Chapter 155: NEXT PHASE BEGINS II

The grand hall thrummed with a restless energy, every noble and powerhouse riveted by Aaron's voice. Their faces glowed with raw excitement, eyes wide, pulses quickening at the rare promise of world domination. Aaron's presence dominated, a storm contained in human form, his every word a spark that set their ambitions ablaze. They leaned forward, hanging on his words, savoring the weight of his vision.

"From here on out, we conquer worlds," Aaron declared, voice cutting sharp through the hall's charged silence. He sat on his throne, a massive slab of obsidian etched with silver runes that pulsed with a faint, eerie glow, like stars trapped in stone. "No armies. No swarms of soldiers. I want elites. Lone warriors who shatter worlds to their knees. House Caelvorn runs point with me, coordinating every move. Only the strongest make the cut. Your job's dead simple. Hit the world, crush it, break its people. Prep it for me to devour, for me to turn them." His words landed like hammer blows, each one heavy with the promise of power, his calm exterior masking a fire that burned for dominion. The nobles stirred, their breaths shallow, minds racing with the glory of what lay ahead.

"Start prepping now," Aaron said, rising slow, his black cloak swirling like liquid shadow around him. The throne's runes dimmed as he stepped away, as if the stone itself bowed to his will, the air humming with faint arcane energy. "I pick who goes tomorrow." His orders were final, his thoughts already shifting to Alice, to the heavy truth of her father's fate. He'd killed Jay, the Frost Master, and now he had to face her. No dodging it. The council hung on his words a moment longer, then stirred, ready to scatter and prepare.

"Pardon, my Lord," Leonardo broke in, his voice sharp with excitement, eyes blazing like a forge. He stepped forward, robes brushing the stone floor, a craftsman's pride radiating from him. "We got a breakthrough in engineering. Could change the game for this conquest."

Aaron paused, one brow lifting, interest sparking in his dark eyes. "What you got?" he asked, voice low, a edge of curiosity cutting through.

"Portable spaceship," Leonardo said, chest puffing out, hands gesturing as if shaping the idea in the air. "Built for two, max. All about speed, nothing else. Stripped down since we got the sanctuary—rift back from anywhere, no hassle." His voice carried a craftsman's fervor, each word polished with pride.

He went on, eager. "Gives conquerors top speed, comfort for long hauls through the void. Sleek as hell, woven with camouflage tech to melt into the stars. Won't be spotted in the black of night." The hall buzzed softly, nobles exchanging glances, impressed by the ingenuity. The idea of sleek, hidden ships slicing through space stirred their blood, a tool fit for Aaron's elite.

Aaron's lips twitched, a faint smirk forming. "How many you made? Easy to run?" he asked, voice sharp, cutting through the murmurs like a blade.

"Control's so simple a kid could learn it in hours," Leonardo replied, confidence unshaken. "Built fifty so far, each one ready to go." His hands clasped together, a spark of triumph in his eyes, knowing his house had delivered.

"Perfect. Enough," Aaron said, nodding once, his approval clear as day. Leonardo's work proved him a true arch duke, his house's craft a cornerstone for the empire's plans. The air lightened, the promise of conquest now backed by tools to make it real, the nobles' excitement palpable as they envisioned worlds falling under their boots.

Aaron lingered after, the hall alive with voices. He spoke with nobles, their words a tangle of strategy, ambition, and eager planning. Torches flickered, casting long, wavering shadows across the stone walls, the air thick with the scent of wax and determination. Hours passed, plans solidifying, alliances tightening under Aaron's watchful eye. Finally, he called it, ending the council. The nobles dispersed, their steps echoing as they left to prepare, the hall falling quiet save for the crackle of dying flames.

---

Aaron led Alice through the castle's winding halls, their steps soft on the polished stone floors, the air cool and laced with the faint scent of ancient wood and candle wax. The corridors stretched long, lined with tapestries depicting battles of old, their colors muted but vivid in the dim light of enchanted sconces. They walked close, shoulders brushing, her presence a quiet anchor in the storm of his empire. Her laughter, soft and fleeting, warmed the moment, but the truth about her father sat heavy in his chest, a blade he couldn't avoid. He'd killed Jay, and now he had to tell her. No hiding, no cowering. Truth was the only way.

"Alice..." Aaron started, voice low, breaking the warmth like a crack in ice. "Your father picked the red ribbon." He didn't soften it. Truth cut cleaner, even if it bled. Hiding it would only fester, make the wound deeper.

Alice froze, her face a mask, a forced smile flickering like a dying flame. "I see," she said, voice barely a whisper, trembling on the edge of breaking. "Guess my advice didn't reach him." The smile cracked, pain seeping through, her eyes glistening with unshed tears in the soft light, reflecting the sconces' glow.

"Sorry," Aaron said, voice steady but not cold, his gaze holding hers. "Couldn't let him walk. Bias would crack the empire. It's a home for immortals, needs to stay solid. Showing him mercy? History wouldn't let that slide." He owed her the raw truth, no matter how it stung, his words heavy with the weight of his choice.

"It's fine," Alice said, voice soft, barely holding together as she fought back tears. "I get it. Really. But he was my father." Her words broke, a quiet sob slipping out, and Aaron pulled her close, arms wrapping tight around her. She sank into his chest, her warmth pressing against him, her pain raw and open in the quiet hall.

He stayed silent, letting her cry, her tears soaking the fabric of his tunic. The castle's stillness wrapped around them, the only sound her soft, shuddering sobs. He stood like stone, unmoving, giving her space to grieve, his own thoughts heavy with the cost of his actions. Her father's betrayal had forced his hand, but the fallout cut deeper than he'd expected.

Chapter 156: UPGRADED TALENT

Alice clung to him, her grip tight, fingers digging into his back as her emotions poured out unchecked. Her sobs shook her, each one a raw release of the hurt she'd buried. The hall's cool air seemed to grow heavier, the weight of her grief filling the space. Minutes stretched, feeling like hours, until her breathing steadied, her tears slowing to a trickle. She pulled back, eyes red but resolute, wiping her face with a trembling hand, her composure fighting to return.

"Do you hate me?" Aaron asked, voice low, searching her eyes for the truth, his own gaze steady but vulnerable for a fleeting moment.

"No," Alice said, voice soft but honest, her eyes meeting his despite the pain. "Just need time to deal. But no hate." Her words were clear, unwavering, and Aaron nodded, expecting that but needing to hear it, the knot in his chest loosening slightly.

"Maybe a new world helps," he said, voice gentle, offering a way forward. "Clear your head, find yourself again."

"I'm on the expedition?" Alice asked, surprise flashing across her face, eyes widening in the dim light. She hadn't thought Aaron would let her leave the sanctuary, figured he'd keep her safe within its walls, shielded from the dangers of conquest.

The idea of a new world, of conquest, sparked a flicker of excitement in her, despite the grief still clinging to her heart. "Why not?" Aaron said, a small smile tugging at his lips, his tone warm but firm. "You, me, Rose, Bluestar. Flameborn too. Time to bond as family. Been way too long."

"Bluestar?" Alice asked, brow creasing in brief confusion, her mind catching up as she processed the name.

"Seriously? You don't slow down?" she teased, a weak laugh breaking through her sorrow, a spark of her usual fire flickering back to life.

"Afraid not," Aaron replied, chuckling low, the sound warm in the quiet hall. They lingered, walking the corridors, talking lightly, the weight of their earlier talk easing with each step. The castle's ancient walls seemed to watch, their tapestries silent witnesses to their shared moment. Eventually, they parted, each to their unfinished tasks, the quiet settling back over the halls.

---

Aaron returned to his chamber, the heavy oak door closing with a soft thud behind him. Things were moving fast, a whirlwind of plans and power, and Aaron thrived in it. Slow life was death to him, growth too sluggish for his hunger.

"System," he muttered, a sleek, illusory card appearing in his hand, its surface shimmering with arcane runes that pulsed like a heartbeat. "Know what time it is?"

[No. Enlighten me, host,] the system replied, its voice a sharp mix of sarcasm and curiosity echoing in his mind.

"Simple. Time to rip you apart. Drain you till you beg," Aaron said, grinning wicked, holding the talent upgrade card like a loaded weapon. To him, it was the ultimate trump, a key to breaking the system's limits.

[Scary. Really think I'm scared of some lame card?] the system shot back, voice dripping with false bravado, but Aaron caught a flicker of unease beneath it, like a crack in its armor.

"Yes. Damn right I do. Upgrade my luck talent," Aaron announced, voice sharp, slamming the metaphorical hammer down.

Blink. Blink.

