Chapter 11 - Chapter 10:Moonfang Isle

The next morning broke over the Crimson Raiju with a pale, silver light. The sea was calm, almost unnaturally still, as if the world itself was holding its breath.

Kael stood alone on the quarterdeck, eyes closed, feeling the faint hum of the system evolving in the back of his mind. The Adaptive Growth Protocol had unlocked during the night quietly, without fanfare. No explosive power spike. No sudden godhood. Just a subtle shift, like a muscle remembering how to move.

He opened the interface.

[Adaptive Growth Protocol – Phase 1 Active]

Core Changes:

• Training Efficiency +30% (All crew)

• Haki Growth Acceleration (Observation & Armament only)

• Devil Fruit Synergy Slot Unlocked (Max 2 per user; second fruit must be compatible)

• Crew Synergy Bonus: Shared Experience Pool (Crew gains partial XP from each other's training)

• Threat Scaling: Enemies now adapt to crew strength over time

No cheats. No instant mastery. Just a framework that rewarded effort.

Kael exhaled slowly. Good. Now we'll train.

He turned toward the main deck.

"Everyone, meet me on the deck." His voice boomed throughout the ship.

The crew quickly gathered: Yamato stretching with Takeru over her shoulder, Maki wiping her blade clean, Betty leaning on her flag-spear, Gorran wiping soot from his hands, Carmen carrying a steaming pot of coffee, and Richie padding silently at Yamato's heels.

Kael's voice carried clearly over the deck.

"We're not strong enough yet. Not for what's coming."

His gaze met each of their eyes.

"So I decided we're going to train hard every day. Starting now."

He pulled out the copies of the Rokushiki manual he had given Maki.

"Rokushiki first Soru, Geppo, Tekkai, Shigan, Rankyaku, Kami-e. We'll master the Marines' Six Powers. No shortcuts."

His gaze then settled on Yamato.

"Yamato, would you mind training us in basic Observation and Armament Haki?"

Yamato's grin was instant, wide, and fierce.

"Thought you'd never ask, Captain."

She cracked her knuckles.

"We'll start with Observation first. Focus. The goal is to feel the world around you. Then, Armament makes your body a weapon."

The crew nodded, determination settling over them like armor.

Kael looked at his crew with a sense of pride. "After we master Rokushiki and the two basic forms of Haki, we can move on to more advanced forms. We'll also engage in sparring."

They all nodded in agreement before dispersing for breakfast, when a shadow passed overhead.

A News Coo flapped overhead, dropping a fresh paper across the deck.

Kael caught one with ease.

His eyes widened at the front page:

Straw Hat Luffy – 85,000,000 Beli

(Romored Son of Monkey D. Dragon)

Raen D. Kael – "Storm Horn" – 75,000,000 Beli

Yamato – "Oni Princess" – 65,000,000 Beli

Belo Betty – "Flag Bearer" – 45,000,000 Beli

Maki Zen'in – "Cursed Blade" – 60,000,000 Beli

Gorran – "Forge Demon" – 35,000,000 Beli

Higher than expected.

His gaze lingered on Luffy's name for a second longer than necessary.

The Straw Hats had jumped to Luffy, now sitting at 85 million, Zoro at 60 million, Sanji at 55 million, and the rest scaled accordingly.

Betty whistled low. "Looks like we have some competition, Captain."

Kael folded the paper and let out a laugh.

"Then we can't let them outdo us."

At that moment, the transponder snail rang, and Nami's voice crackled through.

"Kael? You there?"

He answered. "Yeah. Are you all safe?"

Luffy's voice exploded in the background. "Kael! Nami said we're heading to Reverse Mountain! Come with us!"

"Sorry, Luffy, I can't. I have to make a stop first." Kael responded.

He could hear the change in Nami's voice after getting his response.

Kael looked at the map Betty had spread across the table. He looks over the map before stopping at Alabasta. "We can all meet in Alabasta."

Nami had no choice but to agree. "Stay safe, dummy."

"You too, princess." Kael ended the call.

Betty leaned over the map, tracing a finger along a forgotten route.

"Moonfang Isle," she said quietly. "That's where the vault is. Old Revolutionary intel calls it the 'Island of the Moon Serpents.' Void Century ruins. Gold veins. And something buried deeper, something the World Government wants gone."

Kael's eyes narrowed with determination.

"Then that's our next stop."

The Crimson Raiju sliced through the water like a bloodstained ghost, crimson sails burning against the pale horizon as it glided toward the jagged cliffs of Moonfang Isle.

Jagged cliffs walled in the crescent-shaped harbor, raw gold laced through the rock in bright, stubborn veins that hinted at the strength buried below.

[System Notification: Island Discovered – Moonfang Isle]

[Treasure Vein Detected | Vault Construction Available]

[Base Status: Registration Pending – Reach Island Core to Establish Stronghold]

Kael read the final line twice as he stepped ashore. The scent of mist, salt, and opportunity thick in his lungs. His golden horns gleamed under the pale light, casting an imposing figure against the rugged beauty of the island.

"This will be ours," he declared, sounding like distant thunder.

