Jean was gone. Bell and Luis didn't know it yet, but what they didn't know was that this day would bring a terrible event. What would happen? And did Jean have anything to do with it?
(The next day)
Bell woke up early. Bell always woke up earlier than Luis — the reason, of course, was that he wanted to go fishing.
Bell: "(Yawns) It's already morning. Guess I'll get up… I wonder how Jean's doing?"
Bell got up, took off his pajamas, and put on the clothes he usually wore — a sleeveless jacket over a yellow T-shirt. Then he went downstairs to the dining area where the customers ate.
Bell: "Hmm… Well, most people have the day off today. That means we'll probably be busy since this morning… hmm?"
Bell saw that the kitchen door was open.
Bell: "Huh? Why's it open?"
He walked into the kitchen and looked around.
Bell: "Hmm?"
But Jean wasn't there.
Bell: "Huh? Where's Jean?"
He remembered what Jean had said.
(Memory)Jean: "I'm not staying long. I'll stick around for a bit and then I'll go."She had said that yesterday.
Bell: "Oh… right. She could have woken me up, I would've given her something to eat. And… she doesn't even have a ship or a boat, right?"
Bell went over to the sofa. Monkey was lying there.
Bell: "Hey Monkey, what are you doing here—wait a minute…"
On Monkey lay a note.
Bell: "A note?"
He took the note. It was from Jean.
Bell: "Oh… it's from Jean. Let's see what it says."
Jean (note): "Thanks for letting me stay the night. Sorry I didn't say goodbye properly. I've got things to do. Your town is really nice. If I can, I'll visit you again. Now I have to say goodbye. Take care, Bell, and weird bird."
Bell: "With 'weird bird' she probably means Luis… hmm… wait, there's more at the bottom."
He unfolded the note completely.
Bell: "What does it say—huh?!"
Jean (note): "And thanks for the watch, it's really nice."
Below that, she had drawn a middle finger.
Bell: "Oh… that cheeky girl!!"He shouted loudly.
Bell: "Wait, she drew an arrow pointing down… hmm… huh!"
Under the arrow was something else drawn.
Bell: "A penis! Is she trying to mess with me?!"He shouted again. Then he sighed.
Bell: "Ah, whatever… that's just how she is. Who can figure her out? Hey Monkey, get up, we're going fishing."
The monkey woke up.
Monkey: "(Yawns) Bell… Bell, are we going fishing?"
Bell: "Yeah, hop on my shoulder."
Monkey climbed slowly onto his shoulder.
Monkey: "Bell, Bell."He said it in a very soft, cute voice and settled on Bell's shoulder.
Bell: "Alright then, let's go."
Bell took his fishing rod and went outside. As usual, he greeted the neighbors — or rather, they greeted him. It only took about five minutes to reach the beach.
Bell: "The barrel Jean was in is still here."
Bell walked to the sea, sat down, and started fishing. It didn't take long for him to catch a few fish, but he couldn't really focus — he kept thinking about Jean.
(Memory)Jean: "I'm Jean. Jean Henderson. Nice to meet you." (Grins)
Bell: "Maybe Luis was right… maybe she's bad news, or planning something. So I shouldn't worry about her."
(10 minutes later)
Bell was done fishing. He had to head back since it would soon be opening time. So he returned to the restaurant and went into the kitchen.
Luis: "You're back."
Bell: "Yeah, good morning."
Luis: "Let's open the restaurant then. Looks like that creepy girl is gone."
Bell: "Yeah, when I woke up she wasn't there. Probably left before sunrise."
Luis: "Better that way. That girl gave me a weird feeling. And she's a cheeky brat. Hey Bell, by the way, have you seen my necklace? I couldn't find it this morning."
Bell: "Jean probably stole it. She took my watch too."
Luis: "Seriously… who did you bring here? Well, at least she's gone."
Bell: "Yeah, you're right. I didn't like her much either. She was just unsettling. Alright, I'll open the door so the customers can come in. It's about time anyway."
(2 hours later)
This time there were even customers in the early morning, so Bell and Luis had to work really hard. Luis was the waiter today.
Customer: "Luis, do you still have those crabs you had three days ago? If yes, I'll take one."
Luis: "Yes, we still have plenty."
Customer: "Luis, can you refill my cup?"
Luis: "Sure, one moment."
That's how it always was on days when most people had time off. But neither Bell, nor Luis, nor the townspeople knew that after this, a cruel event would happen — one that would completely change Bell and Luis's lives.
(Night)
It was night again. Bell and Luis had worked hard all day and went to sleep.
Bell: "(Sighs) I'm completely exhausted."
Luis: "That's how it is on days like this. But we can sleep as much as we want now — tomorrow's our day off."