Aaron waited, eyes locked on the card, its faint glow casting shadows across his fingers. A minute dragged by. Nothing. No flash, no surge of power, no upgrade. Just dead silence. His grin faltered, confusion spiking, a cold knot forming in his gut. "Oi. You hear me? Upgrade my luck talent!" he yelled, voice echoing in the chamber, worry creeping in. Was the system playing him?

[Oh, sorry. Say something? Can't hear you,] the system replied, shameless, its tone thick with mock innocence. Aaron's jaw dropped, words failing him, stunned by the audacity.

"Sorry. Game over for you? Must be the alcohol," Aaron said, scrambling to recover, voice tight with forced calm, trying to wrestle control back.

[You're a hybrid primogenitor. Can't get drunk,] the system fired back, catching his bluff, its tone almost smug, reveling in the upper hand.

"Then the alcohol's real strong, cause I'm drunk," Aaron whistled, sweat beading on his brow, his mind racing. The system not using the card? That'd derail everything, shatter his plans like glass under a boot.

[Tsk. Watch your mouth. I got the carrot and stick. You? Just a body whore,] the system taunted, its words sharp, cutting deep.

"Sorry," Aaron gritted out, temper flaring, fists clenching as he fought to keep it in check. He had to play nice. The system held all the cards here, and he was at its mercy, a fact that burned like acid.

[Tsk. Want you for your body. Nothing else, cheap thing. But can't leave my bitch stranded,] the system said, voice cool and cutting, dragging out the jab.

Aaron's rage boiled, knuckles white, seconds from snapping, his mind flashing with images of strangling the system's voice out of existence, impossible as that was.

[Congratulations! SSS rank lucky halo upgraded to god rank talent, crown of luck,] the system announced, and Aaron's anger vanished, wiped clean like dust in a storm, replaced by a surge of triumph.

"Lucky bastard," Aaron muttered, grin splitting his face, all grudges forgotten as he scanned the new ability, eyes glued to the shimmering status screen hovering before him.

Chapter 448: The Truth About Father

After skimming through all the news, the girls finally came down to the hall, ready. Seeing them, Daniel smiled and stood up.

They got into the car and drove off to pick up the food. The destination wasn't far, and after collecting it, they decided to head to a nearby park to eat.

Daniel, like them, had ordered fried chicken. Sitting beside them, the three started eating together.

"This is so delicious! The best food in the world," Alice said happily while biting into a piece of chicken leg.

Tiana, her mouth stuffed, could only nod in agreement. Daniel chuckled but stayed quiet. He finished his food faster than both of them, and after the two girls were done as well, they walked around the park a little.

No one spoke, the silence filling the atmosphere and creating a strange feeling between them. Still, all three of them were enjoying it.

"Anyway, brother, are you coming to my guild tomorrow?" Alice suddenly asked, as if she had just remembered something.

"Oh? Did something special happen?"

"Tomorrow there's an internal competition among the new members to update the rankings. We can even bring spectators. Plus, my teacher wants to see you."

"Your teacher?" A glint flashed in Daniel's eyes, and the image of a beautiful woman surfaced in his mind. He didn't know why that woman wanted to see him.

Could it be because of the request she had made of him before? A few months ago, that woman had asked him to join the Fallen Sun guild, but Daniel hadn't given her a definite answer and just said he would think about it.

Now that he thought about it, he realized he hadn't seen her since then and had never given her a reply. Maybe that was the reason she wanted to meet him.

"No problem, I'll come with you guys," he looked at the two girls staring at him expectantly and said with a smile.

"You're the best brother in the world!" Alice said with joy, hugging her brother's arm. She had already asked her mother before, but Liana told her she couldn't come.

So, Alice decided to ask her brother as well, though she didn't have much hope, especially since she knew her brother had planned to go into seclusion tomorrow.

But fortunately, he agreed. As for the request her teacher had made, in Alice's eyes it wasn't anything important anyway, and even her teacher had said it was only if he had time.

Daniel gently patted his sister's head. After walking a little more, they headed back to the car and drove home.

Both girls greeted Liana and then went straight to their rooms. They were exhausted and needed proper rest to be ready for tomorrow.

"Where did you guys go?" Liana asked when she saw her son sit on the couch.

"They were hungry after training, so I took them out to eat," Daniel replied lazily.

"Ugh, how many times have I told you all to learn how to cook? But you never listen. You can't even make something for yourselves," Liana mocked as she sat across from her son.

The atmosphere fell silent. Liana peeled fruit, occasionally giving Daniel a piece, but neither of them spoke.

Daniel actually wanted to bring up something important with his mother, but he didn't know how to start. Looking at his mother, who seemed so carefree, made him hesitate even more.

In the end, he sighed. He didn't want to delay this anymore.

"Mom, where's Dad?"

Liana, who had been peeling fruit, dropped the knife when she heard her son's sudden words. For a moment, it felt like lightning struck her.

She raised her head, eyes trembling, full of disbelief and questions, and asked in a shaky voice:

"Why are you asking that all of a sudden?"

"Ever since I can remember, Father has never been with us. Every time I ask if he's dead, you say no. If I ask if he abandoned us, you angrily say no. But you've never explained where he really is, only saying it's dangerous to know. " Daniel sighed and continued.

"But now I've grown stronger. Really strong. I think I deserve to know where my father is and what really happened to him."

Hearing the serious and firm tone of her son, Liana sighed. He was right. He had the right to know where his father was.

But the problem was—should she really tell him the truth? She knew her son. A madman who dosen't fear death and is willing to run headfirst into it if it meant reaching his goal.

Still, she didn't want to keep hiding it anymore... maybe it was time to finally tell him the truth.

"If you don't want to say anything, it's fine. I'll listen whenever you're ready," Daniel said quickly, seeing his mother on the verge of tears.

"No... I think it's time you hear the truth." Liana let out a long breath and steadied herself.

"Your father is a very special and powerful man. He was one of the strongest humans, a man who managed to reach the tenth floor of the Tower."

Daniel's eyes widened at those words. A man who reached the tenth floor of the Tower? Wasn't that basically a demigod? Did that mean his father was actually a demigod?

"We are not originally from this country. But before your father disappeared, he told me we needed to move here for safety. That's why we don't have any relatives in this country—because we're not from here." Liana paused for a moment, then continued.

"I don't know where your father is. No one does. One day, his loyal subordinates came and told me my husband had vanished, most likely dead. And even if he isn't dead, then he must be trapped somewhere, barely clinging to life." Tears slowly slid down her cheeks.

"I knew he had a plan—a plan to conquer the tenth floor. But I never knew what it was. He never told me. All he said was that he might never return."

"And that's exactly what happened. He left and never came back. What's worse is that all records and traces of him were erased. It was as if someone deliberately tried to erase him from everyone's memory... and in the end, he really was erased."

Memory erasure. That sounded terrifying. To erase memories about a demigod... only another demigod could do something like that.

Daniel frowned. Who exactly was his father? And where had he gone that he couldn't return from? He was caught between shock, awe, and confusion.

His questions kept piling up.

"Still, I'm sure my husband is alive. Because the symbol of our love still shines." Liana stopped crying and looked at the ring on her finger as she spoke.

Chapter 449: The Truth About Father II

Daniel had so many questions he wanted to ask, but he didn't even know where to start. His mind was in complete chaos, and he couldn't even think straight.

He had always imagined different things about his father—both positive and negative. He thought the reason his mother never talked about their father to him or Alice was because she didn't want them to be sad.

But now that he had learned the truth, he couldn't even feel properly shocked or amazed. He didn't know what kind of reaction or emotions he should have right now.

Who could have imagined that his father was a demi-god? A demi-god—two simple words, but words that carried a massive weight.

A demi-god was the ceiling of power in the world, beings who could practically be considered half-immortal. Most likely, unless a true god appeared, nobody would ever be able to kill them.

A ruler who reigned over the world itself—and his father was that kind of person? Then what happened to him? Where did he go? And why was there absolutely no knowledge or public record about his father anywhere?

All the currently known demi-gods in this world were members of the Guardian Council, and every single demi-god in this world was still alive—none of them had ever died.

"So all information about father was erased?" Daniel sighed and turned to his mother.

"It seems that way. A day after his death, everything about him vanished, and everyone forgot him. Even my own family forgot him. The entire world forgot the first man who ever reached the tenth floor of the Tower, and it felt like their memories were rewritten." Liana spoke with a trace of sorrow.

And it wasn't only her words—his father's loyal subordinates had told her the same thing. At that time, she herself had wanted to meet the other demi-gods and ask them about her husband.

