Chapter 1 - The Moment That Touched My Heart

It was September — the first day of my college . A new chapter of life as

start. I walked into the campus not knowing what to expect. My mind was blank,

my heart unsure, but I kept walking. The crowd was unfamiliar. Seniors walked by with confidence, while freshers like me looked lost. And then… she appeared.

I didn't know her name. I didn't even know why my eyes were drawn to her. She wasn't doing anything special. Just standing there, looking

around, a bit anxious, a bit curious. But something about her — her eyes, her

presence — made me pause for a moment longer.

Days passed, lectures came and went, but I kept noticing her. In the lab, in the corridor, in the common area. Always around, never

close. I never had the courage to talk to her.

Then one day, she looked at me. Not just a glance — a deep look, like she was searching for something too. I froze. My heartbeat skipped. She smiled faintly and walked away.

"Maybe it's nothing," I told myself.

But it wasn't.

We got paired up for a lab project one afternoon. My hands were trembling as we sat next to each other. That was the first time I heard her voice — soft, warm, slightly playful.

"I think we've seen each other a lot… but never talked."

I smiled. "Yeah… I've been waiting for the right moment, I guess."

That lab session changed everything.

From that day, we began talking. Casual chats turned into long conversations. College didn't feel the same anymore. Every hour felt like

a countdown to when I'd see her again. Every message, every laugh, every shared

silence… meant more than I could explain.

She had a unique spark — like a mix of storm and sunshine. Sometimes childish, sometimes wise beyond her age. She'd scold me playfully,

challenge me, laugh at my dumb jokes, and in between, drop truths that made me

think deeply about life.

I didn't confess my feelings. I didn't need to. Something was already happening between us.

Then came that unforgettable moment.

We were sitting in the corner of the lab. She was quiet that day. I asked if everything was okay.

She looked at me with eyes that held a thousand emotions and said,

"I'm waiting for you. Don't take too long to understand that."

She left after that. I sat there, stunned, as her words echoed in my heart.

After that day, she didn't behave the same. She acted normal on the surface, but I could sense the distance — like she was guarding herself.

I didn't know what to do. I wanted to tell her how much she meant to me, but I

didn't want to lose what we already had.

Then came December 11,

I had a dream the night before. She came to me in that dream, stood in the shadows and said, "I'm still waiting. But I can't wait forever."

I woke up with a storm inside me.

That day in college, I saw her again — same smile, same charm. But she avoided my eyes.

Later in the lab, she turned to me and said casually, "Your friend said say , you like me. Is it true?"

I didn't know what to say. My silence spoke louder than words.

She smiled and walked away again.

That was the last lab session before everything changed.

And the semester as ended . an the holidays no calls no messages .

After holiday. January .

The holidays had ended. A second semester had begun, but inside me, the same storm was still rumbling. December 11th – the day college reopened – didn't feel like a fresh start. It felt like a continuation of something unfinished… a

conversation that never reached the final words.

As I stepped back into the campus, the same buildings stood tall, but something inside me had changed. I wasn't sure what to expect. Would she be the same? Would her eyes still carry the same look from that day in the

lab?

My heart pounded louder than my footsteps as I entered the corridor. I looked around—there she was, just ahead, walking with her friends.

For a moment, everything else faded. The noise, the crowd, even my breath.

Then it happened.

My close friend, the same one who had once joked about me falling for her, came to me with a serious look. He didn't smile this time. He

simply said,

"She loves you . That day in the lab… I had already told her that you like her. That's why she looked at you like that. My friend "

I was stunned. My mind raced back to that day—our final lab before the holidays. I had sat alone at the corner desk, pretending to be lost

in thought. I remember her gaze, soft but intense, as if she wanted to say something but didn't. At the time, I thought I imagined it. Now I realized I wasn't wrong.

But why didn't she say anything? Why did she remain silent when I was drowning in motions? Did she expect me to speak first? Or was she

afraid, like me?

From that moment on, the days moved strangely. Sometimes, we crossed paths and shared silent glances. Other times, she avoided eye contact altogether. Was she confused? Was she waiting?

I kept remembering the times we laughed together, the casual jokes we made in the classroom, the little pranks, and the moments when our fingers nearly touched while passing a book. Were those small accidents, or did

they mean more?

But now, something had shifted.

She seemed distant—not cold, but quieter. I noticed she started talking to new people, laughing in groups where I wasn't present. That

hurt more than I could explain. It felt like watching someone slowly erase you

from their world.

I still hadn't told her anything. No confession. No questions. I was stuck in the fear of "what if." What if she changed her mind? What if I ruined our current bond? What if I was too late?

Even my friend who once pushed me to open up now said, "Maybe she's not the same anymore . Girls change faster."

I didn't want to believe it. But deep inside, something warned me — if I stayed silent for too long, the story might end before it ever

truly began.
