Chapter 13 - Exit and Escape

Ah... I think it's better I leave.

There was a soft hum in the boss room. A strange blue light floated in the center It was a teleportation stone.

My body was already weak, I didn't even question it I just walked into the light.

The moment I stepped in, everything flashed.

A second later, I was outside.

—Outside the Gate—

I stumbled as I arrived. My body was a mess and full of blood, clothes torn, limbs shaking. My stance was awkward, but I was alive.

"Hey everyone… t-t-the kid... he's coming out alive!" a voice shouted.

I slowly looked up, there were a lot of people around Hunters and Medics, all standing outside the dungeon Some of them I didn't see when I entered.

I guess the dungeon evolving caused a stir, and they called for backup.

"Oiii… kid!" a hunter with red spiky hair waved at me. "You cleared the dungeon?! That's crazy! You wanna join our team for future raids?"

"Yuta, let the kid be," another hunter said, smacking him lightly. "Can't you see he's barely standing?"

I didn't say a word. My legs wobbled. My head throbbed. All I wanted was peace and rest

Too many eyes were on me, too many questions were coming.

I needed to leave.

"Void Step."

A ripple passed through the air. In a flash, I vanished.

"Huh?! Where did he go?!"

"What tha, how did he disappear like that?!"

"Did he just teleport?!"

Everyone was shocked, murmuring and shouting.

But not everyone was clueless.

Two A-rank hunters stood near the trees, silently watching.

Daiki narrowed his eyes. "Airi… did you see that?"

Yes, that movement… That wasn't normal, Airi replied, her gaze locked in the direction Souta had gone. "That boy… he's not just some rookie."

—Deeper in the Forest—

Finally am away from all that noise.

I leaned against a tree and slid down slowly. The ground was cool, the air calm. I could finally breathe.

That was… such a pain, I mumbled.

Fighting C-rank beasts, all alone I just wanted a low-key dungeon raid to gain some easy levels, But nope i nearly died.

And the worst part, I barely even ranked up.

This is frustrating... I wanna go home."

But…the truth is, he has no home.

Not in this world.

"Status."

"Ugh! Still Level 7?!"

I punched the ground lightly, letting my head fall back against the tree.

When the hell am I gonna reach Level 100 and actually master my SSS-rank skills? This is so slow…

I sighed.

Looks like attribute points spawn randomly now, I got 8 this time.

I stared at the number, thinking for a while.

"…I think I will put them all in luck. I really need it."

I didn't trust my strength or defense anymore. What I needed was a miracle.

Hm… interesti…ti…ng…

My voice trailed off, my eyes grew heavier.

THUD!

I collapsed on my side. Not unconscious just exhausted, The weight of my body, my mind, everything… it finally pulled me down.

Some hours Later…

"Ugh…" Souta's eyes slowly opened. The sky above was getting dark, the sun hiding behind the moving clouds.

His back ached from the rough bark of the tree he had leaned on. The cold wind brushed against his bruised skin his body still felt like it had been torn apart and patched back together.

"How long have I been out?" he mumbled, sitting up

…Damn." He stood up slowly, wincing as the pain in his side reminded him he wasn't healed yet but he couldn't stay here forever.

I should head back to the guild for some exchange

He stretched his body a bit.

The walk back to town was quiet. The day was getting peaceful

He looked up at the sky.

"I almost died today…" he whispered to himself.

His mind started replaying the fight how those wolves came at him, how he fought like a wild animal, how his trait Cursed Curiosity had pushed him to the edge If he had hesitated just once, he'd be a corpse right now.

"But I survived…"

—Hunter's Guild—

The moment he entered, a few heads turned, the receptionist luna looked up from her desk and her eyes widened.

Souta?! You're back?" she said, standing up.

He waved weakly.

Luna stared at him for a second like she didn't believe what she was seeing. She nodded quickly.

would you like to make some exchange today?

Yes I will.

"You really did it…" she said softly.

Souta gave a tired smile.

I heard you solo cleared a C-RANK dungeon and when you came out you disappeared.

Yeah.

I just want to go now."

She nodded again. Rest well.

He left the guild and walked through the quiet streets His body wanted to collapse, but his mind was still active thinking too much.

He passed some restaurants and bars, people laughing and drinking inside For a moment he paused, watching them.

He missed is family and home

He finally reached a small building, his place

He opened the door and stepped inside

He looked around.

The room was cold. Empty. Just a bed, a table, that was all

"This is my life now?"

He sat on the bed slowly, staring at the wall.

I came to this world with an SSS-rank soul… and I'm still struggling," he whispered, clenching his fists. "Is it really worth it?"

He laid back and stared at the ceiling.

No family, No real friends, No one even knows who I really am."

Then he thought of the fight again, The blood, The fear, The power he felt when Cursed Curiosity activated.

"…I'm so tired."

He turned to the side and closed his eyes.

Tomorrow… I'll rest, then train, then maybe… another dungeon.

His breathing slowed.

He didn't even notice when he drifted off.