She was sure that if anyone was responsible for rewriting the memories of the world, it could only have been the other demi-gods.

They had surely coveted her husband's greatest treasure—the one he received as a reward for being the first to conquer the ninth floor.

Hearing his mother's words, Daniel frowned even more deeply. Memory rewriting was a power that definitely only demi-gods could possess. They might have even used some kind of artifact for it.

But even if the demi-gods of this world managed to rewrite everyone's memories, they shouldn't have been able to do the same in the Celestial Domain.

The Celestial Domain was a completely different world, and he was certain that the demi-gods of the Celestial Domain would never allow outsiders to rewrite the memories of their people.

That meant he might actually be able to find traces of his father in the Celestial Domain. Maybe he could even uncover more information there.

But there was still a problem: if all memories had been rewritten, then how was his mother still able to remember?

"Mom, how do you still remember father?"

Liana froze for a second at her son's words. But then, a faint smile appeared on her face, and her gaze fell on the wedding ring on her finger.

"It's because of this ring. Even though it looks simple, it carries a fragment of your father's power. It protected me from having my memories rewritten, and it will also save me whenever I face a life-or-death situation."

"Looks like father really loved you. He didn't even give something like that to his own kids." Daniel chuckled, clearly joking.

"In fact, he did give something like that to Alice too—a bracelet with the same kind of power. But he told me to give it to her only when she turns eighteen." Liana admitted, sounding a little guilty.

"He gave one to Alice too? But not to me? Maybe I'm not your real son, and you just adopted me?" Daniel said with a smirk.

"Don't say something like that!" Liana suddenly snapped, her voice sharp with anger.

"Alright, alright, my mistake." Daniel smiled, trying to calm his mother down.

"I also asked your father back then why he didn't prepare something like that for our son. He told me that Daniel would never need it."

"I see. Seems like father knew quite a lot." A small grin appeared on Daniel's face. It really looked like his father knew things about his future.

And his instincts told him that his father probably even knew things about his bloodline. But that only raised more questions for him.

Even so, he knew those questions were ones he would have to ask his father directly, not his mother. But there were still things he needed to ask her.

"What happened to father's subordinates? Did they forget everything too?"

"I don't know. It's been a very long time since I last saw them. But I think your father might have given them things like this too, to protect themselves. Most likely, they've just gone into hiding." Liana paused a bit before continuing.

"If you really want to find your father, the first thing you should do is find his subordinates. They're the ones who will know better than anyone what actually happened to him."

Daniel nodded. That thought had crossed his own mind too, but he had no idea where to even begin, especially since his father's subordinates might have gone into hiding.

There were also other dangers—like the possibility that his father's enemies would notice him and come after him.

He still couldn't understand why his father's enemies had left him, his mother, and his sister alone. Wouldn't it have been safer to just wipe out the family of their greatest enemy completely?

Yet, for some reason, they had been spared. Now, though, he worried that if he started searching for his father's subordinates, he would inevitably draw the attention of his father's enemies—enemies who were likely demi-gods themselves.

And even though he trusted in his own strength, there was no way he could win against a demi-god. He'd be crushed in a single second.

But then there was an even more important question:

"Why did the other demi-gods become enemies with father?" He turned and looked at his mother as he asked.

Chapter 450: The Truth About Father III

Daniel wanted to know what exactly had made the other demi-gods turn against his father. Was it just a matter of power? He didn't think so.

Even if it was only about who had been the first to conquer the ninth floor, he still didn't feel that was enough reason to make several demi-gods become enemies at once.

The power of demi-gods was on a completely different dimension compared to all other Awakened. They couldn't even really be considered mortal anymore.

Their way of existence and life had reached an extraordinary and incomprehensible level. Beings like that wouldn't get involved unless it was absolutely necessary—at least to preserve the balance of power.

"According to what your father himself said, it was because of an item. The item he received as a reward for being the first to conquer the ninth floor," Liana thought for a moment before answering.

"Just one item made the other demi-gods turn against him? How powerful could this item be?" Daniel frowned.

"I don't know either. But he said that item could save humanity and the entire world from disaster," she replied with some sadness.

If it hadn't been for that cursed item, her husband would still be with her now, and she wouldn't have had to desperately flee her home with her children and end up in a foreign country.

"An item that could save the world?" Daniel raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise and muttered to himself.

"Do you know what it looks like? Or where it might be?"

"No. Your father was extremely cautious about it. He said it might be able to save the world, but it could also destroy it. That's why he never let anyone touch it... not even me."

Daniel fell into thought. A few guesses crossed his mind, but without more information, he couldn't confirm or deny any of them.

Even reasoning properly wasn't possible. Bit by bit, he was coming to the conclusion that he really had to search for his father's subordinates.

But where was he supposed to start looking for them?

"Mother, which country are we actually from? Where is our real home?"

Liana fell silent at her son's words. This time, unlike before, she didn't answer right away. She seemed torn, hesitant.

At last, she sighed.

"For now, I can't tell you. You're still too weak to know." She knew how powerful her son had become. Even though she hadn't seen him fight, she could feel it from his aura.

Daniel always tried to hide his aura in front of his family, but that oppressive, commanding feeling that leaked out couldn't be concealed.

That alone was enough for her to understand how strong he had grown. But in her eyes, it still wasn't enough. The time hadn't come yet.

"I understand." Daniel didn't push further. He also knew that at the moment, he couldn't even match up to rank S Awakened, let alone anything above that.

'When I conquer the fourth floor... no, the fifth floor, I'll ask this question again.' He was confident that once he conquered the fifth floor, he would be strong enough to fight even against National Rank Awakened.

After that, Liana said goodnight and went to her room. He didn't stop his mother. After saying goodnight, he returned to his own room.

He collapsed onto his bed, and before fully falling asleep, he sank into thought. The revelations from today had truly shaken him.

Sometimes he wondered if his father was actually a powerful man, but every time he thought about the fact that they lived in a small city, he convinced himself that it wasn't possible.

But now it was clear he had been foolish. His father had been a man standing at the very peak of the world's power, the very first person to conquer the ninth floor of the Tower.

His motivation to find his father had only grown stronger. Only by finding that man could he get the answers he sought. He even felt that his father must know something about his bloodline.

He closed his eyes and slowly drifted into sleep. Time passed, and eventually morning arrived, with the sunlight gently waking him up.

After waking, he went to his wardrobe, grabbed a random set of clothes, and put them on. Then he went downstairs, where he saw the girls sitting at the breakfast table.

"Don't you think you're waking up a bit too early?" he asked sarcastically as he sat down on an empty chair.

"Or maybe you just sleep too much?" Alice mocked while putting a piece of bread in her mouth.

"It's only nine in the morning. You should know sleep is really important." Daniel replied seriously. In fact, he had adjusted the curtains in his room to automatically open at nine and let the sunlight wake him up.

"Eat your breakfast and don't set a bad example for the kids," Liana glanced at her son and said.

He raised his hands in mock surrender and began eating his breakfast. After finishing, before the others got up, he looked at them.

"After the competition at your guild ends today, I plan to go into seclusion. I'll probably be gone for two or three days."

All three of them nodded without saying anything. They were already used to it, though it still made them miss him every time.

"When do we need to be at the guild?" Daniel then looked at Alice and Tiana and asked.

"We need to be there in half an hour."

"Then go get ready so we can leave."

The girls went to their rooms and returned five minutes later, dressed in elegant clothes. After saying goodbye to Liana, they went to the car.

Their house was about fifteen minutes away from the Fallen Sun guild. To make sure they wouldn't be late, Daniel had to drive a little faster than usual.

Fortunately, there was no traffic, so they covered the distance in seven minutes and arrived at their destination. He parked in the lot and they entered the guild's main building.

"Not bad. I didn't expect your guild to have such a cool building," Daniel said with some surprise as he looked at it.

Unlike all the other buildings he had seen, this one was built in a spherical shape. More precisely, it was obvious that the design was inspired by the sun.

The interior was also stylish and luxurious, built with the best available materials for tiling and design.

"Of course! What did you expect?" Alice puffed out her chest proudly.

"Well, anyway, where do we need to go now? Where's this competition happening exactly?"

"First, the two of us need to go and register. The competition takes place inside a pocket dimension, a space used as a training and competition ground for Awakened." Tiana explained.

Daniel stayed silent. Why did he feel like this Fallen Sun guild was way better than the Everlight guild? Not only was their building more beautiful, but they also used a pocket dimension as a training ground.

Why didn't their guild have something like this?

It felt kind of wrong that the stronger a guild was, the wealthier it would also be.

Though he was sure their guild had to be wealthier... right?

