Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

{Reworked this chapter, because I am currently working on chapter 30 and realized that this chapter is crap.]

We made our way towards the train car. The only thing that led out of this place. The ride was quiet; I didn't talk and neither did the staff. I had a reputation as that 'asshole' child, how and why some staff members were still nice to me was something I didn't understand. I knew that I needed to try and be nice to them but it was hard…so fucking difficult.

The journey through the factory was something I made sure to take note of. Usually after coming from the train car, the kids are escorted through the left hallway into another train that leads to the Game Station. This time, we went to the right side of the hallway, into a different train car.

We got off the second train, and I found myself in a long tunnel like hallway. There were people running back and forth down the hall with papers and other stuff in their hands or in their grab pack hands. It was chaotic to say the least. There hanging at the top of the hallway read 'Innovation Department' with Huggy smiling while pointing at it.

At the end of the hallway was a door, with a sign that read "Leith Pierre`s office" with a 'Dos, and Donts' poster by the door with that bumblebee cat thing on it. There was a lot of Donts on the list. One of them being "DON'T enter without knocking", and " DON'T make loud sounds or noises" , and DON'T do this and that on it.

Working here must be a real joy for these people. Our group stopped right at the door and our leader. I assumed he was the leader because he was..well. leading the group. He was a large white man, whom I couldn't make out if he was just fat or had muscle. His belly said fat, but his upper body and chest said muscle. He had a bald head, with a trimmed beard. He walked to the door, took a deep breath in and knocked a few times on the door. What kind of person was Leith Pierre to make a guy like this scared?

"Come in" an older male voice said.

The man opened the door, and lightly pushed me in the room. The room had bright large open windows on the left side. There was also a leather couch, a few sofas, and a glass table that was arranged neatly with the couch facing the right side of the room, and the sofas sitting on opposite ends facing each other. There was a designer rug carpet that rested underneath the area. On the right side was a large L-shaped desk that took up most of the right side of the room. There were some business chairs that were arranged along the length of the desk. Poster, and pictures of Playtime Co. big moments in history.

With pictures of a man in a business suit giving handshakes to someone else smiling at the cameras. It was strange to see the poster and pictures of this company's accomplishments. They had from what the pictures showed donated to multiple groups, helped with opening stuff and other such charitable things.

I didn't notice but looking at the desk. I saw a woman in her late thirties. She was white, with long brown curly hair. Her face was bright, with a kind smile on her face. Sitting in the main spot of the L-shaped desk was a..business man. That was the only thought I could think of when seeing him.

He was white, had short, slicked back hair that was neatly combed. He wore a business suit with a spotted pattern tie. He had the fakest smile I had ever seen on a person before. He had the look of being better than everyone else, and wanted people to know it. Either it was better looks, better outfit or better financial situations. Just a brief look at the man told you that. He was a man that didn't care, if you got fired. Didn't care if you were struggling to make ends meet every day. Busting your ass off, this guy didn't care. He was the type of person that said 'You can work overtime right. Perfect' not caring or bothering to ask if you had personal shit to do.

There was a time after my first deployment, a few months after I came back home that I was lost. I had lost friends, killed people in fights and battles. The friends that had made it back had either lost their limbs, their minds, or their emotions. We were lost, depressed group of people that just wanted things to end. The nightmares, the regrets, everything. Some of my friends had killed themselves due to suicidal depression or…overdose. But, there was a politician that had come by to set up this huge major event for veterans and the town. He had that smile, which I should have known was fake. He got the event all together, and for the veterans that came home the only thing he said was 'Good job. Thank you for your service' with nothing else. It was a 10 second…if that thank you. The rest of the 3 hour long event was about donation to his campaign. My other buddies were struggling financially and the only thing this man said was 'good job, but I need money'. I hate politics ever since, and always kept in mind what my mom told me 'Max no one care about a sad story' and she was right as always. This man DIDN'T FUCKING CARE.

No…this man….this Leith Pierre was the reason. The reason that I had nightmares about this place. The reason that I couldn't trust any of the staff members. The reason I was scared to make friends the first two weeks here. The reason I worked hard to set up traps and keep as many kids as I could safe.

I thought I don't know why, that…maybe..something would be different. But, now I was wrong this man didn't even looked bother by what he was doing. No, in fact he might be happy about it.

A small voice sounded in my mind 'You can kill him now, and be free'

I stared at the man, sitting in that chair behind the desk. My heart raced in my chest, my thoughts only about how to reach him, what my attack range was, how people would react to my attack, how to escape, where to put the pencil in for it to be most effective in the killing blow.

EVERYTHING…All thoughts were only on those things. I didn't bother about the woman sitting in the chair. I didn't bother about the warmth of the sun, the outside world I haven't seen in months.

Before I could even reach for anything, a hand grabbed my shoulder. I looked up to see the bald man holding me. We looked at each other for a moment before I heard a voice.

"Whoa there tiger, no fire here. Max, right? That is your name"

"Yes"

"Good…that's good. My name is Leith Pierre and this is one of my co-workers Stella Greyber. I wanted to meet with you and talk to you about the contract you made, and about those amazing what do you call them-"

"Pokemon?"

