Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Our First Quest

We arrived at the Inn the old man told us about. We told the receptionist who we were and he gave us keys to their most "fancy room". When we got to our room and opened the door we realized it wasn't fancy. Imagine a run down motel room. That's what it was like. It had a desk with a chair that looked like a child made it and one bed. Due to me being the oldest I of course had to take the bed. I shoved Sawyer out of my way and jumped on the bed. Worst idea ever.

The mattress was more solid than concrete, and the blankets, I don't even wanna talk about them. They were solid. It was like someone soaked them in water then froze them. Minus them being cold like ice.

I got off the bed and looked at Sawyer, "All yours."

He looked at me with an annoyed expression, no clue why though, I didn't do anything. Anyways I laid on the floor and passed out.

When I woke up I found Sawyer passed out on the chair. I decided to wake him up in the most loving way possible. I pulled the chair out from underneath him. He hit the ground with a thud.

"Asshole," he looked like he wanted to kill me, which was always, "I'm so getting you back for this."

"Whatever," I wave my hand dismissively before smiling, "let's go get our adventurer licenses now." (Time for a time skip)

We arrive at the guild after an hour of walking and getting lost. When we walked in, the lady from yesterday wasn't there. It was still a woman though, meaning I was most likely gonna get ignored. We walk up to the desk and ask for our licenses. She reaches into a drawer and pulls them out.

She set Sawyers on the counter infront of him but put mine directly in my hands, "Here you go, go have fun out there"

"Thank you.." I look at Sawyer confused before me and him walk to the other side of the guild to accept our first quest.

"That girl has something wrong with her" Sawyer said blankly as we arrived at the quest bored, looking for a decent quest to start with.

"Oh, a hundred percent. You're supposed to be the one that girls do that to, not me." I pick off a B-rank quest and show it to him. "Anyways let's start with this quest. Even though we have the mana of an S-rank we should start off small. Plus this one is the easiest, we just gotta kill 10 slimes and return Thor cores."

Sawyer nods and we head out of the guild to do the quest. After an hour of walking we finally make it outside the kingdom to look for slimes. We saw slimes in the distance and ran towards them. As we got closer we realized we made a mistake. The slimes were at least 10 feet tall. We also forgot to get gear so we were gonna have to either fight bare handed or run.

Now you might be thinking, "Well did you run?". We tried, but those fuckers are fast. Every 20 steps me and Sawyer took was equivalent to HALF a hop for the slime. Once we realized that we gave up trying to run and squared up. I threw a punch at one of the slimes but as you would expect my hand just slid into it, as one might say. And they were sticky too, making it annoying trying to pull my hand back out without getting stuck. Sawyer saw me struggling to get my hand out of a slime and tried to help me pull my hand out. With our combined efforts we got my hand out of the slime and tried to run, again, to get distance but now we needed to figure out a way to kill it. That's when I remembered magic was a thing.

I turned towards Sawyer, "Try casting a spell!"

He looked at me like I was crazy, I mean neither of us knew how to use magic yet and I was telling him to cast a spell like he was a prodigy.

"How the hell am I supposed to do that exactly!?" He yelled, obviously annoyed with my suggestion

"I don't know, think of a spell you'd see in an anime and try doing that!"

He just stared at me before stopping and letting out a sigh, "Fine, do you think I should try a fire ball or something?"

"I don't care, just try something." I stopped too to watch him.

"If this doesn't work and we die I'll kill you" he raised his hand at the slime. He closed his eyes and began to chant something. Suddenly a magic circle (shut up, I know it's lazy) began to glow in front of his hand, a tiny fireball hovering in front of it before growing bigger. Except it didn't stop, it kept growing until it was the size of the slime. I shouted at Sawyer to stop and to just shoot the fire ball. He opened his eyes in shock and stopped chanting. As soon as he stopped the fire ball flew towards the slime and hit it. At first nothing happened, maybe it was a dud. But then the slime exploded, a column of fire shot into the sky, penetrating the clouds. The shock wave was massive, almost knocking me and Sawyer to the ground. It only lasted for a few seconds before dispersing. When the smoke cleared up the slime was gone. Where it once stood was now burned up with a green glowing core.
