Chapter 2 - The Mother

Coming downstairs feels like forever. Link got the magazine folded up in his back pocket. Before the last step on the stairs, he breathed a long sigh and secured the magazine, trying to collect himself much like preparing for a battle.

Link's mom as usual prepared a sumptuous dinner for the two of them. Looking at the spread on the table of macaroni and cheese, and chicken-fried steak, his stomach rumbled, immediately he sat and started to devour the delectable food on the table.

"You left the milk on the floor earlier…" His mom said to him waiting for a reply.

"I…I…need to finish my homework first, there's a double drop today, I need to take advantage of the rewards," Link replied.

His mom understood that Link is pertaining to the game Reverie.

"That's what I thought. It's good enough for me, as long as you know your priorities." His mom smiled.

After being done with dinner.

"What do we have for dessert?" Link excitedly asked his mom.

His mother didn't answer but just smiled and stood up.

"I'll get it." Link volunteered.

"It's in the oven, be careful it might be hot." His mom reminded him.

Link stood quite rapidly resulting in the magazine to get caught up at the back of the chair and it fell on the floor. His mom noticed it and before she could utter a word, Link vanished into the kitchen.

His mom picked the magazine and saw a sticky note stuck between its pages. She opened the page where the sticky note was clinging to, she read the first part of the article but stopped because there it was, staring at her, her husband's photo.

She didn't know what to make out of it, her son had this magazine in his pocket and why does it have the sticky note on that particular page, she thought. She stood up and followed Link to the kitchen.

"Hey, I forgot, I need to make a call. Can you clean the table after you're done? I really need to make this call. Thanks!" Quickly her mom disappeared from his sight.

Link just stood there carrying the apple pie for dessert and based on his mom's actions, he knows that she already saw the magazine that he intended to leave on the floor. He felt kinda frustrated as he wanted to start a conversation with his mom about his dad. He felt defeated, although this was the exact outcome that he knew would happen knowing his mom.

"She still doesn't want to talk about my dad," Link thought to himself.

He doesn't want to follow his mom to her room and insists on talking to him, he just ate the apple pie alone and cleaned the table as his mom instructed.

Feeling disappointed, he got up to his room, the magazine in tow, he turned the X-Play on and started to play Reverie. He's not really into playing at his current state, but he just wanted to appreciate the game in its entirety, he just wanted to admire his father's creation.

"If only he was here, we would play together and he can even teach me some tricks," he thought to himself smiling.

His eyes grew tired, he turned off the game console and decided to go to sleep. The moment his face touched the pillow, he was out.

It was a Saturday morning, no school for him and no work for his mom. Considering what had happened the night before, he will not be seeing his mom preparing for breakfast today but he's hoping for the opposite. He would love to see his mom get over the past and could freely talk with him about his dad. He went down stairs to have some breakfast and was still hoping that he would see his mom at the kitchen, busy watching the news on TV or just waiting for him to talk about his week at school and what are his plans in the coming week.

He walked past his mom's bedroom and tried to sense if she's in there. He even placed his ear at the door and listened if she was still there inside, but nothing. He wasn't feeling anything or hearing anyone. He continued walking slowly. He hates this eerie feeling of being alone. He was with his mom for all his life. It's his sense of security, it kind of feels like that he was abandoned to tend for himself. Well, he thinks he was old enough to fend for himself but it's their love for each other that makes it special. He feels nothing could go wrong when he and his mom are together, plus he's happier that way. He can even say that he is happy without his dad, but it would really be a nice bonus if he would know what really happened between his parents.
