Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Training

After dinner, Shiyu Uchiha talked with his mother about his journey. Of course, he only went into detail about the first battle against the bandits, briefly summarizing the rest and continuing his recount all the way to the final fight.

When he spoke of awakening his Sharingan, Shiyu could clearly feel his mother's emotional reaction—a look of disbelief, as if asking, "So that's it? That's how you awakened your Sharingan? You're not yanking my chain, are ya?"

Still wanting to pass on the meditation method to his mother, Shiyu voluntarily brought up the topic, claiming he had accidentally stumbled upon it through casual experimentation. Although he knew this explanation sounded weak, he couldn't think of a better one.

Though Uchiha Shizhi's eyes narrowed in suspicion, she didn't press further and instead began researching the Sharingan Meditation Method herself.

Despite several attempts, Uchiha Shizhi was unable to cultivate the method. But drawing from her vast experience, she confirmed that it was a cultivation technique focused on spiritual power. Based on Shiyu's description, she deduced it also had the auxiliary effect of aiding in the awakening of the Sharingan.

Shiyu then shared his guesses about the Sharingan with Uchiha Shizhi. As a Mangekyo Sharingan bearer who had developed the forbidden jutsu Izanami, she possessed extensive knowledge of the Sharingan. She answered all of Shiyu's questions, whether directly or from a different angle.

Finally, she taught him many small techniques for effectively using the Sharingan, significantly enhancing his understanding of it.

By the time these discussions ended, it was already late, so both of them went their separate ways to rest.

The very next morning, after breakfast, Uchiha Shizhi immediately began testing Shiyu's swordsmanship and Shifting Body Technique. After all, as a ninja, strength was the foundation for survival. She would do everything in her power to improve his abilities.

After a fierce sparring match, Shiyu realized that the gap between them had not narrowed. On the contrary, now that his own strength had improved, he could more deeply sense just how powerful his mother truly was. The last of his pride from awakening the Sharingan was completely crushed.

"Good job. I can see that after tasting blood, your blade has indeed grown sharper, and your synchronization with your swordsmanship has improved. However, being sharper also makes it easier to injure yourself.

Just like in swordplay, where offense and defense go hand in hand, you need to keep your edge in check, revealing it only when finishing off an opponent. At that point, your swordsmanship will reach jonin level."

Hearing her words, Shiyu lowered his head in thought about his sword style, quickly realizing this recent issue—he had been unable to fully unleash his sharpness during attacks, mistakenly believing himself simply not strong enough yet.

He then recalled that crash course on swordsmanship. Apart from the decisive strike move, the other two moves were one offensive and one defensive maneuver.

His body moved accordingly as he started practicing the blade techniques again, naturally incorporating his sharpness into the attack movements. Upon completing the eight offensive forms, he smoothly transitioned into the defensive movement to conceal that edge.

However, Shiyu Uchiha's current abilities still had some shortcomings and he couldn't fully achieve it. But Uchiha Shizhi was beside him, guiding Shiyu Uchiha through his swordsmanship. As Shizhi guided him, Shiyu finally reined in his sharpness and completed the four-stage defensive movement again.

Then it shifted into an offensive form, repeating this process over and over. Shiyu became completely immersed in swordplay's shifting forms. He could feel his techniques improving rapidly in such a short time—honing his edge during defense, then unleashing it in attack. Only when he hit his physical limit did he finally come to his senses.

"Not bad. Remember this feeling. When you can reach this stage without relying on outside help, your sword skills will have truly achieved something. If you can condense your sharpness to its peak within that push-and-pull rhythm, then comes [Ci] (piercing stab)," Uchiha Shizhi first nodded in satisfaction, then said to Shiyu.

"You just take some time to reflect on it. I'll go prepare lunch for you. Rest well too. This afternoon I'll teach you Fire Release ninjutsu. Now you're ready to start working on chakra shape and nature transformation."

After saying this, Shizhi walked inside the house. Shiyu sat cross-legged alone in the backyard, restoring himself while contemplating the sword techniques.

