Chapter 4 - System

After searching for a while, he managed to find a long, rigid twig. But this twig alone wasn't enough if he wanted to impale these creatures.

He needed something to sharpen on this twig to use it as a spear.

He had seen spearfishing before on television. For some reason, he couldn't help but recall that survival expert guy.

"I bet he would be flourishing in such an environment if he's here," He mused as he thought about the survival expert guy he was used to seeing on the screen.

While searching, a flat stone caught his eye.

He picked the stone and ran his fingers through its jagged edge. The edge was sharp enough to tear skin. If polished more, it could even be used as a knife. He wanted to use it as a spearhead. However, he didn't have the means to do it.

Hence, he used it as a sharpening tool instead.

He began to scrape and shape the twig. Hours seemed to blur as wood curled away under the scraping edge. Even in such a chill environment, he was sweating profusely.

Shaping the twig was hard, but he continued to scrape it bit by bit.

His hands bled, but his focus didn't waver. He continued to sharpen the twig without stopping.

Finally, after a while, he held something like a spear. The tip of the twig had been sharpened enough to look like a spear.

"Finally…" Jack rejoiced as he held the tool in his hand. It had taken him hours of perseverance to carve it from scratch. His heart swelled with pride as his eyes glistened, and a bright smile bloomed on his face.

This feeling was as if he were holding a life-saving tool in this barren world.

Having spent a considerable time carving the twig, he couldn't jump into action. Hence, he sat down for a while before stepping into the water again.

This time, he was determined to get something to eat.

Determination flashed past his eyes as he locked eyes with the swarm of fish-like creatures. He led the creatures to the makeshift barrier. Upon leading the swarm into the entrapment, he paused and drew in a deep breath.

The world around him came to a halt as he locked his eyes on the biggest one.

Jake was aware that he wouldn't get a lot of chances. Hence, he had to utilize this chance to the fullest. Except impaling the creature, he couldn't think of anything else.

Then he tightened his grasp on the twig he held before launching it with ferocious power toward the creature he had his eyes locked on.

The spear darted down, tearing through the air like a missile.

Splash!

The water rippled with a violent splashing sound.

Unable to control himself, Jake yanked back, stumbling as water sprayed over him. Jake steadied himself as he looked into the distance where the twig was thrown.

There it was— the impaled creature writhing and struggling for its life. However, the twig had skewed it deep, preventing it from escaping.

Blood seeped out of the impaled area and mixed with the stream.

Jack's chest heaved. He stared at the creature, equal parts triumphant and shaken.

However, before he could rejoice in the kill, something flickered in the corner of his vision. This sudden change startled him, and he stumbled as a glowing square of light hovered in the air before him.

"What the hell…"

Jake's heart rate spiked at seeing this sudden change. What was this weird thing floating before him?

A part of him wanted to laugh. Another wanted to scream.

Instead, he steadied himself and stared at the screen. Having been an avid gamer during his younger years, he couldn't help but find this situation similar to a game. From the looks of it, the thing before him looked like an attribute panel.

'Did I enter a game?' He couldn't help but wonder.

He stretched his hands, attempting to touch the panel and observe it.

'I can touch it like a phone screen…'

Being able to touch the screen, he couldn't help but feel surprised. He didn't expect him to be able to touch the screen.

This further solidified his judgment that he had been transported to another world. If it were some remote places on earth, such stuff shouldn't be possible.

Upon realizing, he frowned.

Other people might find this revelation exciting, but not him. He knew that there was bound to be some dangers involved.

If he had gained game-like abilities, then there should be monsters and behemoths just like in the game. This meant that this world was far from safe. This made the survival even harder.

Jake's complexion paled as he pondered the dangers ahead. He couldn't bring himself to rejoice in the kill.

Ethan fiddled with the holographic map before him. He was in a confined space that looked like a chamber. There were giant pillars with intricate patterns carved around him. The space between the pillars was filled with countless star-like beads of different colors embedded in a dark space.

Ethan himself was seated on a huge throne-like chair. The chair looked intimidating and astonishing at the same time.

"So, I need to choose someone…" Ethan mumbled as he fiddled with the screen before him.

The screen displayed terrain of some sort, similar to a map. On the map, he could see different species of living entities. Some looked like animals he was used to seeing, while some seemed completely different.

In the bottom part of the screen, some words were floating while most of the screen was occupied by the map.

[Since you are an unknown God, you can select a single individual to spread your religion]

Unlike others, Ethan had already settled into this new reality. In this new reality, he had been assigned the role of God, responsible for leading a civilization from scratch.

However, even though he was a god in name, he couldn't exercise his powers, for he had none at the moment.