Chapter 451: The Sun Spring

After the girls went to register, Daniel also asked a few of the staff there and finally found the way to enter the pocket dimension.

It turned out that the guild members who were participating in the competition and the spectators couldn't enter together, and their entry routes were different.

Before stepping into the pocket dimension, he waited a bit so he could tell Alice and Tiana and give them some advice. He also didn't forget to glance around at the others who were participating.

Naturally, the power level of all the participants was only rank F, and with a simple look Daniel could easily understand why his two sisters didn't like training inside the guild.

Compared to those two girls, these people were really way too weak. You could say the difference was like heaven and earth, as if first and second place had already been decided.

"Brother, we registered," a beautiful feminine voice suddenly pulled him out of his thoughts.

"Good. From what I found out, it seems the spectators' entry route is different from the participants'."

"That's right, the person at the registration desk told us that," Tiana nodded.

"So we'll have to split up here. I'll see you after the competition," Daniel patted both their heads.

"Ah, brother, don't you have any advice or something like that to tell us?" Alice asked shyly, her cheeks slightly red.

Doing something like that in public was really embarrassing for her. Even though she wanted to brush it off, she also didn't want to embarrass her brother either.

Besides, if she made him angry, he might beat her up later, so it was better to just endure it for now.

"I was planning to give you a few pointers, but after seeing the other participants and your so-called rivals, I changed my mind. Winning will be easy for you."

Tiana and Alice both nodded, and then the three of them said temporary goodbyes. The two girls went to the right, and seeing them, Daniel headed into the hallway on the left.

The hallway was crowded, filled with a large number of spectators. He calmly got in line at the entrance and waited for his turn.

From where he was standing, he could see that everyone was searched one by one, and after a body check they were allowed to pass through a portal that connected this building to the pocket dimension.

It took about twenty minutes until it was his turn. The guard frisked him, checking every part of his body, and then used a magic item just to be sure.

Then the guard handed him a ring and told him to put it on his finger. Once he did, he suddenly felt his connection to his inventory vanish.

With a frown, he tried to open his inventory again, but it didn't work. Now he understood what the ring was for.

The guard stepped aside and allowed him to enter the portal. Daniel, even though he wasn't happy about the situation, decided not to say anything and calmly walked toward the portal and stepped in.

For a moment the world around him went black, and when his vision returned, he found himself on a spectator platform filled with many seats. The platforms surrounded all four sides, somewhat like a football stadium.

In the middle was a battle arena that seemed to be isolated and protected by arrays. He looked around and sat down randomly on one of the empty seats.

After all, no one had given him a seat number, and there weren't any seat numbers on the chairs either.

Clearly, anyone could just sit wherever they wanted if it was empty. It didn't take long before all the seats around him filled up.

There were a lot of spectators, and those sitting in the first and second rows were clearly higher-ranking members of the Fallen Sun guild itself.

He scanned the place with his eyes, trying to use his spiritual sense, but realized it was blocked and unusable.

He sighed. It seemed the Fallen Sun guild was way too paranoid. What exactly was the meaning behind this level of security?

Not only were the Awakened spectators unable to use their inventories, even their spiritual senses were blocked as well.

To be sure, he tried circulating different types of energy in his body, and fortunately, he could still use mana and mana essence.

While he was checking his body, suddenly a middle-aged man wearing a red robe appeared in the sky.

"Greetings to all the honored guests who have come today to watch the first-term competition of the Fallen Sun guild." His booming voice echoed across the space.

"Today, we will witness more than a hundred one-on-one matches between newly Awakened members. We'll see how much they've progressed and whether they are worthy of promotion or not." He smiled, his gaze shifting toward the first row of seats.

"We would also like to thank the high-ranking staff of the guild for honoring us by serving as the judges for this round of matches."

"As many of you know, the fights will be chosen randomly and then proceed according to a bracket chart.

"The matches will continue until the top three places are decided... As for the rewards, the top ten will all receive a rank promotion, advancing from a Newborn Sun to a Young Sun."

"The top three will each receive a rank B item of their choice. And most importantly, the first-place winner will be able to enter the Sun Spring and temper their body and soul."

The moment his words rang out, shock and amazement spread across the faces of all the spectators.

It was clear none of them had expected such a reward for first place, and murmurs began to rise all around.

The middle-aged man, as if he had anticipated the reaction, continued with a smile.

"This year some changes have been made, and the guild leader has decided that the champion should be sent to the Sun Spring. As for the reason, the guild leader will personally explain it later."

"The Sun Spring? I never thought they'd allow a new Awakened to enter such a place."

"Right? I thought only rank S and top elites were ever allowed in there."

"What exactly happened for the Fallen Sun guild to become this generous? Maybe they have another plan."

While everyone was busy talking and trying to figure out the guild's intentions, Daniel turned his empty gaze toward a beautiful woman who forcefully cleared the seat beside him and sat down.

"Lady Selenia, it's been a while since I last saw you."

Chapter 338: DEVOUR!

Vritra ran at full speed, pushing his body to the limits even if his skin got torn or veins burst, using all the skills to boost himself.

He moved so fast that even the trees around him got destroyed, leaving a deep narrow lane on the ground.

Uncontrollable rage burst out of his body, his suppressed aura breaking out as the creatures in dozens of kilometers radius became silent and hid.

Whatever came in front of Vritra was destroyed, whether it be rocks or trees.

When he had covered half the distance, he heard the sound of the abominations, and he understood why the forest was so empty.

It seemed Bone Blood Cult had somehow directed those abominations towards the town.

He swore to give those cultists the most ugly death and wipe Bone Blood Cult off completely, but before that, he needed to cleanse this realm of each and every abomination.

Vritra crossed the large distance within a minute, and by the time he arrived near the town, he could clearly hear the loud banging sounds and those twisted roars along with the faint and helpless footsteps of his Yennifer.

Stomping the ground with all his strength, Vritra's body rose high into the air and with his nether eye, he scanned the entire town.

"!!!" The moment he saw Yennifer's injured and bloodied body, resting against the wall and barely conscious, the surroundings exploded with bloodlust creating an atmosphere similar to the bloody mist in the forest.

'Forbid: When I kick the air is solid.'

[Forbidden Activated.]

Vritra twisted his body in the air, facing the direction of the town hall as he pulled his feet slightly and then kicked the air, his body shooting forward like a rocket.

Right when the blade-like teeth of the abominations were about to crush her body, Vritra smashed himself into them.

His hands moved at extreme speed as he punched the limbs approaching Yennifer.

BOOOOOOM!!

A wave of air blew around, more than dozens of the abominations were pushed back, their teeth covered in Vritra's fresh blood.

Yennifer's body jerked as something warm dripped onto her face, she slowly opened her eyes and saw his broad back, facing all the abominations and alone standing in the way to protect her.

"..." For a few seconds, she was just speechless and couldn't think of anything, just staring at Vritra's back, her heart thumping loudly but not because of fear.

But then her eyes widened as she saw the countless severe wounds covering his body, his body swayed slightly, his hands trembling as he pulled two long knives out of nowhere.

"H- Husband..."

For a moment, it was as if everything had disappeared and only the two of them existed, she was sure that he had rushed back to protect her despite his injuries.

Yennifer felt even more pained, wanting to protect him, to relieve him of the pain he must be feeling but she felt utterly powerless.

"I... haa am fine, go inside." Vritra muttered without turning, he wiped the blood off his eyes and steadied his body.

Before the empress could say anything, Vritra muttered:

"Forbid: the air of the town becomes solid for all abominations."

[Forbidden Activated.]

Instantly the abominations who were ready to charge again at Vritra were frozen, even the hundreds of the abominations which were rushing towards the town hall, all of them froze as if they were stuck.

Vritra turned, then he gently grabbed her hand before pulling Yennifer to her feet.

Yennifer could feel the warmth of his blood as he gripped her hand, she wanted to speak but Vritra just pulled her towards the door.

He grabbed the knob and with a gentle push the entire door came off, then he pushed her inside and spoke: "Rest inside, I will be back in a few minutes."

"W- Wait just come inside with me-" Yennifer tried to speak but she didn't know, now that the door of this place was broken, the sort of barrier had broken so this was no longer safe.

Vritra ignored her words and muttered: "Forbid: Poison."

[Forbidden Activated.]

The sight of her injuries, the blackening of her skin due to poison, all of it only fuelled his rage.

Then he struck the door back into its place, locking it there using a couple of his knives.

Finally, he turned around and gazed at the creatures who were starting to get free already.

"Forbid: the entire town is a prison, they can enter but can't leave."