Yamato cracked her neck, stepping forward with her signature grin. "Finally, we have a place to train without some idiot Marines interrupting."

Maki stretched, smirking. "Let's go find some treasure."

Betty surveyed the coast. "Excellent choice, Captain. This island is perfect for a steady base."

Carmen hauled crates of spices over one shoulder. "And a kitchen with an actual roof. Praise the sea."

Behind her, Richie let out a low growl, purple mane rippling as he padded to Kael's side.

Gorran's eyes gleamed. "I hope this island has rare ores."

A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched his lips. "Crew, let's reach the island core."

The Vault

They followed the system-rewarded treasure map deep into the island's heart through dense jungle, past ancient trees and vines, down a spiraling stone path into the earth. The sound of dripping water echoed off the walls. Ancient chains and talismans barred a massive vault door.

Carved into the arch: The Vault of the Moon Serpents

Kael grinned. "This sounds like our kind of trouble."

The tunnels tested them: spear shot from hidden slits in the walls. Stone plates collapsed underfoot. Venomous mist poured from serpent mouths carved into the walls.

Yamato's kanabō shattered spike arrays in a single swing.

Maki's blade split falling slabs before they could crush anyone.

Betty's presence hardened morale, steadying the crew through the gauntlet.

Then the guardian came.

A six-headed hydra, scales of dull gold and silver. Its eyes burned with ancient instinct. Toxin dripped from its fangs, hissing where it touched stone.

Kael stepped forward with a feral grin. "This one's mine."

[Hebi Hebi no Mi – Model: Kuraokami | Zoan Form Engaged]

His storm-serpent form burst outward, storm-like scales gleaming. Wings of mist unfurled behind him.

The hydra roared.

Lightning answered.

"Thunder Pulse."

The first strike staggered it.

The second burned through two necks.

The third split the chamber in white light.

When the smoke cleared, severed heads writhed on the stone.

Richie lunged forward, crushing one of the severed heads in his jaws with a savage snap.

Silence fell.

Carmen exhaled slowly. "Damn. I'm sailing with a crew full of monsters."

Gorran crouched beside the corpse, already examining scale density and bone structure with greedy interest.

The vault door groaned open.

Inside, the chamber walls were carved with spiraling serpent reliefs, each scale inlaid with faint traces of gold. At the center stood twin stone altars.

Upon them sat two Devil Fruits.

The first was deep violet, its surface coiled like a resting wolf-serpent hybrid. Crimson sigils pulsed faintly across its skin.

[Item Acquired: Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Raiju]

Mythical Zoan – Raijin's Thunder Wolf

Abilities: Hybrid & Full Form | Lightning Devour | Stormstep | Thunder Howl | Shockwave Generation

The second fruit shimmered with a pale silver light. Scales marbled beneath translucent glass-like skin. Crescent markings spiraled toward its stem like a crown. Moonlight seemed trapped within it.

[Item Acquired: Hebi Hebi no Mi – Model: Tsukiyomi Medousa]

Mythical Zoan – Moon Serpent Goddess

Abilities: Hybrid & Full Form | Petrifying Gaze (temporary petrification under moonlight) | Lunar Eclipse Veil (shadow invisibility) | Serpent Moon Bind (constricting shadow chains) | Tidal Serpent Wrath (tsunami-level water manipulation under full moon)

The air around it felt colder.

Heavier.

The carvings on the walls depicted a woman crowned in moonlight, serpents coiling from her hair, kingdoms frozen at her feet.

Kael felt it.

Something older.

Something patient.

The system pulsed again.

[Warning: Fruit responds strongly to Maki Zen'in]

The chamber went quiet.

Maki stepped closer. For a split second, the fruit pulsed in sync with her heartbeat.

Yamato's eyes gleamed. "The storm wolf and the moon serpent… born from the same legend."

Betty studied the second fruit, repeating the name slowly.

"Hebi Hebi no Mi – Model: Tsukiyomi Medousa… I've never even heard of it. Not even in Revolutionary archives."

Carmen whistled softly. "They both sound terrifying."

Kael turned both fruits over in his hands.

Temptation gnawed.

Two Mythical Zoans. Complementary powers: thunder and moon, serpent and wolf.

For a fleeting second, greed whispered.

Power layered upon power, Apex upon apex.

He looked at his crew.

Power isn't hoarded in this crew; it's shared.

"Neither of these is for me," he said quietly. "They belong to whoever proves strong enough to claim them."

Maki stepped closer to the silver fruit. For a split second, it pulsed brighter in her presence.

The fruits dissolved into the system storage in a shimmer of light.

[Devil Fruit Limit Updated: Max 2 per user. The second fruit must be compatible.]

Around them lay the rest of the vault's spoils:

Chests of gold and ancient relics.

A Supreme Grade blueprint wrapped in faded silk.

The broken hilt of a sword that once split the sky.

A Poneglyph pulsing with buried history.

A tassel spear. Rare ores.

A crystal sphere vibrated faintly.

And at the chamber's heart—

The core of a tempest.

Before Kael could speak, the shadows shifted.

