Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: The Light Begins

Chapter Two: The Light Begins

Golden sunlight dripped slowly over the sidewalks of the city as Jon, Kyle, and Wally stepped out of the gates of Metropolis High after a long school day.

Kyle walked beside Jon, his backpack slung over one shoulder with a look of casual indifference, while Wally bounced ahead of them, hopping between the sidewalk and the street—his usual restless self.

> Jon (laughing): Are you ever gonna slow down, or are you planning to act like a hyper kid forever?

> Wally (still jumping): Technically, we are kids. Even our heroic titles say so. So why not enjoy it?

Kyle just offered a faint smile, watching them. The atmosphere between them was light, familiar—a mix of deep friendship and camaraderie built over years of shared adventures, big and small.

To an outsider, they looked like ordinary teens.

Jon Kent — Superboy, son of Superman.

Kyle Tennyson — son of Ben and Supergirl, half-human and half-Kryptonian, carrying the heavy legacy of two heroes who once saved the multiverse.

Wally West — future Kid Flash, successor to the legendary Flash and Barry Allen's nephew.

They had known each other since childhood. Kara (Supergirl) and Superman had always been like siblings, which made Jon and Kyle more than cousins… they were true brothers. As for Kyle and Wally, their bond grew thanks to Ben and Barry's close connection, evolving into an unbreakable friendship.

> Jon (sighing): You know, the weather's perfect for a little patrol tonight. What do you guys think? Wanna head out after sunset?

> Kyle: Sounds good. I feel like I need to fly a bit.

> Wally: Now you're talking! Kid Flash is always ready.

They all laughed. But just before their feet could leave the ground, their eyes caught a flicker of memory… a silent echo from one year ago.

✴️ One Year Ago

Location: Rooftop on the outskirts of Metropolis

Age: 14

Event: After the battle against the alien entity "Sereth"

The city was still healing from the damage, but that rooftop witnessed a moment none of them would ever forget.

Jon sat on the edge, wearing a plain black t-shirt with the red "S" logo blazing on his chest, his eyes gleaming with excitement. He wasn't wearing his glasses—those helped conceal his identity, much like his father's iconic disguise.

> Jon (grinning): That was insane… We literally saved the whole city, guys!

Wally, dressed in his red-and-gray suit with the lightning bolt across his chest, sat beside him chugging an energy drink faster than any human could blink.

> Wally (cheerfully): Okay, but for real— we need names. We can't keep being "those kids who saved the city."

> Jon: I mean… if I had to choose, I'd go with Superboy. Not just because of my dad, but because I chose to follow his path.

> Wally (winking): And I'm Kid Flash. Faster than lightning—and I'm just getting started.

Their eyes turned toward Kyle, who stood silently near the other edge, wearing black jeans and a loose green button-up shirt over a black tee. Like Jon, he wasn't wearing his glasses—custom tech like Superman's, designed to magically dull perception and protect their true identities. Some believe they're made from Kryptonian polymer glass, adding to the illusion.

> Jon (calling out): Kyle? You're too quiet. You need a cool name too.

Kyle gave a soft smile, lifting his gaze to the sky.

> Kyle: I don't know… I'm half human with cosmic powers from my dad, and half Kryptonian from my mom. I need a name worthy of both legacies.

> Wally (excited): You literally absorb solar energy, right? The closer you get to a star, the stronger you become.

> Kyle (thinking): Star… energy… nova…

He paused, eyes still on the horizon, then looked back at them with quiet confidence.

> Kyle: How about… Novarion?

Nova from exploding stars… and -rion to give it a legendary edge.

> Jon (impressed): Novarion? That's a seriously awesome name.

> Wally (thrilled): Sounds like someone from another world—but it fits.

> Jon (smiling): Then it's settled. From today on… we're Superboy, Kid Flash, and… Novarion.

They raised their fists in the air as the sun's rays bathed them, as if the sky itself was blessing the birth of a new team.

✴️ Present Day

Metropolis High School – Kyle's Classroom

Back to the present, Kyle sat in his seat, gazing quietly at the classroom door as a new girl walked in.

Her short red hair, pale skin, and haunting silence made her feel like a piece of the night had stepped into the world of light. Her eyes refused to settle anywhere. Yet, something about her presence pulled Kyle in, like a whisper in his bones.

The teacher spoke calmly:

> Teacher: Everyone, please welcome your new classmate… Rachel Roth.

Kyle stared at her a little too long, something stirring in his chest that he couldn't explain.

A strange feeling, like a silent alarm going off in his soul.

There's something… different about her.

And Kyle didn't yet know that this odd sensation was just the beginning—

A flicker of a power still hidden deep within him.
