Chapter 40 - 40: The Sky's Song

The sky began to dim.Deep orange hues burned at the edges of the clouds, and the evening breeze drifted softly through the streets of Wuyin.

Li Yuan made his way back to the innDusk Sky.

The inn appeared calm, just like its name.Built from well-kept aged wood, its windows reflected the golden light of late afternoon.By the entrance, red lanterns swayed gently, emitting a soft sound,as if humming a quiet tune.

"The sky's song…"Li Yuan thought."As if the sky is trying to say somethingto those willing to listen."

He entered the corridor of the inn,the wooden floor creaking softly beneath each step. But to Li Yuan, the sound wasn't a disturbanceit was a reminderthat this place was alive, that time still flowed, even in the quietest of places.

Upon reaching his room,he opened the window.

The evening sky unfolded before him.Birds were returning to their nests. The last light of the sun touched the rooftops. The air carried the faint scent of tea from the kitchen below.

Everything felt slow…but whole.

Li Yuan sat cross-legged.He opened his journal, titled:

"A Journey to Understand the World."

On the next blank page,he wrote slowly:

"The sky's song is not a sound. It is a feeling that arises when we stop, sit still, and realize the world… is still speaking."

In the stillness of that evening,Li Yuan closed his eyes. Not to sleepbut to feel the world around him.

The sky,time,his footsteps,and childhood memories

all blended into a single, voiceless song.

The sky's song.The heart's song.The song of understanding.

Step by step,Li Yuan walked down the corridor of the Dusk Sky Inn.The morning sky was still wrapped in a thin mist, and the soft sound of wooden sandals touching the floorseemed to compose the rhythm of thought itself.

But these steps were not merely physical movements. Each one left a trace. And every trace carried a shadowa shadow of understanding, slowly growing within him.

"My steps are not just a way to move through space,"Li Yuan murmured inwardly."My steps are understanding. My steps are martial art.My steps are me."

The further he walked, the more he began to realize something:

There was a figure following behind each of his steps.

Not a person. Not an ordinary shadow. But somethingslowly forming from his breath, from his movements, and from… his own fear.

The figure had no face. But its steps mirrored Li Yuan's own.Its movements imitated hisyet felt heavier, quieter…deeper.

"Is this… the shape of a fear I've yet to understand?"

Li Yuan stopped. The figure stopped as well.He took a breath.Steadied his mind. And with full awareness, took another step forward.

From the understanding of steps, the shadow of the step was born. From the understanding of fear, the form of fear took shape.

Within his inner realm,a new figure began to emergeno longer vague,no longer fleeting, but not yet whole.

This figure was:The Shadow of the Stepa manifestation of footprints made from both fear and belief,no longer at odds.

"I walk because I understand.And because I understand… I am no longer afraid."

Li Yuan's steps grew lighter. But his shadow…grew clearer.

Because every understandingshapes a world. And every fear that is understoodceases to be an enemy.

Silence. Not because there was no sound, but because all sounds had entered within.

Li Yuan sat in the attic of the Dusk Sky Inn,gazing at the morning sun filtering through the cracks in the bamboo roof.

There was no whisper of wind.No footsteps.Only his own heartbeat…and something softer than that.

A knock.

A silent knock that did not come from outside, but from within himself. Not like a door being struck. Not like stone being tapped. But something that could only be heardby a quiet heartand a mind long settled.

"This is not a sound," thought Li Yuan."But a signal. A call from within understanding."

The knock did not call outward. It called inward—into a deeper layer within him.Deeper than steps, deeper than fear, deeper than the understanding of water, wind, or even absence.

A door only awareness could open.

Li Yuan closed his eyes. One breath. Two breaths. With each inhale, the knock became more real.

But it made no noise.Did not stir disruption.Instead… it deepened the silence.

Silence like a world that had forgotten time.Silence like a sea without waves.

"Is this… the voice from the innermost layer?"

In that instant, his inner realm trembled.

Not violently. But like the first breezeacross the surface of a long-still lake.

Something began to grow. Not yet formed. Not yet named. But he knew:

It was the response of a new understanding.

An understanding he could not yet explain.

"When the outer world becomes too noisy, only the silent knock can lead me home."

Inward.To the center.To origin.

Li Yuan opened his eyes. The sky had changed color. But the knock…was still audible.Still present.Still guiding.
