Chapter 4 - Tapestry...

The void...

Nothing...

In the beginning there was nothing and everything all at once.

The great neverending Tapestry of Fate

Birthed the Great Loom.

And for the first time in eternity or no time at all.

Existence was woven into creation

The Great Loom brought forth time , space and reality.

It weaved together with threads of gold, silver and colours unknown

The ever-expanding universe, the stars and the very notion of "Life".

The result?

Wonderous Chaos.

From supernovas to blackholes to this tiny speck of a planet inhabited by slightly evolved primates called "Humans"...

The man closed the book he held ,a gentle smile on his aged yet bright face.

He sat on a worn yet sturdy chair surrounded by curious gazes.

"But Mr.Garron, how can that be possible? Everything isn't nothing... It makes no sense!"

The remark came from the smallest of the bunch, brown hair and a pair of hazel eyes that shone with curiosity and wisdom far beyond his age.

The middle-aged man gave a hearty chuckle, a sound the children had grown far too accustomed to.

"Think on it Linas, not everything is as it seems at a glance.

Everyone sees and hears the world a bit differently."

He rubbed his stubbled chin, his amber eyes moving across the room.

"And there exists many things...many things mortals like us just cannot fathom."

His eyes suddenly distant and thoughtful, looked out the window by his side, admiring the sunset, before standing up from his chair, out of his thoughts, taking a deep breath and putting on an easing smile to calm the tense children.

"Ok everyone! Your parents must be waiting, and the last thing I need is complaints.

Go home, eat well, sleep well and I'll see you all next week."

He announced, smiling

"Thank you, Mr.Garron!"

The children all said one by one, as they left the wooden cabin into the evening village air.

When the last child waved, running off, Garron eased back into his chair, reopening the book.

the dying light filtering through the window,

painting his rugged features in solemn shades of amber.

"unfathomable things...indeed."

Thud...Splosh...Thud...Splosh

I stayed hidden within one of the many dusty and dark cells watching the silver behemoth lumbering through once again.

'It seems the patrols aren't random...'

I came to that conclusion after watching the towering being, they called "The First".

Every 15 minutes or so, it passed by.

After it vanished down the stretching halls, I exited my cell, carefully walking into the hallway.

"Rusty, it's gone...come on out"

I spoke firm yet quietly, not wanting to attract unwanted attention.

Rustle...Clang

"I told you to stop calling me that!"

Rusty and his gang of 3 made their way back into the halls.

"So..."

I continued, my eyes scanning around.

"How do you propose we get out of this place rusty?"

Rusty maintained silence , seemingly contemplating, the tangled strings within his azure body thrumming with a faint pulse.

"Hey, Hammel, should we tell him or?"

Rusty enquired, descending lower.

Blirp...Blop..Plip...Plip

The larger dark blue slime bubbled, the strings within emanating a faint hum, though not as strong as rusty's.

"I see..I see"

Rusty bubbled, turning and floating, ascending to my eye level.

"Hammel and I, the great leader, have decided to share with you our knowledge."

I nodded quickly, not wasting the opportunity to find any sense of clarity, easing my foggy mind.

"Me and my friends have been here a rather long time.."

Rusty continued, his childish boy voice firm.

"We don't know how long... maybe a couple years or more, long before you awoke.

We too wanted to leave this wretched place but... the challenges proved extremely perilous."

He continued, floating around absent-mindedly.

"Not only is there 'The First' on constant patrol, many sections of these winding hallways are closed off with massive stone walls, not to mention the traps that we occasionally run into."

He bubbled, a soft plip, which I assume was a sigh.

"But this wouldn't have stopped us... the problem is that we don't know where to look, how or if there even is a path to freedom.

We've searched a small portion of these halls but still no clues or signs or anything whatsoever."

"In other words we're stuck..."

I finished his thought, his silence a non-verbal agreement.

The torches lining the wall dimmed, their flames flickering lightly as a familiar sound echoed in the distance.

Thud...Splosh...Thud...Splosh

I sighed, making my way back to the corner of my dark cell.

Sitting down, back leaning on the wall, as I waited out the growing sound of slime.

I sighed once again, staring at the desolate ceiling of moss.

'I seriously hate this...'
