Chapter 10 - Prison and Freedom

The palace was boiling with chaos. Guards dashed through the corridors, messengers arrived one after another, and the king sat on his throne, clutching sealed letters bearing the crests of neighboring kingdoms.Every letter screamed the same warning: "A giant white dragon was seen in the sky… breathing fire over plains and mountains."

The king's face darkened, his grip on the parchment tightening until its edges curled. Outside, the roar of crowds in the square mixed with the pounding boots of soldiers in the hall, while his features grew harder with every word he read.

The grand doors of the throne room burst open, and Dalerina entered, her steps steady despite the tremor in her heart. She advanced until she stood before the throne, eyes darting between her and the king.

The king's voice was heavy:— "Are you doing this on purpose, Dalerina? Do you realize you are putting entire kingdoms at risk?"

She lifted her chin, answering firmly:— "I did nothing but set her free… Elinor was afraid, and she won't harm anyone as long as you don't harm her."

The king's gaze hardened, but the queen leaned close to his ear, whispering words only he could hear. Suddenly, fury blazed in his eyes, and his body leaned forward like a predator about to strike.

Before he could speak again, a deafening roar shook the sky, rattling the walls of the hall and shattering several windows. Terror spread through the room as all eyes turned to the great windows and saw Elinor soaring above the palace, her white wings gleaming in the sunlight, flames dancing around her.Her roar echoed through distant mountains, joined by other voices… deeper, older… the awakening cries of other Big Dragons.

A guard rushed forward, breathless:— "Your Majesty! The Big Dragons… they're on the move!"

The royal dragon expert strode in, pale-faced, eyes wide with alarm:— "She's of the pure lineage of the Big Dragon rulers… She's awakened them, and now they're coming to her."

Dalerina turned to the king, her eyes pleading:— "She won't hurt you, I promise… just don't go after her."

But the king thundered:— "Enough! Lock her in her chamber… now!"

Guards seized her by the arms, their grip unyielding as she struggled, shouting his name—her voice drowned by another sound… the tearing of iron.

High atop Mount Fliar, two cages of the Big Dragons burst open, and a pair of winged titans took to the sky, their flames stretching toward the horizon. It was like the lighting of a war's fuse… a fire born on the mountains, destined to reach the heart of the kingdoms.

And no one knew… this was only the beginning.