[Forbidden Activated.]

The air once again became normal while the entire town was locked up, and it wouldn't be easy for the abominations to leave, not that he was going to just let them leave.

Turning to face the countless creatures, Vritra took a deep breath, his body was already very exhausted and each breath made his throat and chest burn.

He would kill as many as he could within a single breath and then take a brief rest.

GRRRRRAAAAAAHHHH!!

ROOOAAAARRRRRRRR!!

KRRRIIIEEEEEEEKKKKK!!

All the abominations let out terrifying screams as they rushed at Vritra, crowding him and throwing all sorts of attacks at him.

[Shift Activated.]

Vritra pushed all his stats to strength, planning to go all out and with brute force, tear them apart.

With his strength at the initial levels of the 3rd Legion rank, he could kill two or three abominations at the same time without much difficulty but facing so many in his condition was still very difficult.

BANG

CLANG CLANG

As the battle broke out, Vritra threw the two long knives at the bodies of the two creatures with all his might, while jumping high and kicking the head of one of them.

As the creature was pushed back, Vritra landed close to one of the stabbed abominations, he gripped the blade's handle and easily tore the skin, before plunging his hand into its chest and pulling its heart out.

'DEVOUR!!'

Vritra let out a loud battle cry in his mind, not waiting for a moment and moving his body as fast as he could, delivering punches and kicks to any creature that came close.

Whenever the abominations struck any of the buildings, they ended up colliding with some sort of invisible barrier, stopping them and making their bodies burn.

Vritra dodged the attacks he could, parried the others he couldn't and allowed few to land on his body only to deliver several times the damage in return.

A bloody scene broke out as the entire town was filled with deafening battle sounds, everyone shivered in their houses, feeling as if the end of the town was coming closer.

DEVOUR! DEVOUR! DEVOUR! DEVOUR! DEVOUR!

Vritra swung the big knives as he slashed off the long feet of an abomination and jumped towards its neck, with just his nether eye he could already guess the exact locations of their hearts.

Along with his level these skills also grew after all.

Vritra, panting heavily, gripped the sharp teeth around the neck of the abomination and ripped them apart, taking out its heart.

Another deep cut appeared on his back, but Vritra retorted with even more force, tearing one of the creatures in half with his bare hand.

He ignored the messages that kept popping up but his strength was undoubtedly increasing with each creature he killed.

Vritra slowly dragged the crowd away from the town hall, it was like he had returned to that cave where he had to face countless demons.

Chapter 339: Speed Run

The entire town was filled with the sound of battle for the entire night, everyone hid in the deepest corner of their houses, praying to survive this frightening night.

No one knew exactly what was happening, but they could clearly feel the tremors that made their houses shake, hearing the continuous terrifying and twisted screams of the abominations.

Yennifer's face was pale, she stood close to the window, trying to faintly see the battle in the distance.

Thankfully, Vritra had stopped the poison from spreading in her body, but she still felt quite weak.

She could barely see lots of big shadows in the distance that kept disappearing one after the other.

Her gaze searched for Vritra but he had disappeared in the crowd of abominations.

...

From a bit after nine, the battle continued on for hours, the explosive noises only intensified as more time passed.

At one point Yennifer's body gave up and she fell unconscious for a while, waking up nearly five hours later, when the darkness had started to recede and the sound of battle had disappeared.

Now not a single abomination could be seen or heard in the town. Maybe since the morning arrived, they ran away.

Yennifer just wanted to go out and check up on him, but when she tried, she was unable to open the door.

Even the windows were covered by metallic bars, locking her inside the town hall.

She called for help and continued to pull the door. After a while, when the sky had brightened up, a few people finally had the courage to leave their houses.

Some of the men opened the door after removing the knives with some difficulty.

"A- Are you alright?"

One of the men asked, staring in shock at Yennifer's face.

Since her veil was missing, her beautiful face was clearly visible, though it was covered by blood and dirt.

The empress ignored them all as she ran out of there, rushing towards the area where the battle had taken place.

More and more people started to come out, and they were just baffled by the scene.

Vritra was lying on top of a soft bed made of dead insects, countless of them.

His body was covered by way too many wounds and completely bloodied.

"H- Husband...!!"

Yennifer muttered, pausing as she saw Vritra's leg hanging down from the high bed.

She didn't even know if he was alive or not.

Mark looked at the countless dead insects.

After slight hesitation, he climbed onto the top and checked Vritra's condition, and he was shocked to find that despite so many serious wounds...

"H- He is just sleeping." He spoke in shock.

By now most of the town had gathered there but they couldn't understand what exactly had happened.

They wondered if Vritra really survived a night outside all by himself, but then what were all these insects?

"Oh!!" The empress was overjoyed hearing that, but her heart ached nonetheless, seeing those injuries.

She had never wanted to slaughter the Bone Blood Cult this badly in her life.

Vritra was quickly brought back to a different home.

Yennifer removed his bloodied clothes and then applied medicine carefully to all his wounds, bandaging his entire body with clean clothes.

He slept for the entire day, then the whole night, and finally woke up later in the morning the next day.

'Haa, where am I?' Vritra thought as he slowly opened his eyes and saw a different ceiling. Slowly the memories of his fight returned.

His body was so exhausted and wounded that near the end of the battle, he didn't even know what he was doing, but his body kept moving on autopilot.

'Ughh, I still feel so tired, but the pain has mostly gone away by now.' Checking his body's condition, Vritra was relieved.

All his wounds would be healed within a day or two.

He felt a slight weight on top of his body. Glancing down, he saw Yennifer's slender arm resting over his chest while she slept beside him.

Her hair were a bit messy, but she just looked more beautiful.

She seemed perfectly fine now, the poison had completely disappeared and only a few scratches were left.

'I killed quite a lot of abominations previously, I wonder how much my level has increased.' Vritra thought and glanced at the notifications.

{You have cleansed one Red RipMaw!!}

{You have cleansed one Red RipMaw!!}

{You have cleansed one Red RipMaw!!}

...

{You have absorbed the Red Sin Coin.}

{You have absorbed the Red Sin Coin.}

{You have absorbed the Red Sin Coin.}

...

{You have levelled up.}

{You have levelled up.}

{You have levelled up.}

...

{Sin Coin → 957/2500}

{Evolution in process...}

Vritra read the messages.

He had killed more than seven hundred abominations in just one night, and now his level should be around 3,760.

That was such a big leap. In the outside world, increasing each level is so difficult, but because of the sin coins it was like Vritra was doing a speed run.

'Looks like my self-healing ability has also increased, but I had taken too much damage.

Now it won't be long before I find a way out. I hope mom and the others are fine.' Vritra thought. He called out to Yasmine but received no response.

He was really missing the constant teasing and advice of his dragon waifu.

Yennifer woke up again to check up on Vritra, but seeing that he was awake, she was overjoyed.

"Vritra, you are finally awake!! I- I was so worried. Do your wounds still hurt? Are you—"

In worry, the empress began to ask one question after another, but Vritra kissed her soft lips and silenced her.

"I am fine now, don't worry. These wounds will heal quickly." He added and pulled her into his arms.

"..." The empress was silent for a few seconds, just loving being so close to him.

She didn't care about anything else and was just happy that he was fine.

"It was those Bone Blood Cultists, right?" Vritra asked, his expression changing.

"Yeah, I did see one. One of the members first pretended to be you, even copying your voice and using your real name." Yennifer replied, not bothered by the smell of medicines.

"Looks like I will have to clean them up first." Vritra mumbled. He was sure that it wasn't a coincidence that they chose to attack exactly when he was not home.

So, they most probably knew that he had killed abominations, which meant they had seen Vritra fight before and it greatly narrowed the search area.

"Just rest for now. Those cultists must have obtained something special here, which allowed them to move in the night and even attract so many abominations.

They could even talk to their organisation easily." Yennifer said. Revenge could be taken later, but first Vritra needed to get enough rest.

Suddenly a loud shout rang out from outside.

"What the fuck are you talking about? There is no way we could do that."

Vritra and Yennifer looked at one another. This enraged voice clearly belonged to Chopper.

"Let's go check it." Vritra said as he pushed his body up with some difficulty.

"No, just rest, I will go—" Yennifer tried to stop him but Vritra sat up.

"As I said, I am feeling better now." He said.

Chapter 340: Barking

With Yennefer's help, Vritra walked towards the entrance of their new home.

Opening the door, they found that most of the people of the town were gathered outside and two groups seemed to have formed.

On one side was Chopper with the smaller group and on the other side a young man seemed to be the leader of the group.