By afternoon, Shiyu had mostly recovered. Shizhi took him to a training area and first asked him to demonstrate the [Great Fireball Technique]. Then Shiyu formed hand seals, gathered chakra, and finally spat out a massive fireball.

Shizhi nodded in approval after watching. From forming the hand seals, controlling the chakra, to finally exhaling the fireball, everything was performed very standardly. It was obvious he had put in serious effort.

After observing Shiyu's mastery of this jutsu, Shizhi personally demonstrated the [Dragon Fire Technique]'s hand seals while explaining the chakra pathways inside the body.

Under her explanation, and combining with his previous experience practicing the Great Fireball Technique, Shiyu quickly grasped the key points of chakra manipulation and successfully released the [Dragon Fire Technique], although its power wasn't quite up to par.

Next, Shizhi began teaching the [Phoenix Sage Fire Technique]. The process was similar to before. The Phoenix Sage Fire Technique had roughly the same learning difficulty as the Dragon Fire Technique, and it didn't take much time before Shiyu quickly mastered it.

Then Shizhi explained the shape and nature transformations involved in these two techniques. She also taught him how to enhance both techniques by utilizing the shape and form transformations of fire-natured chakra when casting them.

Finally, she reminded Shiyu again—if both shape transformation and nature transformation were perfectly executed, the power of these two techniques would be no weaker than A-rank ninjutsu.

To add credibility, Shizhi even demonstrated it herself, adding that she wasn't particularly skilled at Fire Release.

Shiyu inwardly rolled his eyes, thinking, In your opinion, if someone hasn't reached Kage-level, does that count as "not particularly skilled"? But he dared not say that out loud—he feared getting beaten up.

The nature and form transformations of Fire Release were so complex that Uchiha Shizhi spent the entire afternoon explaining just the basics to Shiyu Uchiha. To help Shiyu grasp the concepts, Uchiha Shizhi repeatedly gave practical demonstrations.

He kept explaining all the way through dinner. After dinner, he let Shiyu Uchiha review the day's lessons independently, without offering any additional explanations.

The next day, Shiyu Uchiha met with his two teammates at their squad's gathering spot. After a short wait, Shinku Yuhi showed up. She first handed out the reward money to everyone, then informed them that they would depart for a new mission in three days. She also took the three of them to Akimichi clan's barbecue restaurant for a celebratory barbecue, commemorating the success of their first mission.

When they returned home, Uchiha Shizhi resumed teaching Shiyu Uchiha about Fire Release's nature and form transformations. Occasionally, he also guided Shiyu's swordsmanship training.

Thus, over these three days, Shiyu Uchiha was flooded with a massive amount of knowledge. By the time they were set to depart, his head still felt somewhat muddled. However, after three days of intense training, Shiyu had entered the foundational level of both chakra form and nature transformations. He was now able to use both the Dragon Fire Technique and the Phoenix Sage Fire Technique with full effect, and he understood how to proceed with future training. Therefore, his gains were substantial, and he clearly saw the direction he needed to work toward.

Perhaps due to his superior chakra control, Shiyu made exceptionally rapid progress in chakra form transformation training.

Finally, at Shiyu's request, Uchiha Shizhi taught him the Shadow Clone Jutsu. With his superb chakra control, Shiyu mastered this Ninjutsu within half a day.

After learning the Shadow Clone Jutsu, Shiyu realized that although the technique did evenly distribute chakra between the original and the clone, it worked differently from what he had imagined.

No matter how many clones were created, his total chakra was always split into two halves—one half remained with the original body, while the other half was shared among multiple clones, each having a minimum chakra threshold. It wasn't like you could just make as many clones as you wanted.

As for the Kinjutsu: Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu, whether it functioned the same way was unknown. Unless Shiyu could obtain the Scroll of Seals, he would never get to see it. Still, he speculated that it probably divided the chakra equally between the original and all clones based on the total number—otherwise, it wouldn't have been classified as a forbidden technique.
