The next day hit and afterwards, Kostas and Pyrrha prepare themselves for the initiation. They know very little about it but from what Pyrrha's dad says, the initiations involve fighting Grimm, so they are preparing for combat. After Kostas tightens his armor, he grabs his retractable shield and attaches it to his left forearm before extending the shield before retracting it. He then grabs Prometheus and places it in the sheath/holster on his hip. He then grabs his cape and attaches it to his armor and as he does, he hears a girl's voice start speaking to both him and Pyrrha.
"You two wouldn't happen to be Kostas Helios and Pyrrha Nikos would you?" The girl asked.
Kostas had to look around Pyrrha to see this newcomer and saw a girl in a fancy dress. He immediately recognized her as Weiss Schnee.
"That we are, and you are?" Pyrrha said, being polite.
"Weiss Schnee." Weiss introduced before she went on to speak. "So, have you two given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such strong, well-known individuals such as yourselves."
Kostas caught onto what she was trying to do. Weiss wanted to be on their team, and he guessed why. They were popular and tournament champions. He sighs as this was a similar case for a lot of people. Wanting to get close to them solely because of their status. It did annoy him, but he never showed it.
"Hmm... I'm not quite sure." Pyrrha said with honesty. "I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may."
"And you Kostas?" Weiss asked.
"Something similar to Pyrrha." Kostas admits.
Though, he was hoping he'd be placed on his cousin's team so that they could stick together.
"Well, i was thinking maybe we could be on a team together." Weiss suggested.
"Well, that sounds grand!" Pyrrha states, not wanting to be rude.
"Great!" Weiss said, clearly happy.
She then turned around and looked to be in a scheming pose causing Kostas and Pyrrha to look at each other and then back at Weiss. Meanwhile, Weiss was going on a rant in her head.
"This will be perfect! The smartest girl in class combined with the two strongest people in class! Together we will be unstoppable! I can see it now, we'll be popular, we'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades; nothing can come between us now!" Weiss said within her mind.
A blonde guy then stepped in and snapped Weiss out of her thoughts.
"You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you." Jaune greets.
His mere presence seemed to bring great irritation to Weiss for some reason.
"You again?" Weiss asked.
"Nice to meet you, Jaune!" Pyrrha says, in her attempt to defuse a potentially bad situation.
"Yeah, yeah." Jaune said without care as he pushes Pyrrha aside and focuses his attention on Weiss.
Kostas glares a little at Jaune for that action, but he lets it slide for now. Just for now.
"So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness of me the other day." Jaune brings up.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!"
"Don't worry! No need to be embarrassed! So, been hearing rumors about teams. I was thinking you and me would make a good one." Jaune said. "What do ya say?"
Pyrrha gets his attention by speaking, making Jaune turn to him.
"Actually, I think the teams are comprised of four students each, so-"
"You don't say? Well then you two, play your cards right and maybe you could join up with the winning team." Jaune offers to both Kostas and Pyrrha.
Weiss then steps in and separates Jaune from Pyrrha and Kostas by getting in between them.
"Jaune is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?" Weiss asked.
"Oh, here we go." Kostas mumbles.
"Not in the slightest snow angel." Jaune said, attempting to flirt a little.
"This is Pyrrha and Kostas." Weiss introduces.
"Hello again!" Pyrrha greets.
"They graduated top of their class at Sanctum." Weiss stated.
"Never heard of it."
"They both won multiple Mistral Region Tournaments In a row! A new Record!" Weiss said with a scoff.
"The what?" Jaune asked, unaware of what that was.
Weiss then begins to flail her arms rapidly in anger.
"Pyrrha's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!" Weiss reveals, frustrated that Jaune was this stupid.
This caused Jaune to gasp and Kostas to chuckle lightly. Kostas found it humorous that the only way someone could remember Pyrrha was through a cereal box.
"That's you!? But they only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!" Jaune said, astonished.
"Yeah, it was pretty cool." Pyrrha said.
"And embarrassing." Kostas mumbled under his breath in a joking manner so only Pyrrha could hear.
She playfully glared at him before looking back at Jaune.
"Sadly, the cereal isn't very good for you."
"So, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask them to be on your team?" Weiss asked.
"I guess not… sorry." Jaune said, in a sad way.
"Actually Jaune. I think you'd make a great leader." Pyrrha said trying to brighten his spirit.
This works and brightens Jaune up.
"D'oh stop it!"
"Seriously please stop it. This kind of behavior should not be encouraged." Weiss complained.
"Let the guy live a little." Kostas said.
"Sounds like Pyrrha and Kostas are onboard for team Jaune. Spots are filling up quickly! Now I'm not supposed to do this but maybe I could pull some strings, find a place for you." Jaune explained. "What do ya say?"
"All right, that's a bit too close! Pyrrha, a little help please?" Weiss asked, weirded out by Jaune's offer.
Jaune looked back just in time as Pyrrha's weapon struck him in the hood and sending him flying into a pair of lockers. All Kostas did was shake his head.
"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha apologized.
Soon an announcement plays over the intercom system. Kostas recognizes the voice as Glynda Goodwitch.
"Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately." Glynda announces.
Weiss, Pyrrha and Kostas pass Jaune on their way to the cliff while Pyrrha recalls her spear which drops Jaune to the ground.
"It was nice meeting you." Pyrrha said.
[Beacon Cliff, Sometime later]
At the Beacon Cliff, many of the potential new students of Beacon are standing on silver tiles in front of Professor Ozpin and Glynda Goodwitch. Ozpin held a mug, and Glynda had a tablet in her possession.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Ozpin said.
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams. Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates… today." Glynda reveals.
"What? Ohhh…" A girl said, sounding concerned.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So, it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."
The same girl from before groans uncomfortably.
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." Ozpin said.
"Whaaat!?" the same girl from before said, stunned.
"See? I told you!" Another girl said.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path… or you will die." Ozpin said, ending his sentence ominously.
Jaune laughs nervously and then gulps loudly.
"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item as well as you standing and grade you appropriately." Ozpin explains. "Are there any questions?"
"Yeah, um, sir?" Jaune asked with a raised hand.
"Good! Now, take your positions." Ozpin said, completely ignoring Jaune.
Kostas grabs Prometheus and lets his shield form on his arm. Everyone else strikes a pose as they get ready to be deployed into the Forest. However, Jaune is still raising his hand.
"Uh, sir? I've got um… a question." Jaune said.
The tile under Weiss launched her into the forest like a catapult. This happens to everyone else as it gets closer to Kostas. He sees this and calms his nerves down. He is then launched into the forest.
"So this landing… strategy thing… uh, wha-what is it? You're like dropping us off or something?" Jaune asked.
"No. you will be falling." Ozpin answered.
"Oh, uh, I see… so like, did you hand out parachutes for us?" Jaune asked once more.
"No. you will be using your own landing strategy." Ozpin revealed.
"Uh-huh… yeah." Jaune said, nervously. "So, what exactly is a landing strategYYYYY!!!!"
He is soon launched while talking and his voice gets more distant. Ozpin then takes a sip of his drink with a satisfied smile on his face.