Both the sides seemed to be in a heated discussion, clearing his throat, Vritra asked: "Chopper, what's going on here?"

"Oh you are awake, what are you doing out here? Go inside, you need to rest." Chopper said, not wanting him to hear anything.

"Just tell us, what is going on?" Yennefer said with a frown, feeling so many unfriendly gazes focused on her.

"Hmph, he won't say anything, let me tell you." The guy from the other group with a big beard stepped forward and said in a loud voice, as if declaring some new law:

"We have just received a threat from the Bone Blood Cult, that if you stay in this town then they will kill all the residents, using those abominations.

So, you have to leave, I don't know or care where you two live but you can't stay here any longer."

"..." Vritra looked around and soon saw the message written on the town hall in big letters, they wanted Yennefer to leave the protection of the town.

"Yes you have to leave, or do you want everyone in the town to die because of you?"

"Throw them out of the town, the Bone Blood Cult has become more active ever since they arrived."

"How can you say that? What is the guarantee that they won't do it after they left?

What if those cultists want any of you to leave next time?!!" Chopper spoke in rage.

But most of the people wanted the empress and Vritra to leave.

"..." Yennefer was silent, not sure what to say. She didn't really care about these people, but couldn't just ignore them right now.

Vritra lightly tapped over Yennefer's arm, taking a step forward.

He stretched slightly and then straightened, he wasn't wearing a shirt since his upper body was covered by bandages.

Yennefer stared at his back, feeling butterflies in her belly, as she remembered the scene when he stood in front of hundreds of abominations.

He looked so hot, shaking her head she brought herself back to the present.

Vritra walked towards the bearded guy, pausing in front of him, he spoke: "And how are you going to make us leave? By barking outside our house?"

"What?!!" the bearded guy was shocked at first, he looked Vritra up and down and laughed.

"Do you want to die? Go and hide inside the house, if I sneeze too hard I might end up accidentally breaking a bone or two of yours—"

Before he could finish, Vritra raised his right hand and flicked a finger, just beside the bearded guy's ear.

BANG

It was like a bomb had exploded, the bearded guy staggered and let out a scream, clutching his ear as blood began to leak out.

Everyone was shocked to see a several-meter-long and half a meter deep crater in the ground.

They stared at him in bafflement, finding it impossible to believe that someone could really be this strong in this town.

"Now, who wants me and my wife to leave this town, please step forward." Vritra said, his piercing gaze scanning the crowd.

They all shivered under his gaze and looked down, even the air seemed to feel suffocating all of a sudden.

Vritra decided to no longer hide his strength, he needed to instill some fear in their hearts.

"Good, now return to your work and if I find a single person trash talking about her, I WILL FIND YOU AND MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT PAIN REALLY IS!!"

No sooner had he finished, the entire crowd dispersed, leaving only a few people behind.

"Damn dude, how did you do that? Did your complete strength return?" Mark walked up to him and asked, looking awed.

"So I was right, you really had killed many abominations. Ben, did you find a way out of here?" Chopper said.

"Woah, so handsome..." Lisa stared at him with wide eyes.

As soon as the others were gone, Vritra walked back to Yennefer and leaned onto her, appearing very weak.

"Can't you see how injured my husband is, keep your questions for now."

Yennefer said, calling him her husband made her feel all tingly inside, she loved claiming him and showing everyone who he truly belonged to.

"O- Oh, please forgive us, we just got a little too excited here." Chopper and the others apologized, they watched as the couple walked back inside.

"Didn't Ben look ten times more handsome now?" Lisa muttered with a dreamy look.

"Yeah he did, but didn't you have a lover waiting for you outside? And have you not seen Yenni's face before, I have never seen a woman as beautiful, so give up."

Mark patted her shoulder before leaving.

...

Vritra and Yennefer lay on the bed, she hugged him even tighter.

It felt so good when he stood against everyone for her, and Vritra keeps making her feel it again and again.

"Ouch, are you trying to kill me by a hug?" Vritra said, though getting tightly embraced by her soft body only brought a pleasurable feeling.

"Ah sorry, I forgot about your injuries for a moment. You know, I have been meaning to say something to you..." Yennefer spoke, her breathing getting faster.

"What? Don't tell me you are getting horny again, well I can't really move much so—" Vritra joked, loving teasing this emotionless empress.

"Not that, I mean I can wait for a while. Anyway, I wanted to say that I think—no I mean..." taking a deep breath she spoke: "I love you!"

Yennefer wasn't really as shy as other women and was quite straightforward with her feelings, and by now she was sure she wanted to always stay close to him.

"Oh, and what about that emperor of yours? And that Han that keeps following you? And you know, I am already in relation with other women, are you really fine with it?"

Vritra said, their relation couldn't begin properly until a few things had been cleared.

"You don't have to worry about Han or the emperor, they won't be able to control my life for long. As for those women... you can keep them."

Yennefer said, though the jealousy could clearly be seen on her face.

"I see, okay I understand. But first let's get out of here." Vritra added, it was impossible to completely understand a person in a short time.

He wasn't sure if she would still be exactly the same after all her strength returns.

And he also wanted to know more about her, about her obsessions, why she hated demons so much.

Lying in each other's arms, they started talking about different things.

"Can you tell me why you hate the demons so much?" Vritra asked after a while, he was sure it must be a sensitive topic for her.

"..." Yennefer fell silent, her mood clearly getting down.

After a moment she spoke: "I am sorry but I can't tell you about it yet, it is sort of an... oath for me."

Chapter 347: Family in Danger

They stopped. Almost as one, their steps faltered, their heads turned, and their eyes followed the sound.

At the far end of the alley, a young woman stood frozen with her back pressed against the brick wall, her arms spread protectively in front of two small children who clung to her legs. The mother was trembling, her face pale, but when the shadows moved and the monsters poured in following the trail of Kaiden's group, her voice broke into a desperate growl.

"Get back!" she cried, forcing strength into her tone that her body could not carry.

Her hand darted to the side, snatching up a wooden broom that must have fallen from a doorway nearby. She then began swinging it wildly, shoving at the beasts with sheer defiance.

"Mom!!"

"Mommy, I'm scared!"

The children sobbed behind her, wailing for their mother in hopes that she could pull off a miracle as the monsters tightened their circle.

The beasts were not in a hurry, contrary to how fervently they rushed after Kaiden's group.

Now that they found their targets, their pace slowed drastically.

They stalked with their wings scraping the walls, claws dragging along the stone, and eyes glinting with amusement. One dipped forward just far enough to make the woman scream and hit it on the head with the broom, which achieved absolutely nothing, then pulled back again, savoring her panic.

Another hissed with its tail lashing against the ground. The sound of its move made the woman flinch, and the kids cried out in total hysteria. An existential fear oozed from every fiber of their bodies.

That was the exact reaction that they wanted. They wanted the children's cries. They wanted the thrill of watching prey break before they tore it apart.

Kaiden froze in place.

His greatsword pulsed in his grip, the Blood Monarch's Gauntlet visibly begging to be unleashed again, but Kaiden's mind was in turmoil. The Awakened Association had cleared only the single closest building around the dungeon gate before the outbreak, thinking it would be enough. Everywhere else, families were still trapped in their homes or on the streets. Thousands of lives must have already been lost in the first few minutes of chaos.

If he stopped here, if he threw himself into this fight, he would be risking everything. Luna, Aria, Nyx, Bastet. His women, his anchors, his reasons for fighting at all. They were already bleeding mana, already marked by the masked men hunting them. The cold, rational choice was to push forward, to survive, to trust that the government's forces would eventually come to clean up the mess.

But reason clashed with instinct. He was not a hero. He had never pretended to be one. Yet neither was he the kind of man who could simply walk away. The thought of turning his back as children were devoured alive twisted his stomach into iron knots.

Before his decision could settle, the choice was made for him. Nyx's hands cut through the air while her eyes blazed with the desire to protect. Space split apart at her command, and a shimmering wall erupted between the family and the circling monsters. The barrier stretched and stood strong even as the claws of the angered monsters raked against it.

"I won't let you," she hissed.

Aria's voice came next. "[Lunar Volley]!"

Magic cascaded from her staff. Crescent bolts rained down upon the beasts, tearing through flesh and bone with relentless force. The alley erupted in white-blue brilliance as screams of agony echoed when the monsters convulsed under the barrage. The mother shielded her children's eyes as the night turned into daylight for a moment. Her own tears were running freely while she clung to them with everything she had.

Kaiden's conflict burned away, replaced with the raw fire of Wrath. His women had made their stand, and he would not dishonor their choice by hesitating a moment longer.