Bell: "Yeah… you're right. Alright, I'm going to bed."
(1 hour later)
Luis was still awake, reading a book. But suddenly, he heard the bells.
Luis: "Hmm… what's going on? That's the watchtower bell, isn't it?"
Luis went to the window and opened it. But what he saw… he had never imagined in his life.
Luis: "This… this can't be happening! Bell! Bell! Wake up, you idiot!"
Bell slowly woke up.
Bell: "What… is it… Luis?"
Luis grabbed him by the shoulders.
Luis: "Come on! We have to get out of here — pirates are attacking us!"
Bell: "What… pirates… what are you talking about?"
Suddenly, Luis heard a sound — a cannonball heading toward the restaurant. He grabbed Bell and jumped out the window just as the cannonball hit and destroyed the restaurant. Luis and Bell hit the ground.
Bell: "…damn it… no… our restaurant!"
Bell stood up and tried to run to it, but Luis stopped him.
Luis: "No, Bell! Stop!"
Bell: "Get out of my way, Luis! This restaurant belonged to my late parents… I promised them I'd protect it!"
Luis: "Forget it! It's too late already! I'll take care of the restaurant — you run with the other townsfolk and get out of here!"
But things got worse — the pirates' ship docked in the town's harbor, and the pirates charged into town, attacking the townspeople.
Townspeople: "They're here! Run!"
The townspeople began to run in panic, but the pirates killed them one after another.
Pirate: "Come on, men! Take everything valuable! Kill the men and the adult women! Take the children and young women as hostages!"
Luis and Bell hid around a corner.
Luis: "Damn… there's too many of them."
Bell: "The… the townspeople…" (trembling)
Bell watched with his own eyes as the pirates killed men and women.
Townsman: "Please… no… let me go… please…"
Pirate:(laughs) "Your happy life is over. This island will be ours!"He stabbed the man in the chest.
The pirates went into the houses. The screams of women and children could be heard everywhere. The townspeople ran for their lives. Bell began to shake.
Luis: "Bell! Bell! Listen to me! Run away as fast as you can! Never look back, no matter what you hear!"
Bell: "…yeah… but… what about you?"
Luis: "I'll go in a different direction. You run! Got it?"
Suddenly, some pirates spotted them.
Pirate: "Hey! Over here — we found some!"
They charged. Luis held them off.
Luis: "Go! What are you waiting for, you idiot?! Run!"
Bell started running as fast as he could, following the other fleeing townspeople.
Bell: "No… no… this can't be real… this is just a dream."
Suddenly, he heard a scream.
Bell: "That… voice?"
He turned around. It was little Susie — kneeling on the ground, screaming. Her mother lay on the ground.
Bell: "Susie!"
He ran to her.
Bell: "Susie! What's—oh…"
Susie's mother was lying dead on the ground, with multiple bullet wounds in her back. Susie was kneeling before her, crying loudly.
Susie: "Mama! Mama!"
Bell fell to the ground in fear, trembling.
Bell: "This… this can't be happening…"
He crawled backward — and bumped into something.
Bell:(trembles)
He turned around.
Bell: "Oh…"
On the ground… was a head.
When Bell saw it, he screamed loudly.
Bell: "(Screams) Oh my god… this can't be happening!"
He tried to stand, but his legs had gone numb. Suddenly, he heard pirates shouting.
Pirates: "Hey! Look — over there! Someone's there!"
Bell: "No… no!"
He was suddenly surrounded by pirates.
Pirate 1: "A kid. (laughs)"
Bell: "Please… please… let me go…"
Pirate 2: "Sorry, but we can't."
Pirate 3: "We're going to kill every last one of you!"
They laughed. One of the pirates lunged at Bell.
Bell: "No! Let me go! Let me go!"
Pirate 1: "What's wrong, kid? Don't worry — I'll just stick this knife in your neck and it'll all be over. It won't even hurt."
Bell: "Help! Help!!!"
Suddenly, someone shot the pirate who was on top of Bell with the knife.
Bell: "Oh… what?"
The pirate screamed, and something came out of his mouth — it looked like a ghost, like the ones from movies or cartoons. The ghost floated into the air and moved in a certain direction.
Unknown: "(Swallow) That was close."
The voice came from somewhere nearby. Then the person shot at the other pirates. Suddenly, they all fell to their knees, and from their mouths came the same ghostly shapes, which all floated in the same direction.
Bell turned around — and was shocked when he saw the person.
Bell: "Jean… what… what…?"
The ghosts flew into her mouth. She swallowed them.
Jean: "(Gulp) Not bad. Hmm?"
She looked at Bell and grinned.
Jean: "Hello Bell. Nice to see you again."
