Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 - I don't like people who lie to me.

I moved even closer to Phobos, and she began trembling even more violently. It was as if she might faint at any moment. "I asked what you came here to do."

Tsk!

Phobos clicked her tongue, and with difficulty, began to speak.

"We came to try and make a deal with you," she said.

When those words left her mouth, I immediately knew it was a lie. Still, I was curious to hear what kind of lie she would tell, so I asked, "A deal? What kind of deal?" I tilted my head, pretending to be confused.

I noticed the corner of Phobos's lips lift slightly.

"We came to make a peace agreement. We want the elves to live in Rakia. We seek your protection in such a delicate moment."

What kind of joke is that? A delicate moment? Didn't she just win a war?

I thought the country was already doing better after she took control of it.

"Our protection? Aren't you strong enough?"

Phobos continued with her lie. I didn't even know gods could lie so blatantly and so continuously like that!

"Monsters have started appearing near Rakia, and our strongest soldiers were killed…" Phobos stared at me. She knows I was the one who killed them. Those were their strongest adventurers? Are they kidding me?

"Monsters? But monsters don't appear that often outside the dungeon."

It's true that monsters appear outside the dungeon, and that number has increased recently according to Serie, but it's nothing to worry about when you have strong adventurers on your side.

'There are plenty of strong adventurers around here.'

Even if they're almost fainting because of me.

"I see. But wouldn't you be able to handle monsters like those? There are many strong adventurers around here. For example, him." I pointed at the man who had warned Phobos about me.

He was the calmest among them, despite suffering.

"Me!?" the man exclaimed, surprised.

"Yes, you. I don't quite understand this whole level thing, but you must be level three or four, right? You should be able to deal with such easy threats."

"That's…"

"He's not as strong as you think," Phobos said. I could hear her teeth grinding slightly.

"I see." I sighed and turned my back. "But I'm sorry, I don't think I want to make a deal…" Then I spun around suddenly and pointed my staff at Phobos. "With someone who lies to me…"

I looked coldly at her, as if I could kill her with just my gaze.

Phobos's eyes widened, and she was terrified.

Not just her—everyone behind her was terrified too. They started screaming in despair and begging for forgiveness.

Phobos then lowered her head and hit her forehead against the ground.

"FORGIVE ME! PLEASE, FORGIVE ME!"

It was the first time I had ever seen a god beg for their life so pathetically.

##

POV: Phobos

'What do I do? What do I do?' My body kept trembling uncontrollably as I pressed my forehead against the ground. The aura emanating from her body was terrifying—I could barely even breathe.

'I'm going to die. I'm going to die. I'm going to die.'

I kept repeating that in my mind as despair consumed me.

Then I heard footsteps approaching.

Step… Step… Step…

They were slow, dreadful steps.

I felt someone's hand touch my arm. I looked to the side and saw one of the generals touching me. His face was pale and completely lifeless. His eyes were shaking, and tears streamed down his face.

He was close to fainting.

Then I looked forward.

She blocked the sun, and I couldn't look up.

"Look at me," she said, her tone freezing cold.

Trembling, I lifted my head, and my eyes met hers. Her eyes held no compassion at all—cold and unfeeling. It was like she was looking at a mere piece of trash. She sees me as trash.

Even though I was terrified, it angered me.

I clenched my teeth and fists.

"Why did you lie to me?" she asked again.

"I…"

I wanted to tell her it wasn't a lie, but I couldn't. If I said that, I was certain I'd die instantly.

"I'm sorry… I'm sorry…" I began to repeat it over and over, but that only seemed to irritate her even more.

Strike!

Her staff hit me directly. Right in the face.

I flew to the side, rolling on the ground.

I brought my hands to my face and felt my bones completely shattered. It was the first time I had ever felt such pain. I didn't know it was possible to feel so much pain while using this body.

I never thought a god like me could feel something like this.

'What is this?'

My hands were stained with blood, and I noticed my mouth was missing teeth.

I must be unrecognizable now.

"Goddess!" one of the generals shouted and tried to run toward me, but…

Vuosh…

Something flew toward him, and in an instant, his body was cut in half. His organs spilled across the ground. I vomited everything in my stomach. The vomit mixed with blood.

"Don't even think about getting closer," she said coldly.

I looked back and screamed.

"Do something!"

Even with my broken teeth and wounded tongue, I managed to send that message to them.

When I did, some tried to stand and help me, while others were completely incapacitated.

"Filthy pigs," I heard the voice of the elf queen, and then—

BOOM!

Something erupted from the ground, and seconds later, they were all gone. All my men vanished in an instant.

"You monster. You soulless monster. MONSTER!"

"Yes, I am a monster." She smiled and pointed her staff at me.

Before I could open my mouth again, everything went dark.