He raised his greatsword. The crimson aura burst forth once again as the Paragon of Sin charged back into the fray.

The blade thrummed in his grip, vibrating with hunger and joy at being allowed to slay even more enemies, but Kaiden's crimson eyes weren't locked on the monsters anymore. For a fleeting second, he observed the family while running toward them.

The children were staring at him. A boy and a girl, maybe four and six years old. Their small faces were streaked with tears. Their mother's body blocked most of them, but not their eyes. Wide, terrified, uncomprehending.

Kaiden's gaze lingered on the boy, who refused to blink. The kid's chest heaved, his little fists clutched in his mother's dress, but he stared anyway, straight into Kaiden's burning crimson eyes.

And then Kaiden smirked.

His lips curved in a sharp, confident grin. Without breaking stride, he crouched, muscles coiling, and sprang into the air. His armored frame soared over the trembling mother and her children while the greatsword blazed in a streak of bloodlust.

The boy's head tilted back, eyes following him upward, mouth parting in awe.

"Wow..." he whispered.

Kaiden came down. His boots cracked the stone beneath him as he landed between the family and the incoming horde. His blade carved the first beast clean through, making red fractures start glowing in its chest before it erupted into gore.

The monsters shrieked, enraged, and rushed in from all sides.

Behind Kaiden, Bastet announced her presence with the flashiest of moves. Her palms ignited in miniature suns, and the tanned felinid thrust her hands forward. A wall of pure solar fire exploded across the alley entrance. The blaze roared high, sealing them from the main street and the endless tide behind it. For one breath, for one heartbeat, the family was safe.

Kaiden's Wrath Stance began the harvest of his enemies as he swung his blade in sweeping arcs. Fractures spread across carapaces, detonations ripping beasts apart. Luna's lightning screamed past him, cutting down those that slipped too close, her Stormblade crackling as she danced to his side and began butchering the monsters with her speed and destructive element.

Aria's staff shimmered as lunar arcs began shining brilliantly for a moment before slicing wings and limbs in bursts of silver.

While her friends activated themselves, Nyx, calm and collected, walked toward the family. Her barrier pulsed once before dissolving into sparks of bent space. She knelt before the mother.

"Follow us if you want to live."

The woman's trembling knees gave out for a second. Tears of immense relief began spilling as she clutched her children tighter. "Thank you... Thank you, thank you!" she sobbed, words breaking apart as she bowed her head in reverence, pressing her forehead to the floor.

Nyx gripped the woman's shoulder. "Save it. My family is fighting as we speak, so let's not waste any more time."

The monsters screamed in fury. Claws scraped against brick and stone. Bastet's sunfire wall held, but some outright ignored its existence, deciding to suffer extreme burn damage just to get through.

But the smarter beasts had changed tactics. They began scaling the walls, talons hooking into the brick, or wings flapping in the air as they dragged themselves up onto the roofs above.

"They're coming from above!" Aria saw it clearly from the back, alerting her allies.

Shadows lunged from the rooftops, wings folding as they dove straight into the alley from every direction.

This was when Kaiden got an idea.

"Follow me!" he shouted and began rushing straight toward the nearest building's wall.

Chapter 348: Monster!

The Valkyries blinked at their man in confusion as he sprinted full speed toward solid stone.

Why was Kaiden doing that?

His greatsword dissolved in a rush of crimson mist, collapsing into streams of blood that whirled back into the Blood Monarch's Gauntlet. His aura flared violently.

*BOOM!*

He slammed into the wall shoulder-first, instantly making stone crumble before his might as his raw physical strength tore a gaping hole wide enough to storm through.

Dust rained down as bricks were torn apart, collapsing. Kaiden stood framed in the ruin, ignoring the debris falling right on top of him, crimson eyes glowing like burning coals.

"Quickly! The monsters have wings, so running in the open is to their advantage! If we go through the buildings, we cut off their biggest advantage, and we might save people before they're eaten alive at the same time!"

That was all his women needed to hear.

Nyx's hand moved, making space distort as the two children rose gently into her arms, earning another "Wow..." though it was coming from the girl now. The boy was too busy watching Kaiden's back.

Nyx cradled the kids as if they weighed nothing at all, then darted through the hole right behind Kaiden. The rest followed in tight formation.

Inside, screams erupted. The sudden explosion of stone and dust had shattered the barricade its residents had erected and terrified the occupants.

The room was dim, lit only by a single lamp, windows sealed with nailed planks. Huddled together against the far wall was a family of four. A man clutching a baseball bat, a young woman with wide eyes, an older woman clutching a rosary, and a girl barely a teenager. Their bodies trembled as they stared at Kaiden's towering form.

He didn't spare them a second glance. Already, he was barreling toward the opposite wall, his aura flaring hotter as he wound up another charge.

The family gasped as the floorboards shook. "M-Monster?!"

Then came the crash. *BOOM!*

Kaiden's body tore through another barrier of stone.

The dust hadn't even settled when Aria stepped lightly into the room. She smiled at them with all the calm serenity of a goddess. Her moonlit aura radiated soft silver, soothing, reassuring, utterly at odds with Kaiden's demonic fury.

"Don't be afraid," she said warmly. "He isn't a monster. He's our protector. If you want to live, please follow us."

The contrast was absurd. Ahead of her, Kaiden's crimson silhouette seethed like a devil wreathed in hellfire, eyes glowing like pits of wrath. In front of them stood Aria, radiant and serene, as if she had stepped out of a sacred painting.

The family stared for one second longer, then nodded frantically.

Aria's ears perked when she heard the next shrieks from beyond the new hole Kaiden had carved.

"Monster!" panicked voices rang out.

She sighed, rolling her eyes with a fond smile adorning her delicate lips. "It seems my wild man is scaring the neighbors. Come on, let's go before he makes them faint. I'll calm them down."

The family exchanged nervous looks, then scrambled to their feet, falling in line behind her without a second thought.

Kaiden's wrath tore through another wall, stone and mortar screaming as the barricade burst open in a storm of dust. Screams rose immediately from within, coming from terrified families who thought the monsters had broken through.

Nyx, who had already given the pair of kids back to their mother, moved smoothly into position right behind him, and her hands began glowing pink. The debris that Kaiden sent flying slowed in the air. Fragments of rock and wood floated harmlessly before clattering to the side, ensuring no one was hurt. She glanced at the civilians, examining if she managed to save all of them.

"No injuries," she declared happily, then looked behind her shoulder, "Yandere bestie, work your magic."

Aria stepped forward instantly; her presence itself was serving as a balm applied right to their panicked state of mind. "It's all right. We're here to get you out. Please do not panic." Her silver aura spilled softly across the cramped rooms, calming frantic breaths, soothing wild panic. Where Kaiden was destruction incarnate, she was the steady hand pulling the frightened back into hope.

"Monster!" a woman whimpered from the far corner, pointing a finger right at Kaiden's crimson glare and blood-soaked armor.

Aria giggled and brushed back a strand of hair, her tone playful but reassuring. "Not a monster. He's my beyond awesome boyfriend." Her voice dipped softer, radiant and confident. "Follow us, or you'll meet the real monsters. Let me tell you, they aren't as pleasant on the eye as my handsome man is."

The tension in the room broke, and the group stumbled forward, clutching children, holding onto each other, nodding frantically. In this manner, the group of civilians protected by Valhalla's Sinners grew bigger by the second.

Kaiden had already moved on, carving the next exit. His body slammed into the wall with bone-shaking force, rubble collapsing in an avalanche. Nyx was there instantly, snapping her wrist and distorting space, catching the falling debris in suspension before dispersing it away from the path. Their rhythm was flawless; Kaiden shattered barriers, and Nyx shaped the aftermath so that even if there was someone on the direct opposite, they would live to tell the tale.

Behind them, Bastet raised a hand high. A solar disk spun into existence above her palm, blazing hot, then swept down the path they had left behind. Flames blossomed into a wide, searing field, forcing monsters to screech and recoil as their skin and flesh burned.

Luna darted beside her, moving like lightning incarnate. Her stormblade crackled as she cleaved down any beast that tried to scramble through the fire. Each swing discharged thunder that rattled the narrow halls. She glanced at Bastet and smirked. "I knew you were a badass tanned kitten already, but I sure love fighting alongside a Solar Empress. Just try not to collapse the buildings on top of us."

"You're one to talk..." Bastet grinned. "Your storm is just as devastating as my magic... what was it they called you again? Ah, yes. Chaos gremlin."

"..." Luna's eyes instantly narrowed.

Together, the Storm Valkyrie and Solar Empress guarded the convoy's rear, slaying anything that dared to press too close.

