Chapter 47: Guy's Trust
"Guy! Are you trying to protect a rogue ninja from the village?" Torune Aburame questioned Might Guy, his insects hovering in the air before them in an aggressive formation.
It seemed as if, any moment now, this swarm of terrifying bugs would descend and devour the two before him.
A normal ninja would've already retreated by now.
But Might Guy pointed straight at Torune and said firmly, "No, I can personally guarantee that Shiki Uzumaki is absolutely not a rogue ninja."
Torune hadn't expected someone like this to interfere suddenly, so he replied, "That's not for you to decide. Can't you see all these bodies lying around?"
Guy was slightly confused because indeed, the scene looked quite horrifying. Even during wartime, it was rare to see such a horrifically bloody sight.
What exactly happened here?
Could it be that Shiki really did all this?
Guy turned his gaze toward Shiki—not out of distrust, but simply wanting to hear Shiki's own explanation.
Catching his breath from exhaustion, Shiki replied, "None of them are dead—they're only temporarily unconscious. My remaining chakra automatically restores them when their blood loss reaches a critical point."
Normally, achieving such an effect solely through Medical Ninjutsu would be extremely difficult. However, the chakra of the Uzumaki clan had unique properties.
Although Shiki hadn't inherited the Uzumaki clan's Sealing Techniques, through his own research, he had managed to tap into a small portion of that power—though it remained quite underwhelming.
It was nowhere close to the level of Karin's natural abilities, not to mention advanced Sealing Techniques like ADAMANTINE SEALING CHAINS. Even skills he believed should have naturally manifested, such as something resembling Kagura's Mind's Eye of the Kagura, remained completely beyond his grasp.
After hearing Shiki's explanation, Guy turned around and said seriously, "Shiki, I knew it. Someone who values hard work and youthfulness like you would never betray Konoha."
"If he didn't kill anyone, then who is this person?" Torune continued.
So saying, Torune lifted up the Chunin he had just killed moments ago.
Looking at it, Guy immediately understood—the man was definitely dead. His neck had twisted into a horrifying angle, something almost like the monsters described in children's scary tales.
Shiki became instantly furious upon realizing that Torune actually used the very ninja he himself killed to frame him.
"It wasn't me," Shiki stated, although explanations often sounded weak and powerless.
He wanted to say that Torune had killed the Chunin himself, but Shiki knew even if Guy—who trusted him deeply—believed the truth, no one else would.
After all, who would think that someone from Root would recklessly kill their own comrade just for mission success?
So Shiki decided to stay silent. Even if it was the truth, it just sounded too hard to believe.
Shiki simply made it clear to Guy—he hadn't done it, and that was enough.
"Ridiculous! The evidence is right here. Just saying it isn't you will change anything? Guy, are you really going to favor him like this?"
Guy stood frozen in place, hesitating slightly.
Before him was the hardworking and youthful boy he deeply valued—on the other side stood an undeniable fact.
He absolutely refused to believe Shiki would do something like this. However, as a ninja, he shouldn't be hesitating now.
"What happened to our youth! Why did this have to happen?" Guy held his head, unsure of what to do next.
Torune Aburame glanced at Guy and said indifferently, "What you choose to do is your own affair. Just don't interfere with my mission anymore."
Then, Torune drew another kunai.
He began walking toward Shiki Uzumaki again.
"No! Nobody can leave here until this matter is completely cleared up!" Immediately, Guy blocked Torune's path.
"Cleared up? The facts are staring us in the face. Exactly how do you plan to clear things up?" Torune snapped impatiently.
In truth, Might Guy had already delayed him far too long without reason. If this continued, unexpected variables might appear.
"No! At the very least, we must seek permission from Lord Hokage first!"
"He's just an ordinary rogue ninja. Do we really need to bother Lord Hokage about this? Move aside right now, or I'll have no choice but to treat you as an accomplice to a traitor," Torune threatened.
Truth be told, Torune was still quite young himself and had only ever read reports about Might Guy being a Jonin who relied solely on Taijutsu.
When he first saw Might Guy's file, he had shown complete disbelief.
How could someone relying solely on Taijutsu become a Jonin?
Most likely, that Jonin title was merely a reward for years of service to Konoha.
Moreover, Torune believed there wasn't anyone capable of defeating him using only hand-to-hand combat.
After saying all that, he had already given plenty of face to this Jonin named Guy. If he kept blocking the way, Torune would definitely attack.
Torune's disrespect didn't anger Might Guy—instead, he begged, "Let Shiki Uzumaki meet with Lord Hokage just once before making any judgment."
Damn it!
Torune couldn't hold back any longer and was about to strike when suddenly another voice came from behind.
"Master Guy, this is our mission. We must follow orders." Finally arriving was Fu Yamanaka.
With him were some Anbu ninja who had been thrown off earlier by Shiki Uzumaki and hadn't participated in the first chase and capture operation.
"You've seen it yourself, Master Guy—they're setting me up! They won't give me any chance to meet Lord Hokage, the Third! You understand? Meeting him has always been my goal on this journey. Please, give me a chance."
This was Shiki Uzumaki's final gamble. If Might Guy didn't believe him, then Shiki had absolutely no hope left.
Without hesitation, Might Guy showed his trust between master and apprentice. After hearing Shiki's words, he shouted, "That's the spirit of youth! Facing all darkness yet still pursuing the light after the storm! Shiki, chase after that light! I'll hold them off here!"
[Eight Gates, Sixth Gate, View Gate: Open!]
With a thunderous roar, Might Guy blasted open the Sixth Gate.
Unlike Shiki and Lee, whose training was much shorter, he could jump straight to the Sixth Gate without unlocking each one step by step.
[Chakra Air Wave] surged explosively, creating a powerful shockwave.
The Chakra Air Wave was so fierce that even these Chunin barely kept their balance. Some of them, who had lived through the Nine-Tails attack years ago, thought the figure at the center looked just like a human-shaped tailed beast.