"Yup that's what it was. Now come sit down. No..No Harrison you and your team can leave. And please shut the door on the way out, thank you. Now, that the big scary guys are gone we can talk right? Well…first thing I want to say is. Love the contract, great work. Second thing is that I can't do anything about your request. Mrs. Greyber here oversees the PlayCare area and Game Station"

"B-But"

"I know..I know, that's why I brought her here."

"Hi Max, good to see you. I hope you like the Game Station and Playcare. My team, and I have been trying our best to make it bigger and better for all of you! I have also read some of the reports about you…and I am glad to see that you don't look nearly as bad as those reports. You just look like the cutest thing."

"Ahem, Mrs. Greyber please."

"Sorry he is just ssoo cute. Well-"

She clapped her hands together and continued

"I know you want Mommy Log legs, Kissy Missy and I am happy to see you liked PJ…but unfortunately, they all have very special important jobs. And, we just can't afford to move them. I am sorry Max, but they can't leave and come visit you at Playcare with the others. But, we can arrange for other things"

I couldn't…I just couldn't…I-I…these people. I never, ever in my life wanted to kill someone soooo FUCKING BAD. These people had ruin my plan at first light. Kissy was someone I wanted on my team, so was the bridge between me and Safe Haven group. I just needed to rethink this plan.

"Awww.. I know you really wanted this Max, but like I said they have very, very special jobs. I can however make it so that you can come to the Game Station anytime you want! How cool is that!"

That could work.

"Yeah..Tiger that is just how it goes sometimes. But, hey Ludwig was a great man and he never gave up after a loss. So, with that all being said. I wanted to talk with you about this idea of yours, and how to make your friends and other kids who might like them happy too. How about this, we will provide you with what you need to make those 'Pokémon' and we will give you a set amount of the income that you can use when you are older sound like a deal champ?"

The deal was shitty as all hell, but I didn't care. If I stayed here any longer…I didn't know what I might to these people. Thankfully I had good control over myself after having a few mental breakdowns in the last few months.

"Y-yeah"

"Great, just sign here, and here…and finally need your little john Hancock right there on those papers. PERFECT! Remember tiger you need anything let us know okay. We are here for you"

It took us a few minutes to sign everything, and once we were done I couldnt get out fast enough. I didnt like dealing with those people, it just pissed me off.

When I got outside the door, that white bald man was looking at me. We stared at each other for a second before he sigh and said in a deep voice

"Kid…don`t it aint worth it."

"Don't what?" I asked him

"I know that look, trust me kid. It aint worth it"

"Whatever" is all I said to him

The journey back was even quieter than it was coming here. . The more I thought about my situation, about marie, theo and the other orphans, about fucking doughy I got sad. But, seeing those two happy in a comfortable office made all those feelings of sadness flush right into my frontal lobe, and replaced with those feelings with unbelievable hatred and calm cold rage.

We finally made it back, and the first thing I wanted to do was sleep in my own bed for once. I knew that I wouldnt be taken anytime soon, and that even if the other kids were taken there was nothing I could do about it.

I didn't make it half way to Home Sweet Homes, before I was stopped by Tyler and her gang of girls

"STOP right there you meanie!! Sam told us that you said that she didn't help at all, and that—?"

"Tyler…please..my head hurts and the adults had me do a lot of boring stuff."

"w-w-Well this isn't over. You better apologize to your girlfriend tomorrow. O-o-r ME and the girls won't invite you to our big tea super surprise birthday party event. AND! We will tell Mommy Log Legs what you did"

"Okay…i will"

I got into the room, and for the first time EVER being here I slept on my bed.

THIRD POV

"Leith. That kid, the reports say that he doesn't like the staff here. Plus, did you see the way he looked at us?"

"It's nothing Stella. Kid probably just doesn't like adults or something. Not the first time someone glared at me or gave me a death threat. He is a child, but could he possibly do?"

"Yeah. I guess you are right. Did you get the report? On the hmm..incident?"

"Don't remind me. I have team working on clean up right now. Eddie should be coming in soon Speak of the devil"

A man walked into the room. He was tanned skinned, short black hair, and a sharp face. His suit was of a black color, with the inside shirt being a white button up. He didn't wear a tie.

"How bad is it, Eddie?"

"Its bad Leith. Real bad. The whole thing is going to cost us money that we simply don't have. Our budget is already thin as it is."

"I know…the stockholders are getting scared; our stocks are going down and we will barely make quota for this quarter."

"We need a win, Pierre. We need something to sho-"

"I know…I know. I brought that kid in, Max. Got us the copyrights to whatever he makes. Stories, toys, whatever."

"Too bad I wasn't here to meet him. Hopefully we can start selling soon….The 'doctor' asked me about that kid again you know."

"As far as I am concerned Sawyer hasn't gotten us anywhere or anything. His 'bigger bodies' project with all these incidents has started to become a problem. We need to set boundaries"

"Like we haven't already tried that, with that sonofabitch."

"He is right Leith, I barely can get him to listen to me half the time."

"We tell him that if he wants the kid, he has got to show us something. If Max`s ideas can turn our financial situation around then Sawyer can complain all he wants."

"That's the plan Pierre? What steal ideas from this kid, and dangle him like a carrot for Sawyer? That's it!"

"Do you have a better idea?"

"No. I don't. What do we do about this whole incident thing?"

"I already hired someone to find out what happened."
