Chapter 2 - A Bad Omen

Kai woke up on a grassy field, the sun was high in the sky but it wasn't hot, in fact, he didn't feel anything besides the grass benath him and the wind brushing through his fur. The grass was slightly tall, reaching up to his knees if he was standing, but it wasn't rigid at all, it actually felt nice against his fur. White the white fluffy clouds were scattered across the sky, and the lands were flat as far as the eye could see, it was rather... nice, tranquil, part of him wanted to stay here, but unsure of how he got here, he got up anyways, trying to think of where he fell asleep at. Last he'd recalled he had fallen asleep at home. Deciding it best not to panic, he started to wander along the planes.

After a bit of walking through these soft fields, the skies darkened unnaturally quickly with dark heavy clouds blotting out the sun and vibrant blue sky as it quickly began to start raining, pouring heavily, blue lightning was striking all around him, scared of all this, the noise, the blinding flashes, and how quickly the weather turned bad, the dragonling began to run. After a few short moments the boy reached a forested area that he hadn't recalled seeing before but he didn't bother waste time questioning or thinking about it as he continued to run, he was strongly afraid of being struck; but that wasn't the only thing that sent fear through his body, it was the sudden sense of dread and danger that had sparked it even further.

The fear, like the shockwave, the fuel it was, propelled him forward, and he began to hear chanting as he sprinted through the dark dank woods. "Take the one of ancient blood, let him become my power; let him be the last of them, take his being and shatter his soul." A chilling voice chanted, the chants growing louder no matter where he ran, so once he saw a small crawlspace inside of a tree just big enough for him to fit inside and he hid in it. The chanting stopped a second later.

Thanks to the silence—aside from the surrounding rain and thunder—his body began to calm down, with the adrenaline slowly dissipating from his nerves. However, he only got a couple moments of reprieve before suddenly a face appeared in front of him, it was a figure in a black cloak, the face was human, from what he could see; it looked like a young woman, but he didn't get to see much as the second her head appeared in front of him he was startled awake. Not that he was able to see more than her mouth.

Waking up in a cold sweat, with labored breathing, and a pounding heart, he looked around his room in a panic, gathering his bearings and analyzing his room to help calm himself down. "Okay... okay... you're awake Kai... everything's fine, you're fine." He breathed, at this time he was really young. The room, well, let's be honest, it was a hole in a cave, and his bed was an alcove in that cave, though the room was round and had some trinkets on a wooden stump that had been separated from its roots and put next to the alcove, one of those trinkets was a mystical jade necklace that, despite his protests, his parents made him wear, at least when he went out, the beads were made of a clear marble, the part on both sides where the beads would connect to the part holding the crystal was a silver piece shaped like a fire, having 3 sections that were colored differently, the outer most section of the fire was blue like ice, the middle one was a mixture of white and gray, and the inner most part was colored like fire, the flame shaped piece was conntected to the part holding the jade crystal rather then strung on the rope that held the beads, the jade green crystal on the necklace usually glowed. He hated the necklace, mainly because his parents made him wear it whenever he went to go outside. After he had settled down fully, and understood he was fully awake, no getting up only to get jumpscared and wake up for real, the chanting from his nightmare was playing over and over again in his head, very vividly, and it left him confused and concerned, one thing that stood out to him was something that was said in his very realistic feeling nightmare: "Take the one of ancient blood." What is ancient blood? The boy thought to himself, and he knew, there were but two people he could go to about this.

He knew better than to take anything in a dream as anything actually real or anything of the sort, but he couldn't help but feel like that was somehow important, considering he could clearly remember it. Kai decided to ask his parents about it, afraid—in classic dream fashion—he might forget if he was too late in telling anyone he did the only sensible thing one could do in that moment. He ran to his parents 'room' not having noticed that the crystal in the necklace wasn't glowing like it always did and yelled to wake his parents up, and since it was very early morning they were still asleep. "Ma! Dad!" He yelled in a desperate attempt to wake them up as quickly as possible.