A perfect cycle of destruction and salvation. Kaiden demolished every barrier. Nyx reshaped the aftermath. Aria gathered terrified survivors into their fold with gentle words and luminous calm. And Luna and Bastet made sure the rear guard was a graveyard of ash and thunder.

The tide of monsters shrieked louder, but the group kept moving forward.

They burst through the next wall in a storm of rubble and dust. This time, however, no one screamed in panic.

Instead, a young woman gasped. Her wide eyes locked onto Kaiden, and her voice trembled with disbelief. "K-Kai?! You were this close all this time?! I didn't know..."

Kaiden paused his wild charge, caught off guard.

The girl fidgeted nervously, so much so that her hands were wringing at the hem of her shirt. "I-I'm Sarah, by the way... The one you might know as Princeless Princess... The head mod of your group..." She swallowed hard and then gestured weakly toward an older woman at her side. "And this is my mother."

The older woman could only nod with wide eyes, utterly stunned by the sight of Kaiden and his companions blazing through the house like characters from a fantasy movie. Her shock, however, gave way to something else as realization dawned. She glanced at her daughter. "Wait a second. Is he the man you've been crushing on like a hopeless teenager?"

"Mom!" Sarah snapped instantly as her face exploded in red, embarrassment flaring even brighter than the flames of the Ra-Blessed Felinid.

Aria let out a soft giggle, her serene glow only making Sarah's blush deepen. Even Kaiden, crimson aura blazing, allowed the ghost of a smirk to tug at the corner of his mouth. For a heartbeat, amidst the chaos, there was something almost normal. Almost peaceful.

But peace was not meant to last.

A low rumble shook the building. Plaster rained from the ceiling, and then, with a scream of breaking timber, the wall opposite them was ripped away entirely.

Through the gaping hole, a monster larger and meaner than any they had seen so far bared its ugly head. Its body was plated in jagged black carapace, its claws looking like hooked blades, its many eyes glowing with cruel hunger. The beast's roar shook the air, rattling the survivors to their bones.

The smaller monsters had been predators. This one was a calamity.

Chapter 349: Large Beast

Kaiden, while barreling through one wall after the other, had noticed something in the chaos.

Something that didn't fit.

Traditionally, dungeon breaks were hell made worse. Monsters stepping through a gate weren't the same creatures that awakened would face inside.

They were empowered, swollen with new strength. Taking the undead from the D-rank Hollow of Endless Hunger as an example, inside the dungeon, they were around level 25, but once spilling onto Earth, they would rapidly evolve to maybe even reach level 75. This was why dungeon breaks had to be prevented at any cost.

Yet the kill feed told a different story.

[You've slain Winged Ravager (Level 28).]

[You've gained 1,239 XP.]

No power-ups. No grotesque evolutions. These were baseline dungeon monsters, the same ones that appeared inside, not warped avatars of destruction. It was wrong. Everything humanity knew about dungeon breaks was being contradicted before his very eyes.

But Kaiden didn't get the luxury of pondering mysteries.

The towering monster in front of them, plated in jagged black carapace, radiated menace with its mere existence as it blocked their path forward.

"This big bastard must've come from deeper inside..." Kaiden muttered grimly. "After the initial swarm of the nearest monsters to the gate, the ones lurking further within are starting to spill out. Things are only going to get worse from here on out."

Before Sarah could even take another breath, a new sound cut through the chaos. The thunder of dozens of claws slamming against stone. From behind, the path they had carved was already being reclaimed. Dozens more monsters flooded in, pulled by the scent of concentrated human prey. The survivors pressed tighter together, their terrified cries becoming more and more desperate as shadows filled both ends of the corridor.

There was no time left.

Kaiden's decision was instant. "Forward's the path." He flexed his hand, and the Blood Monarch's gauntlet responded instantly. A heartbeat later, his greatsword materialized in a storm of blood, vibrating with hunger. "Let's go, my Moon and Space babes. Back me up."

He began moving toward the monster with measured steps. His every stride was a promise of carnage. On the way, he caught the trembling Sarah by the shoulder and firmly shoved her behind him, followed by her stunned mother.

Sarah yelped at the touch while stumbling back, but when her eyes rose to his face, her lips parted in awe. The sheer will burning in his crimson eyes stole the breath from her lungs. Her eyes began shining.

"He's already taken." Aria's voice dripped with venomous sweetness as she marched after her man. Her gaze narrowed sharply at Sarah, making the girl freeze under the weight of possessive jealousy.

"Careful, Princeless Princess," Nyx chuckled darkly as her fingers sparked with spatial distortion. "This kitten does a lot more than meow."

"... I know!" Sarah squealed excitedly. She was the target of the yandere princess's seething jealousy! The girl never expected to meet her idols, let alone feel their personas shine so brightly in her presence! She was saved by the Blood Knight and even got to experience Nyx's laidback attitude!

This day was no longer as catastrophic as it seemed.

Not aware of the thoughts of the hopeless woman, the three of them advanced together.

Behind them, Luna and Bastet stood shoulder to shoulder, cutting down the tide of beasts that threatened to overrun the rear. Lightning lanced through the alley while solar fire bathed the walls in molten brilliance.

Ahead, Kaiden, Aria, and Nyx moved forward. Their presence itself was cutting through the suffocating fear in the air. To the huddled civilians, it was a sight carved into legend: crimson wrath, lunar divinity, and spatial dominion walking as one to face a terrifying creature.

The little boy they had saved first clung to his mother's side, but his wide eyes never left Kaiden's back. To him, the bloody warrior was larger than life. Tiny fingers reached out instinctively, as though if he could just touch the man's silhouette, some of that impossible strength might spill into him. His lips parted, but no sound came.

Ahead, Kaiden never slowed. His steps were heavy, deliberate. Aria and Nyx stopped in unison, letting him advance alone.

Aria lifted her staff, which began glowing as lunar radiance pooled at the tip.

The divine power of the moon obeyed her call.

Beside her, Nyx raised both hands. Her expression shifted from playful to deadly.

She pulled every shard of debris Kaiden and the monster had shattered in their rampage earlier, suspending it in a telekinetic dance.

Kaiden's slow, steady stride broke into a sprint.

"[Bloodrush]!"

Bloodrush: Your path is paved in fire and ruin. Each step, each dash, is another heartbeat closer to carnage.

Crimson energy exploded beneath his boots. Every step cracked the stone, every dash accelerated into the next. The distance between him and the towering beast shrank in an instant.

Above and behind, Aria unleashed her lunar barrage. Crescent bolts screamed across the alley, each one carving silvery streaks through the darkness as they hammered into the monster's plated hide.

Nyx's fingers twitched. The debris she had gathered flew out as warped space accelerated them to reach impossible speeds. Shattered wood, broken steel, and splintered stone whistled through the air.

But the beast roared and pressed forward, entering the building with its giant bulk, which served to give Nyx even more ammunition.

Kaiden pointed his greatsword at the giant monster. Crimson Wrath erupted outward in a torrent of fire and chaos as [Infernal Torrent] was cast.

The cone of searing flame engulfed the monster, swallowing it whole. Its flesh blistered while its carapace turned red-hot, glowing from the sheer heat. The ground around it burned and smoked. Every step it took left smoldering ash behind.

Yet the beast did not fall.

It roared defiantly through the flames, from the lunar projectiles, from Nyx's barrage. Its immense armor shielded it from annihilation.

But Kaiden never stopped. His crimson eyes locked onto its burning form. No hesitation.

His path was fire. His path was ruin. His path was Bloodrush.

And he was already upon it.

The crimson flare beneath Kaiden's boots burned brighter, faster, hotter. His charge became a blur, the ground cracking and splitting in his wake. When he lunged, it was like a thunderclap had struck Sarah's ruined home. A shockwave blast outward from the force of his leap.

"[Doomrend]!"

His greatsword came down on the monster like judgment itself. Chaos flared along the edge, fractures spiderwebbing across the monster's carapace. The beast staggered backward, screeching.

But Kaiden wasn't done.

His crimson aura rippled violently, then dimmed. For one heartbeat, silence fell. Then the colors inverted. Red fury turned into deep indigo, a violet luminance that radiated command instead of carnage. Where Wrath burned with destruction, this aura was one with dominance, especially as sigils of light sparked into existence around his frame.

"Stance: Pride."

The very air thickened. The civilians watching sucked in sharp breaths as Kaiden's presence grew overwhelming, in an entirely different manner than before. The weight of superiority pressed down on the room. He was no longer simply a warrior drenched in wrath. He was an emperor of arcane ruin.

The monster recoiled from the sudden shift.
