Last night had left me drained. I had trained until my stamina and chakra were nearly depleted, but I managed to level up.
After that, I was finally able to rest — and it didn't take much. The moment I hit the bed, I was so tired I only realized it was morning when sunlight hit my face.
My parents had already left for work, but they'd prepared breakfast for me. They were definitely very loving.
Before leaving, I took a final glance at the backyard. Some of the small branches I had created during training were still there, swaying lightly in the wind.
I did my best not to destroy the backyard while training, and I knew I had made real progress.
With that in mind, I left the house and made my way to the ninja academy.
The streets of Konoha bustled as usual. Merchants came and went, ninjas rushed past, and all kinds of people moved about for their own reasons, filling the village with life.
After a few minutes, I arrived at the dojo. Class was calm, but my classmates' anxiety was palpable. Everyone was talking about the graduation ceremony happening the next day.
"Riku!" a voice called out. It was Takeshi — according to my memories, one of the loudest students in class.
"Are you ready for graduation? If you fall behind, I'll be Hokage next!" he laughed, turning — as always — every conversation into a competition.
"Ready? Sure," I said, trying to sound confident. "But becoming Hokage isn't really one of my goals."
'What I really need is to keep pushing this mission forward and strengthen my Mokuton.' I stood there, lost in thought, a determined look on my face.
Takeshi looked a bit confused, but before he could answer, the sensei walked in and called the class to attention.
"Well, class, tomorrow's the big day," he said, crossing his arms as he scanned the room. "Graduation will be the first real test for many of you. I hope you're ready to show what you've learned."
The room fell silent for a few seconds, then the murmuring resumed. Some were nervous; others looked confident. Me? I wasn't so sure.
'If I ignore missions for too long, will they disappear? Like temporary events in games... Better not risk it. I need to get more information from Itachi today.'
After class, I didn't waste time. I left the academy and headed straight to the village center, where people usually exchanged information.
It wasn't hard to overhear rumors — especially when it came to famous ninjas like Itachi Uchiha. He was, after all, a well-known name.
"Ah, Itachi?" said a fishmonger as he arranged his stock. "They say he's a genius. A prodigy of the Uchiha clan. But he's also very... peculiar. Doesn't talk much."
"A real prodigy," added a woman buying fish. "My grandson talks about him constantly. They say even the jounin respect him."
The information wasn't particularly helpful. It was all stuff I already knew — or things that didn't matter. I was getting tired of chasing my tail trying to find anything useful about him, especially since he seemed to vanish during the day.
But then, just as I passed by a weapons shop, something caught my attention.
"Riku, right?" the shop owner, a burly man with scars on his face, called out to me.
"I heard you're asking about Itachi. A word of advice: be careful. He's a genius, yes, but also someone no one fully understands. If you want something from him, be direct."
"News travels fast around here," I said to the salesman.
"Young man, when you're looking for a prodigy from the Uchiha clan like him — especially being a Senju — you should know that soon everyone will be talking about it," the salesman said, his tone sharper when referring to me as a Senju.
I didn't fully understand, but my choice to reincarnate as a Senju had caused some differences in the story — something I should have expected, of course.
I had been mistreated a few times in the past — not because my family came from the main Senju house, but from one of its branches.
Still, I had no time to waste arguing with that salesman.
I thanked him for the tip and went on my way.
Despite his final tone, the shop owner's words stuck in my mind: "If you want something from him, be direct."
Maybe that was exactly what I needed to do. But where to start?
The sun was already setting when I decided to return to the place where I had found him before: the dango shop. It wasn't a guarantee, but it was the only place I knew he had been.
When I arrived, I looked around. No sign of him.
I sighed, disappointed, and turned to leave.
That's when I heard a calm, familiar voice behind me.
"You've been looking for me all day, haven't you?"
I turned, and there he was: Itachi Uchiha, with his composed posture and analytical gaze. He stood there as if he knew exactly where I would be.
"So, Riku," he continued, crossing his arms. "What do you want from me?"