Cipher Pol Ambush

Black suits. White masks.Cipher Pol.

"Target confirmed. Retrieve all assets from the Vault of the Moon Serpents."

A dozen agents dropped from stone arches like executioners.

Kael's eyes darkened. Storm mist curled from his breath. "We're not giving up our treasure."

Yamato's kanabō struck the stone floor.

It cracked.

"Finally," she grinned. "Real prey."

Maki unsheathed her blade.

Gorran rolled his shoulders. "It's been too long since I broke the bones of government dogs."

Carmen vanished behind a pillar. A knife flashed. One agent dropped before he hit the ground.

Richie roared and tore through a rifleman.

"Storm Pulse."

Lightning detonated through the chamber, vaporizing three agents in a single blast.

The tunnels magnified everything.

Metal shrieked.

Stone shattered.

Haki clashed in tight quarters.

Yamato's strikes cratered walls.

Betty's spear pierced through two agents at once.

Kael shifted into Kuraokami form, storm-made flesh and scaled wrath. His claws carved through masked assassins like wet parchment.

When the last agent fell, silence flooded back in.

Mist hissed off Kael's body.

He did not look satisfied.

He looked awakened.

Marineford – Fleet Admiral's Office

Sengoku slammed the bounty sheets onto his desk.

"Your grandsons are becoming a national crisis."

Garp grinned lazily. "Which one this time?"

"Straw Hat Luffy caused chaos in Loguetown. Ace is destabilizing the New World. And now Kael, the sole survivor of Aetheron, the Buccaneer-Oni hybrid, has taken Kaido's daughter under his flag."

Garp's grin thinned.

Sengoku's glare sharpened as he continued, his voice heavy. "You of all people know that the World Government has a standing kill order on Aetheron survivors. They're labeled 'living relics'. Kael's face will be in every Cipher Pol file if he keeps moving; he'll draw the attention of every assassin."

Garp stared out the window.

"…Kael always valued family," he said at last. "After Aetheron, that's what kept him human."

Sengoku's eyes hardened.

"What happens if he loses that?"

Garp's voice dropped.

"Then you'll see a storm that rivals Rocks and Roger."

Silence.

Sengoku exhaled slowly.

"You trained him yourself."

Garp took a long drink from the whiskey Sengoku offered.

"He's one of the few who mastered my fist techniques."

Sengoku stared.

"What kind of monster did you raise?"

Garp slammed the glass down, shattering it.

"That boy isn't a monster." His tone lost all humor. "I raised him to protect his family. Something I can't do as the Hero of the Marines."

A pause.

"I told them to follow what they believe is right."

Sengoku looked tired.

"That's what worries me."

Onigashima – Kaido's Throne Room

Kaido smashed his sake bottle, eyes narrowing at the spy report.

A photograph slid across the floor of Yamato and Kael, side by side, hands clasped.

Not political.

Personal.

Rage surged.

His roar cracked stone walls.

The air shifted.

Kaido did not move at first.

Then the sky above Onigashima split.

His Conqueror's Haki erupted without warning.

Walls fractured.

Beasts collapsed unconscious.

The sake barrel in his grip shattered into powder.

The ceiling splintered under Conqueror's Haki.

"That brat dares touch my daughter? I'll crush him myself!"

The temperature dropped.

The ground cracked beneath his boots.

King stepped forward, massive frame steady.

"Kaido-sama, wait."

Kaido's eyes burned. "What?!"

King's voice was calm.

"Leaving Wano now would expose us. The borders are fragile. Send Jack, let him test the boy. Let's see if he is worthy to stand by Lady Yamato. If he fails, then we move to bring her home."

Kaido's fist clenched, cracking the throne arm. "She is my blood. My heir."

King met his gaze.

"And she chose her path."

Kaido's rage simmered, then cooled to a deadly focus.

"Fine. Jack, test the strength of that kid with Yamato. If he fails to impress, you bring me his head."

Jack bowed low.

Kaido rose slowly.

"I hope he is worthy to be my son-in-law."

Far across the sea

The storm answered.

A Solitary Island – Kuraigana Castle

Mihawk sat in the ruined throne room, wine glass in hand, bounty posters scattered across the table.

Hawk eyes lingered on one: "Storm Horn" Kael.

A hybrid wielding a broadsword with storm power.

"Interesting. Perhaps he is worthy to cross blades with me."

Moonfang Isle – Aftermath

Dripping water. Broken stone. The smell of ozone.

Kael wiped his blade clean.

"We're not done," he said quietly.

Betty traced the Poneglyph's ancient script.

"Moonfang wasn't just a vault," she murmured. "It was a weapons stronghold. The Ancient Kingdom hid storm technology here."

She looked up.

"And now the Government knows we've found it."

Thunder rolled distantly across the island.

Kael's grin was slow, predatory.

"Good, let them come."

Stormlight flickered faintly around his golden horns.

The shadows shifted again.

More black suits emerged, Cipher Pol reinforcements. They were deadlier than the first wave.

"Assets unsecured. Engage and retrieve."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

The island erupted with renewed chaos.
