Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Reeva, what made you break up with me right now? All I did was share some photos of us with my friends..."

A slap on his cheek left the handsome man dropping the key of his yellow Lamborghini next to her foot, he was staring at the ground with cold composure, he clenched his fists tightly.

"For God's sake, are you listening to yourself, Sensh? You shared our private, intimate moments with your trashy young friends! You gave no privacy to our relationship. I'm the one who made the mistake, I thought you were someone else... I'm starting to doubt you take our relationship seriously."

Her loud screaming caught the attention of passersby, and that was all he needed. If only she had accompanied him until the end of their high school graduation ceremony, and then broken up with him afterward, it wouldn't have affected him or his personality.

The rumors were circulating that Sensh Basu, the student president of Dvorik High School, had been dumped by his girlfriend. And because he was just scum.

"Did you have to make all this drama at our graduation ceremony? Did you want to make fun of me on our last day in school? You, of all people, know my standing and reputation among the students. Do you even realize who I am? I'm Sensh Basu — top of the class, every girl's dream. You should be grateful I chose you. Reeva, so you should have at least appreciated that... and left without a fuss."

Another slap landed, that made one of the girls standing there gasp loudly.

They had never seen the student president slapped by a girl, which was his own girlfriend. Their love story was legendary; they had been together since elementary school, and for them to break up like this, in front of everyone, was a shock that would have been etched deep into the hearts of those present.

"It's over between us, do you understand? I never want to see you again. You're dead to me!"

She screamed at him and walked away, with her head up, while tears welling in her eyes. He was her only childhood love, the one she'd given her heart to.

"How could he say that?! I was ready to go back to him and forgive what he did, just for us. But he still thinks what he did is normal! Damn..."

She muttered as she got into a taxi. Of course, she couldn't drive in this condition. Her apartment wasn't far from the school, so it didn't take long to arrive there.

"Damn... after everything I've done for him!"

She threw away all the expensive gifts of jewelry and stuffed animals dating back more than eight years, the love letters they'd exchanged, and the scented notes written on them saying how special she was to him.

Her heart sank like it was buried six feet under, as her fists tightened, her lips were still trembling... It was her love that accompanied her for more than eight years. She trusted him, every secret about her, he knew. She hadn't expected his speech to be so cold. He cared more about his reputation than her broken heart and emotions.

"Calm down, Reeva... Just for the feelings and beautiful moments you spent with him, you have to get over him..." she thought as she wiped away the last drops of tears, checking her phone as she sat outside, watching her memories with the love of her life flash before her eyes. She still felt the pain, still wishing he would come back and apologize. Maybe that would ease her pain.

She stared at her phone... He hadn't texted her, hadn't called her back. And what had she expected? Of course he wouldn't care.

A number of messages from her mother and her young sister... She turned off the phone and threw it by the fire. She wanted to get rid of anything that might have reminded her Sensh. To be truly in love with someone and suddenly discover that they don't reciprocate is cruel and unfair. That's how Reeva felt.

She took her phone and went back to the apartment. Her mother called. She knew she'd get in trouble if she didn't answer, so she put the phone on speakerphone and said, "Sorry, Mom. I've been busy making graduation arrangements…"

She heard her father's voice on the other end, just for her heart to freeze. Her father rarely visited them at home, coming once or three times a year. He was a prominent businessman, owning food companies throughout the city.

"Your ticket home has been booked. He wants to talk to you about an urgent matter. I told him I'm worried about you traveling alone, so..."

Her mother sighed. She seemed unable to speak as usual; her voice was cold, not at her full potential.

Her father had been against the idea of her attending high school in the capital, but her mother had barely managed to convince him to let her.

"Well, I wasn't going to stay here for more than a moment anyway."

Reeva replied, as if she were suffocating from the air of this place... the oxygen of this city.

"So I arranged a special flight for you with Adrian. He'll come pick you up this morning. The plane leaves at 9:00 a.m."

She hung up on her. She didn't understand why her father was taking an interest in her now. She wasn't their real daughter. They had taken her in after her biological parents died in a poisoning accident caused by a preservative overdose.

She couldn't deny that she was attached to them, but traveling with Adrian was something she hadn't expected. She muted her phone, then took the bottles of wine she'd bought a month earlier to celebrate their graduation together, she stood by the bin and threw them in.

"The last thing I want is to look like an idiot in front of Adrian..."

Reeva spoke in a nervous tone. It was Adrien, one of her mother's relatives. He was the pride and glory of the family, beloved by everyone. She had only met him at official events and from afar

The last time she saw him face to face was five years ago. She had forgotten what he looked like. All she remembered was that she would never fall in love... In her heart now, all young men were like that scum ex_boyfriend of hers.

"I don't want to end up like my mother… I don't want to be with a man who doesn't love me… I don't want to spend my life with a man who doesn't know the meaning of loyalty… I don't want to get married just because the situation calls for it…"

She muttered the words as she read her little sister's text, telling her that her father was planning to marry her to one of his friends' sons.

"Damn you, Sensh!"

She hissed his name.
