In this world, what is the most destructive Devil Fruit?
Is it Kizaru's Pika Pika no Mi? Is it Byrnndi World's Moa Moa no Mi? Is it Whitebeard's Gura Gura no Mi? Or Fujitora's Gravity-Gravity Fruit?
No, none of them. The most destructive Devil Fruit in One Piece to date is the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi (Float-Float Fruit).
Granted, the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi itself hasn't displayed any incredible destructive power, but if you think about it from another perspective, how much destruction would it cause to float a massive island, tens of thousands of kilometers in area and weighing hundreds of millions of tons, to ten thousand meters high, and then drop it?
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the mere falling of Sokovia caused a terrifying impact capable of extinguishing humanity on Earth. The total area of Shiki's floating island cluster, "STRONG WORLD," is several times larger than Sokovia.
Moreover, this isn't necessarily the limit of Shiki's floating capacity. Once his Fuwa Fuwa no Mi touches and floats something, he doesn't need to maintain it. This means, given time, he could float even more islands.
With this ability, he could easily destroy nations, or even flatten continents.
Float islands up, then release the ability. The islands falling from the sky would be like falling Axis, completely destroying the geography of an entire country through terrifying impact, leading to a wider range of species extinction.
The Devil Fruit Shiki possesses is strong enough to allow him to easily decide the fate of the world.
Perhaps the pride of the former Shiki would have prevented him from doing such cruel and despicable things, which is why he alone dared to infiltrate Marineford twenty-four years ago, instead of simply dropping a few islands to level Marineford first.
He had the ability. Let alone the Marine Headquarters at that time, even with the current three Admirals, whose Devil Fruit could withstand giant islands dropped by Shiki?
Aside from Devil Fruits with special abilities, the descent of a giant island would be enough to easily destroy the entire Marineford.
Even if Garp and Sengoku could smash the islands, the falling fragments would still level Marineford. He could, of course, apply the same method to the Great Prison.
He probably went to Marineford simply to die, as he was utterly obsessed with Roger, who had ruined his dream.
"Pirate King? So what? Although we weren't close, we did live in the same era. If he's here, bring him to me. If he's to be killed, I'll do it myself!"
Shiki's battle at Marineford was purely for his old rival Roger. Being captured didn't matter, but he refused to accept that the man who had directly defeated him would be arrested by the Navy and ultimately executed in the weakest sea. Insulting Roger was also an insult to him.
Then, he was directly defeated by Garp and Sengoku, imprisoned in Impel Down, and languished there for two years. In prison, he became even more obsessed, believing he had to avenge Roger's humiliation and also show the world how truly powerful pirates were.
"Not every pirate yearns for the title of Pirate King," Shin said softly, looking at Luffy, who was listening intently.
"In Shiki's eyes, the title of reaching Laugh Tale is worthless. He acknowledges Roger but despises the title, believing that the current Great Pirate Era is nothing more than a bunch of treasure-hunting fans running wild at sea."
Shiki was undoubtedly a true pirate, committing all sorts of atrocities like burning, killing, and looting. He possessed the pride of a ruler and the cunning of a strategist.
But the only thing was, his mind was broken.
"After cutting off his legs and escaping Impel Down, he found this island. On it, he discovered plants called 'IQ', which he refined into a substance called 'CIQ' and implanted into beasts, turning them into terrifying, rampaging monsters."
Shin pointed at the giant gorilla, which Luffy's group had knocked down nearby, and sneered,
"Then Shiki went into hiding for twenty years, and after the era almost forgot him, he endured all this time just to deploy these things in the East Blue countries and destroy the East Blue?"
To retaliate against the World Government by attacking the nations of the East Blue, Shiki had practically abandoned all his pride. Losing his pride was one thing, but challenging the World Government with these animals was utterly useless.
He simply had to fly over a country and drop islands on it. The World Government couldn't track his movements. As long as he fought a few guerrilla battles, without the World Government's hidden forces intervening, he could directly flatten World Government affiliated countries one by one.
If these monstrous beasts were icing on the cake, that would be fine. But he endured hardship for twenty years just for these things, wasting a quarter of his life on such nonsense. What else could it be but his brain being smashed by a ship's rudder?
Twenty years. If he had just attacked one World Government affiliated country per year on average, by today, he would have gravely wounded the World Government.
"Don't you think Shiki, who wasted so much time doing such a foolish thing, didn't have his brain smashed?"
"Really? I actually think that uncle is pretty amazing," Luffy laughed loudly.
"Even though he stole Nami and I definitely have to beat him up, he's still a pretty amazing uncle, right?"
"What does his broken brain have to do with the outcome of the battle?" Sanji asked, a cigarette dangling from his lips.
"You know about Haki, right?" Shin said indifferently, closing his eyes.
