Chapter 15 - "Mayumi Kirisu’s Advice"

"Grades are out? Huh, I didn't even notice."

Andrew shrugged, acting like he didn't care at all.

On the other hand, Tobube Sho looked like he was constipated, staring at Andrew with an expression full of envy and resentment.

He hated this kind of top student.

So damn competitive.

He'd been out of school for a whole month, and he still managed to get first place in the exams? That's just unfair!

But the moment Andrew casually offered to let him copy his math homework, all that envy and resentment disappeared from Tobube Sho's face, replaced by sheer joy.

Hayama Hayato sighed, clearly exasperated. "Sho, you really should be doing your homework yourself. If you spend all your time playing around and fail your exams, you'll end up spending your weekends in make-up classes."

"I knooow, Hayato. I'm not stupid. I'd never mess around with my weekends like that. This is just for convenience!"

As long as he could keep his grades above the passing line and not flunk, Sho was fine. He didn't have high expectations for himself.

Besides, he had to take care of his hair and do his skincare routine. There was no time to waste on studying.

So, Andrew became his go-to guy for math homework.

Not that Andrew cared. It's not his grades on the line.

If he wants to copy, go ahead. No big deal.

It's important to fit in when you're trying to blend in with the class anyway.

And since Sho was Hayama Hayato's friend, getting in his good graces meant stepping into Hayato's social circle too. That also helped boost Andrew's presence and influence in the class.

Why the hell not?

Besides, being a top student is another great way to build influence.

It's not just the adult world—high school students are even more cutthroat when it comes to competition.

Top scorers always get more attention. People admire them more easily too.

Shiina Mahiru was pretty surprised when she saw the ranking list.

She didn't expect to get beat.

She scored 98. But Andrew?

He got 99.

Her cheeks puffed out with frustration. She was not okay with this.

Wasn't this guy in the hospital for a whole month? And he still got 99?

Next time, she was going to beat him and take back her rightful place at the top of the year!

Even though she was frustrated, deep down, she felt oddly proud.

What girl doesn't want her man to be amazing?

The room buzzed with chatter from the students until the bell rang for class.

In walked a stunning woman in professional attire—a form-fitting skirt suit and long, soft pink hair—Mayumi Kirisu. She strolled into the classroom with grace.

Her clear, beautiful voice rang out as she began the day's lesson.

She taught history.

But Andrew? His attention wasn't on the lesson at all.

His eyes were drifting toward Mayumi Kirisu's curvy figure... and occasionally glancing at the backs of some of the girls in class.

One of them, Nibutani Shinka, was sitting upright in her seat, looking like the perfect student.

But Andrew knew her secret—back in middle school, Nibutani had a major case of chuunibyou.

She legit believed she was a 500-year-old sorceress and even wrote an entire spellbook.

Speaking of sorcerers, Andrew actually had a power like that himself.

Too bad the only "follower" he had so far was the little angel Mahiru, so the only ability he'd unlocked was super regeneration.

All those cool sorcerer skills were still locked.

But he wasn't in a rush. He was here to enjoy life.

High school was actually turning out to be pretty fun.

In his past life, he was a totally washed-up web novelist. After graduating high school, he randomly got into a no-name university with nothing but dudes in his class.

He didn't even get to talk to girls.

Now that he had a second chance at high school and was surrounded by so many cute girls, wasn't it only right to enjoy it to the fullest and make up for the regrets of his previous life?

Before he knew it, class was over.

But just as he was packing up, Mayumi Kirisu called out to him and told him to come to her office.

Andrew quickly followed her.

Once they got there, Kirisu looked at him—a boy who was kind of handsome with bright, clear eyes—and nodded with a small smile.

"Andrew, how are you getting along with your classmates? Are you settling in okay?"

"It's going great! Everyone's been super nice to me. I feel like I've already become part of the class."

"That's good to hear." Kirisu nodded, pleased, then continued,"Your math score is really impressive. You just got out of the hospital and still managed to score 99. Were you studying on your own while you were there?"

Andrew waved it off.

"Not at all. I was in a coma most of the time. Didn't get a chance to study."

Kirisu looked genuinely surprised. "Then you must have a real talent for math. Are you planning to go the science route in your second year?"

In second year, students could choose to specialize in either humanities or sciences.

But Andrew shook his head. "Nope, I'm going into humanities, Kirisu. I want to become a light novel author, so I'm not planning to focus on science."

"Huh? A light novel author? Wouldn't that be wasting your talent?"

Kirisu frowned and couldn't help trying to persuade him:

"Andrew, I really think you should consider building on what you're good at. Some chances only come once in a lifetime. Don't do something you'll regret later."

Her expression turned a bit complicated at that point.

Clearly, she was speaking from experience—she'd done something in the past she still regretted.

"I get it, Kirisu. I've already started submitting my work to publishers. If it doesn't go anywhere, I'll switch to science."

Andrew was being super respectful. He appreciated her advice and listened with sincerity, but he also made it clear where he stood.

That made Kirisu look even more satisfied.

If all her students were this mature, clear-headed, and knew what they wanted from the future, her job would be so much easier.

"..."
