Tessa Eagle stared at Peter Parker with a look of intense curiosity.
Just last week, Peter was the quintessential nerd, with thick glasses, a skinny build, and a shy demeanor, always getting picked on at school. But in a single weekend, he'd changed. His stupid black-rimmed glasses were gone, and his eyes no longer held that timid look, but were instead filled with confidence.
"You know, when a monster possesses you, you get powerful for a short time, but before long, the monster sucks all your yang energy away, leaving you with nothing but a human skin!"
Peter Parker was bewildered. He'd only been bitten by a spider, and his body had fused with spider genes, giving him superhuman strength, balance, and reflexes.
This was his father's research, and it had nothing to do with monsters.
"No... no... I'm fine, Tessa. There's nothing wrong with my body."
Peter took two steps back, realizing that this popular girl seemed to have some issues.
"Hi, Parker, Tessa. I didn't expect you two to be so close."
A fashionable girl, looking quite similar to Tessa, held a stack of books and looked at them with a curious expression. It was Gwen Stacy, the daughter of the New York City Police Commissioner.
"Gwen! Parker is possessed by a monster!"
Tessa quickly grabbed Gwen's arm, pulling her away from Peter.
"Parker! Don't be afraid, I know a great... ahem... exorcist, and he'll cure you!"
Gwen Stacy's expression was a bit odd; she seemed to have misunderstood. Both girls were interning at the Osborn Group. Stacy was highly valued by Professor Connors, serving as the team leader for all the interns. After spending a long time together, she knew Tessa's personality very well.
Tessa, a girl from Texas, was obsessed with Eastern folklore and believed it wholeheartedly, never tiring of the topic.
Peter Parker clutched his head in pain. He'd had a crush on Gwen Stacy for a long time and certainly didn't want to distance himself from her for such a ridiculous reason.
"Come with me, I'll explain!"
He led Gwen Stacy and Tessa to a cafe and sat down. After gathering his thoughts, he explained the source of his powers to them.
"So, you snuck into the Osborn Group's lab that day to find information about your father? You're so bold, Peter. The Osborn Group's lawyers would bankrupt you and send you to jail!"
Gwen Stacy looked frightened.
"Isn't that Professor Connors' Cross-Species Gene Transplantation Project? It's unbelievable that a spider bite could fuse its genes with yours."
Tessa was disappointed that Peter Parker wasn't possessed by any kind of spirit.
"Because those spiders are my father's research. He seems to have transplanted his own genes into the spiders."
Because of their familial relationship, Peter Parker had almost no issues accepting the spider genes.
Gwen Stacy looked worried.
"You were too reckless, Peter. You shouldn't have revealed this secret so easily. The Osborn Group is pathologically interested in the Cross-Species Gene Transplantation Project, and you, you're a living experiment. If they find out, they won't let you go!"
She then turned to Tessa.
"Don't worry, Gwen, I definitely won't tell anyone about this!"
Tessa was quite reliable when not discussing monsters. After making her promise, she asked curiously:
"So, Parker, what are your superpowers? How much weight can you lift?"
Peter Parker scratched his head; he had already tested his powers when he first gained them.
"Uh, about two tons."
(A fully powered Spider-Man can lift 15-20 tons, but in the movie, Parker, who had just gained his powers, clearly hadn't fully developed his strength. Struggling to pull a ton of family car. Therefore, his current strength limit is set at around two tons.)
Tessa was disappointed.

"Indeed, Parker, your power is similar to that of an ordinary mutant. Don't use your abilities carelessly. If you encounter a terrifying figure like the Green Goblin, you'll be killed instantly!"
Because the Mexico City incident was broadcast live by the media and was very close to the United States, the Green Goblin had a very high profile among Americans.
Recent events in Mexico and Afghanistan had left the U.S. government's attitude toward superhumans ambiguous. But Gwen Stacy knew this wasn't a good thing.
