him, frightening him to death. Forgive him for never having experienced combat, but the sight of a soul beast as tall as a man charging at 80 mph would have stunned anyone.
Later, the soul beast itself, startled by the radiation, tripped, its feet slipping on the rocks, and landed headfirst on the ground.
Its antlers clashed with the gravel beneath, spilling its brains all over its face. Tsk, tsk, it was as thrilling as skidding while speeding.
In the blink of an eye, a dark shadow appeared near the spirit beast's corpse and pounced heavily upon the already dead beast.
Then, realizing its prey was dead, before Uchiha Uran could even register what kind of spirit beast it was, the four-legged spirit beast, resembling a wolf or leopard, instantly took flight!
Not literally, but the carnivorous spirit beast, treading on the corpse, arched its back in fear and leaped high in the air!
Then, using all four legs, it fled, swifter than ever before, out of Uchiha Uran's sight. The twists and turns left him stunned.
However, this incident also proved that he was indeed a being that spirit beasts dreaded. Ordinary spirit beasts wouldn't even think of taking his prey, fearing he wasn't fast enough and wishing they had more legs.
This scene left a deep impression on him. As far as he could remember, only the C9 jungler's trickery pig in League of Legends could rival it.
The soul beast before him gave him a more direct experience. It appeared with a whoosh, then, its fur standing on end, fled with another whoosh.
After a long, chuckled moment leaning against the tree, Uchiha Uranium gradually stopped laughing.
His expression grew serious. Objectively analyzing the situation, he wondered if it hadn't been for the terrifying aura of nuclear radiation, or if it hadn't been for the high concentration of radiation within his body that had threatened the soul beast's demise, how would he have died if he had faced the soul beast head-on, which had appeared and disappeared so elusively?
Too quickly, his radiation eye had barely begun to swirl before it was all over. If it had been a sneak attack, he would have been powerless to resist.
And then there was the fact that he had stood there, idly, waiting for death, as the herbivorous soul beast charged at him. That action made him want to slap himself.
He had no actual combat experience, no martial spirit development, no judgmental thinking skills—nothing, nothing. He was a complete waste.
Thinking about this, and then considering the possibility that he hadn't been threatened by his own nuclear radiation, would he have died within the first hour of entering the forest?
Uchiha Uranium looked at his unfamiliar surroundings and suddenly felt uneasy. After concluding that his nuclear radiation would drive away the spirit beasts, had he been too complacent?
Indeed, if he truly lived peacefully in the forest, it would be like raising a waste. Not to mention that the spirit beasts wouldn't actively attack him.
What if a spirit beast appeared one day and, even if threatened by radiation, was determined to kill him, would he be completely defenseless?
"Damn it," he cursed himself silently, calling him stupid and self-righteous. Fortunately, nothing serious had happened this time.
He didn't have any medicine on him, and if he got poisoned or contracted tetanus, he'd probably be dead.
Although he wasn't sure if his soul master's physique could withstand it, he decided not to risk his life. Since he'd been reborn, he might as well be a little more survivable. Wouldn't it be better to clear the level with one life?
"Never mind. Any living thing around me will be infected by the radiation anyway. I'll just treat this soul beast as something I found along the way. If it gets eaten by another soul beast, it probably won't survive long."
"Let's take this soul beast back. It'll be good for over two weeks after drying. Tsk, I'm really lucky."
Uchiha Uran smiled, rolled up his shirt, adjusted the hem of his trousers, adjusted his angle to prevent the soul beast's brains from splattering on him, and finally carried it up, heading back the way they came.
Today's operation ended here. He had found a deer-like soul beast. He probably wouldn't have to forage for food for a long time. He had more than enough to eat. He'd set up a shelter back home.
Along the way, Uchiha Uran could sense prying eyes around him, but they disappeared quickly, probably attracted by the smell of blood. Then, stimulated by the radiation, they quickly fled.
Passing by the soul beast skeleton he had passed earlier, he paused for a moment, set the deer carcass aside, and pulled three pale, undamaged ribs from the ground.
He pinned them to his lower back, tied them with the string attached to his robe, and then carried them, slowly making his way home.
It was approaching dusk.
The last rays of sunlight shone through the hastily prepared camp. All the vegetation had decayed, slumped to the ground in despair.
From the dead tree to the branches and leaves that crumbled at the slightest touch, they all felt a sense of lifelessness in the twilight.
The radiation was spreading far faster than in normal radiation zones, perhaps due to the presence of humans.
Even in radiation zones on modern Earth, animals still inhabited them. Although it took centuries for them to gradually return, they were not very sensitive to radiation.
In the few radiation zones on modern Earth, the animals that once existed didn't flee immediately after the radiation exposure. Instead, they fled en masse after a period of mass deaths caused by the radiation.
So, the question was, just how high was the radiation level in his body? It can actually directly disperse soul beasts.
This is difficult to measure, but it is obvious that at least his life will not be disturbed by endless soul beasts, and that's all.
If he takes the initiative to cause trouble, then the soul beasts are also likely to attack him under the current pressure. After all, the invisible threat of nuclear radiation cannot be seen in a few minutes.
The dispersal effect is a warning, a warning that comes from instinct and blood. It will invisibly raise the threat level to the highest level, so the soul beasts will flee.
It is a warning to flee even if they accidentally enter the territory of other soul beasts and start a fight. Compared with the pressure of high-level soul beasts, Uchiha Uranium is no less powerful.
Night falls.
At this time, some dull footsteps gradually came from the forest.
