Chapter 2 - Lilith Nocturna Valemire

Lilith Nocturna Valemire. The most beautiful girl on the beauty chart created by anonymous people. The beauty chart takes consideration of the person's background, talent, influence and most of all beauty in account to place someone in the chart.

The chart at one time was, a risky job because if some powerful family got offended, that would be the end of it.

But with people's support and growing enthusiasm, the chart established itself as an honorary board of competition for the younger generation.

Lilith was the only legitimate heir of the house of Valemire. Her family is one of the strongest in the entire world of Ignar. Her family's main base was on the northern side of the Federation.

Where the light of the sun rarely reaches. The country of Valemire which was named in honour of them, was home to many nocturnal races. But the country was mainly run by Vampires. In other words her family.

Lilith being born as a Vampire is naturally cold blooded and also has a cold personality. Her face is emotionless.

And that scares people away. That's, at least what she thinks. It was her invisible aura that does the job. And coupled with her emotionless expression, it makes even hard for people to approach.

She doesn't want to scare people. She wants to make friends as well. But being born into a strong family had its own cons.

They have a lot of enemies that will do anything to get the upper hand on them. So, she was forbidden to go out without guards. She didn't go out much because going out felt more lonely then not going at all.

Her life was mostly peaceful. So peaceful that she felt like she wasn't living at all. Lilith met her friends at a party and bonded. Despite her cold personality, they accept her as is. And she felt seen for who she is for the first time.

If not for her four friends, her life would have been mundane. Especially the destruction dragon, Kaida. Just like her race, her personality is also quirky.

Because of her friends, her life wasn't that boring. It was Kaida's idea to experience common life. The other three agreed as well so she couldn't say no. She told her wish to her confidantes and they were reluctant at first but her father intervened and let her do as she pleases, which surprised her a bit.

Even though they were father and daughter, she barely remembered his face. She conveyed her message to all her friends' families and they agreed readily.

They started going to a normal high school Kaida picked at random, three years ago. It has already been three years and all of them were nearing 18.

All this time she really enjoyed her time. She lived with her friends all the time, roamed around places. Except for those seven annoying men flocking around them like flies, everything was good. People called them top handsome men of the Federation.

But to Lilith, they were nothing more than opportunists. They just wanted to impress even one of them to uplift their standing.

The Law Bound day was coming soon. It happened on 25th of December every year. One week before New Year. Every teenager who is going to turn 18 next year is the subject of that Law.

Lilith had used her family resources and used a treasure that makes sure that the Law will bind selected people together. She used Forced Selection, a treasure of unknown grade to bind all five of them together.

None tells her what grade it is. She knows that it might be something way out of mortal comprehension. Since even her butler can't say lightly.

She left the last spot to random. But one day before the Law Bound, she got curious who the last person will be. To determine if the person is worthy or not, she used a temporal artifact to ask who might be the last person of her party.

It doesn't let her directly see the future and her servants won't let her use anything else. Lilith had no choice but to opt for this.

This artifact, is also something she doesn't know about except the fact it was given to her by her father. She asked the question when she was alone in her room and the other four were asleep. And what was revealed was shocking. The last member was,

Arcurus Dragonis Xevrion.

She was surprised to see a dragon royalty. She contacted her butler right there and then to get information about this Arcurus.

Her butler was efficient and sent the information within 10 seconds.

She read the whole thing and came to the conclusion that there was nothing impressive about the guy. But the World Laws will still bind them. That means that he either has potential to match them or is strong and talented as them.

When she saw his photo, she remembered that Arcurus went to the same school as her. He goes by the name Arcurus Solmar. He doesn't use any race name which is rare. Only people who have abandoned everything in life do that. And this guy clearly hadn't.

Lilith read his background which was sent a few seconds later. Maybe it took time to dig into one's past.

Arcurus was abandoned by his parents in one of the most lawless places in the Federation with a happy face. The couple was still living and even has new kids.

