Chapter 1 - Evidence

Shin: It was a normal day, just like the others. I woke up, I got ready for school, and then I intended to walk there. But suddently, I didn't feel like it.

Doctor: Can you explain?

Shin: No, not really. It's not like I hated school, I just didn't want to go that day.

Doctor: Any thoughts you were having that made you not want to go?

Shin: Well if I remembered anything I would tell you wouldn't I?

Doctor: Would you?

Shin: What are you implying doc?

Doctor: That you're hiding something from me.

Shin: I guess I'll try to remember, but you can't expect me to remember every small detail of a single day.

Doctor: I'm sorry but we need you to. Until then you can't leave.

Shin: I see, well I don't really have a problem staying here. I enjoy the peace and quiet.

Shin looks outside of the window, then looks back to the doctor.

Doctor: Yeah, this hospital is nice isn't it.

Shin: Yeah, so why did you choose this job?

Doctor: Well you see, my mom had a drinking problem, and she would be drunk most of the time. You know, back then I was kind of dumb. I used to think it was a mental illness, and I wanted to help people with mental illnesses.

Shin: Well that's kind of heroic in a sense isn't it?

Doctor: I guess. You know, I'm happy to have this job. I get to talk with people like you, who are really nice, but just broken by trauma.

Shin: What are you talking about? My life has been perfectly normal.

The doctor looks away, and then looks at Shin again.

Doctor: Well Shin, I'm on break. Care to join me for lunch?

Shin: Of course, why not.

Shin gets up from his hospital bed, and they go to the hospital cafeteria. The walk till there was pure silence.

Doctor: It doesn't look very delicious, but I'll take what I can get.

Shin and the doctor start eating. They talk while eating.

Shin: I'm sorry, I just remembered but don't doctors eat in their offices?

Doctor: I try to act like a patient, I believe it helps understand them better.

Shin: I don't really think it works. But still, why am I here? I'm perfectly fine.

Doctor: I think that too, but the police wanted me to learn about you. It is said you were caught killing a person. Do you know about the "unknown killer"? He's all over the papers.

Shin: Of course. I find papers amusing.

Doctor: And why is that?

Shin: It just seems interesting, haven't put much thought into it.

Doctor: Do you usually not think much?

Shin: I wouldn't say I'm an overthinker at least.

The doctor finishes his meal.

Doctor: Well, I will have a chat with a police. Cheer up tho, it's your first day here.

The doctor leaves the cafeteria, and Shin starts talking to himself.

Shin: Wouldn't this job be for a detective tho? I'm confused. Eh whatever, it doesn't matter, this is my new life.

Shin also finishes his lunch. He gets up and goes to his hospital room.He keeps talking to himself.

Shin: I still think being in a mental hospital is weird though. Oh well, I will get used to it.

Shin suddently falls asleep, and the doctor walks into the room.

Doctor: Oh, he's asleep.

The doctor leaves the room, and there is a detective waiting outside the room.

Detective: So, what do you think?

Doctor: I still don't understand why you don't work with him.

Detective: Well we need to prove he is the "unknown killer" somehow. But we can't because he has no memories really.

Doctor: How does this prove anything.

Detective: If he is held captive, he can't kill. But holding him in a jail wouldn't be worth it. And with your help we can also unravel his past. You get extra payment so you can't really complain.

Doctor: Yeah, that's true. But why is he a suspect anyways?

Detective: Well, he was found crying near a dead body, but he was holding a knife. He kept saying: I killed somebody. No way, I killed somebody.

Doctor: So he is a murderer.

Detective: That's not all. He looked excactly like another person when we found him. When we asked for his name he didn't say Shin. We couldn't ask him more questions at that moment because we had to take him to bring him for questioning. But when we asked him again, he said his name was Shin. But he seemed innocent that time.

Doctor: So you're saying the unknown killer remained unknown because it acted like other people?

Detective: I think it's more than that. I researched the name he gave the first time, and it turned out that he had died.

Doctor: I think you have enough proof honestly.

Detective: I need to know the reason. This was the hardest killer to catch, he has been loose for 7 years.

Doctor: I asked him about the day when the killings began, he didn't remember much but appearantly it was different than his usual daily routine.

Detective: So we might be getting somewhere then.

Doctor: Yeah, I guess so.

Detective: Well, I'm going home. It's night now.

Doctor: Same.

The detective and the doctor had been talking for so long that it became night time. In all that darkness of the night, eyes open. Shin woke up from his sleep...