"Even if few of you have practiced it, you should at least know that Haki is an essential power in the second half of the Grand Line: Armament Haki, Observation Haki, Conqueror's Haki. This power originates from your life force, but manifesting it requires considerable mental strength."
"Only a strong spirit and will can unleash the power of Haki. But that crazy old lion, let alone maintaining his former Haki, probably can't even use much normal Haki now."
The most idealistic power in One Piece is undoubtedly Haki's power. Compared to others, Haki truly requires a strong mind to wield.
It's not to say that you can't survive in the New World without Haki, but in battles between top experts, the strength of Haki is a crucial determinant of victory.
And Shiki, he not only lost the heart he once had as a pirate overlord, but his maddened brain also prevents him from climbing to his former peak.
"Raiku Bagua!"
"Lion's Threat: Earth Command!!!"
An entire island, under Shiki's control, smashed towards Kaido. But the colossal dragon's body took the full force of the attack, and myriad lightning bolts blasted towards Shiki.
Shiki once again unleashed a Thousand Grinding Valley slash. The brilliant golden sword energy collided with countless falling lightning bolts and dissipated. The air groaned, the slashes tore through the lightning and broke through the scorching white sea of fire, yet they still appeared so dim.
Shiki gasped, his tall body hunched over. The high-intensity continuous combat was taking its toll on his aging body. Kaido, however, was the opposite; this current battle wasn't even enough to warm him up.
"Old man Shiki, your era has passed. You're nothing more than a decaying old ghost waiting to be buried in the grave!"
Kaido's dragon body maneuvered in the vast sky, his mocking voice echoing through the clouds.
Even if Shiki's Devil Fruit ability surpassed ninety percent of the strong people on this sea, even if his swordsmanship, kicked out with his feet, could hardly be matched by any swordsman in this world... he was still so pathetic.
Because he could have done better. His Devil Fruit ability used to be stronger, his swordsmanship once dominated the seas, his Haki once unparalleled.
The Shiki Kaido knew wasn't like this. The Shiki he knew was an absolute bastard, but also an absolute overlord.
Overbearing, fierce, cruel. Now look at him, laughable, foolish, fragile!
"Shiki, you old bastard shouldn't be like this!!!!!"
Kaido's wailing voice echoed across the island. A more powerful and ferocious Conqueror's Haki swept towards Shiki, like dark clouds pressing down.
Shiki gritted his teeth, crimson blood gushing from his mouth. This immense pressure even made his bones groan.
"You shouldn't be like this, Shiki! How could you, an immortal old man, become like this!!!"
Kaido's furious tail whip slammed into Shiki's chest, slamming him directly onto an island. Shiki spat out blood, having tried to condense Armament Haki just now, but found he couldn't.
The man who once contended with Whitebeard and Kaido on the seas, now couldn't even use Haki.
Kaido refused to accept that the former Shiki had fallen to such a pathetic state. He was the man who had inherited Rocks' will the most within the Rocks Pirates, and he was also the man who had assembled the strongest fleet, intending to contend for supremacy over the world.
"Answer me, Shiki! What happened to you, to become like this!!!"
Kaido looked at the motionless Shiki with disappointment and coldness. In the crater he had been flung into, Shiki chuckled softly, looking up at the dragon's shadow that blotted out the sky.
"Jie ha ha ha ha ha, Kaido, the brat from back then has become quite something now..."
He was almost at the end of his rope. He knew he wasn't Kaido's match. Shiki, who once contended for world dominance, dying at the hands of the brat from his old crew, now an emperor of the seas, seemed not so unacceptable, perhaps?
"Shiki surrendered," Shin said softly.
"He lost faster than I thought. He really is just an old ghost at the end of his life, near death..."
He struggled to stand up, baring his teeth, and said to Franky beside him,
"Hey, do you have a megaphone? If not, I'll have to use the one up there."
"Of course I do, but what are you going to do, Iron Ball Head?" Franky asked curiously.
"Don't ask, just get it out... That old lion can't fall now, otherwise your companion will be dead for sure. And it'll drag me into it. All of you, all the other living people on this island, might die."
Shin glared at the giant Kaido in the air, gritting his teeth.
"If Shiki dies, this island will lose the control of his ability and fall. The people on the island who don't leave in time will die. The probability of you and your companions surviving is quite small, and even if you do survive, you'll be in big trouble."
"Why?" Robin asked.
"...Do you know where you've floated to now?" Shin looked at Robin, speaking in a low voice.
"Shiki was originally controlling these islands to drift towards the East Blue, but Kaido's intervention stopped his voyage, so this island is now directly above the top of the Red Line."
"You mean—" Robin's face suddenly turned pale.
"Yes, we are currently at the top of the Holy Land, Mary Geoise."