She felt a little sad for Arcurus but steeled her heart.

'It is for my friends!'

She consoled her self. She read the rest and came to know few fluorescent things.

Later Arcurus was known as the God of Gambling because he never lost in gambling. Every bet he placed was a certain win.

That interested Lilith. The four-eyed unimpressive guy next class was hiding such a past, earned a slight recognition from her. She decided that she will let him stay.

At the school, she noticed how desperately he tried to avoid them. He was likely shy. And Kaida will probably bully the poor guy a lot. She chuckled at the thought of that.

She tried to sleep but then suddenly, a thought struck her. The kind that pops up just before sleep and ruins it because it becomes too big too quickly to ignore.

'Who will be the party leader?'

She tried to toss that thought aside and sleep. Tomorrow was school. Although sleep was of little need to someone like her, she still does it out of habit.

But right now, she can't get that thought out of her head. So she quickly grabbed the artifact and asked the question, who will be the party leader?

The answer shocked and hurt her pride as the member of Valemire family. She wasn't the party leader, it was Arcurus Dragonis Xevrion.

She stared at the name, and asked a few more times to check if it was broken. But the answer was the same. She didn't doubt the authenticity of the answer because the artifact was given by her father. And Lilith knows that it will become true.

She slumped back with wide eyes and open mouth. This was probably the most exaggerated expression of her life.

'...'

She wasn't shocked because someone else was the leader. No, she was shocked because someone was better than her when she thought there was no rival for her.

She, who reached [Master] stage at 16 and was about to breakthrough to [Grandmaster] stage before 18 was hailed one of the greatest, if not the most talented individual of the world. But there was someone even better than her.

She couldn't understand how and why he would stay like that when he could pursue fame and recognition but instead chose solitary life and wasting his talent.

And most of all, the unfairness that could fall on them if Arcurus turned out to be an opportunistic person. Because the position of a party leader doesn't only signify greater talent than the rest of the members but also absolute authority within the party regarding distribution of resources.

The party leader can decide the distribution of Spiritual Energy and also command them during battle.

Party leader was also the most versatile role as well. The party leader can basically do anything while in battles and the other members will have to stick to their specific role.

The party leader can keep the distribution of Spiritual Energy to bare minimum for the other members and reap the maximum benefit without doing anything. And that infuriated her the most.

She could already see she and her friends doing all the work while Arcurus sat back and did nothing yet reaped the most benefits.

' I need to save them at all cost!'

She read about the type of people who like to hide their real self as opportunistic. They know to use every opportunity for their own benefit without caring for others.

'He must be like those people I read about in the fary tale books.' [1]

She already had this image of Arcurus in her mind that Arcurus was an opportunist. The thought that her fairy tale book might be wrong didn't cross her mind at all.

To her, those books were never wrong. So she decided to confront him and warn him. And also test his character. If he turned out to be the way she thought, then she will have to kill him.

'Maybe I should test his strength to see what the World Laws saw in his to assign the Leader role.'

She thought.

She can't kill him after formation of the Law Bound because it will give her massive karmic sin, because killing a teammate is taboo unless there is a valid reason.

The next morning she arrived at the school. The weather was cold the way she liked, but her insides were burning with resolve and determination to protect her friends' rights.

'Let's see what kind of guy this Arcurus is. If he is a decent person then good if not.. hmph.'

She thought as she stared at the school entrance. The car stopped.

She barely set foot in the school gate and saw a massive crowd which she came to get used to over time. But those seven annoying flies got on her nerves.

She was on an important mission to protect her friends but they blocked her. All the frustration bottled up for years poured into few but extremely harsh words.

Screaming wasn't her cup of tea. She liked to do things calmly. After dealing with the nuisance, she set out to find her target which was right next to her classroom.

'Wait for me, Arcurus. I will see what is so special about you.'

Her footsteps were filled with quiet resolve but to others it was like a cold Goddess on the verge of going mad.

[1] Don't ask what kind of book she reads.
