Chapter 14 - A certain victory.

'Shit, I am going to die!'

Luhar yelled in his mind, his body leaping back instinctively to avoid getting stabbed in the chest by the thrusting spear.

And while he managed to dodge the first attack by a hair's length, he could not do the same for the one that followed.

A hideous grin appeared on Shisha's face as she sent a straight kick to the side of the man's head.

"Urgh!"

Luhar's eyes rolled over upon impact.

It felt as though his very soul had exited his body, and before he knew it, he was on the ground, too paralyzed to move.

Still holding her leg high, she looked down at the man, disappointed.

"That was all it took to knock you out? I must say, I am not impressed."

She lowered her leg, and her eyes turned to Agis, who was standing there, frozen in shock.

"Now then, my Lord would like to have an audience with you."

Agis gritted his teeth, clearly enraged by the outcome of the battle he had just witnessed.

Then there was also the fact that many of his men were dying on the battlefield with no means of escape.

If the Demon Lord Vani challenged him to a duel and Agis won, it would undoubtedly push the scales in his favor.

"Very well, take me to him," Agis replied, his eyes filled with determination.

"Good choice. And here I thought I would have to beat you to a pulp before you agreed."

Shisha leaped onto the chariot and grabbed the man by the collar.

"Hold on tight. If you fall, it's not my fault."

"What? What do you mean?!"

Agis screamed as Shisha threw him, sending him flying across the battlefield like a rocket.

She followed right after.

After what seemed like forever, Agis felt his face crash against the ground, the impact sending debris flying everywhere.

For a second, he was sure he had broken a bone in his face.

Just as he tried to raise his head…

Baam!

Shisha landed beside him, slamming his head back to the ground with her hand.

"Father, I have returned," she announced.

Agis, struggling to raise his head, could only grunt, powerless against the strength of the woman pinning him down.

Suddenly, his face turned pale when he finally heard the voice of the man in front of him.

"Raise your head, leader of Farglo."

It was a voice so dark it felt as though it could summon the undead.

There was only one person in all the land who could have such a menacing tone.

'The Demon Lord, Vani, is right in front of me,' Agis thought to himself.

He realized Shisha was no longer holding him to the ground. He understood he could now look the Demon Lord in the eye.

This was the man whom no one had seen since he ascended to the throne.

As he raised his head, his gaze met the demon's eyes.

They were red and ominous, as though the stars of the world rested within them.

"Demon Lord Vani…" Agis called out in shock.

Vani stared at the man for a while.

"Agis, though we have never met, I have heard about your deeds from my servants. It would seem that as a king, you have also been forced to make a difficult decision."

Agis calmly stood up, using the back of his hand to wipe the dirt from his face.

"Yes, I am glad you understand, Demon Lord. I intend to take this nation for myself. If challenging you is what I must do to win this war, then so be it."

Shisha couldn't help but frown at that statement. To think a mere lizardman would dare speak in such a way in front of her Lord.

Alice, on the other hand, was rather calm. She tends not to involve herself unless it is truly important. As such, she intended to only watch from the sidelines.

"You wish to challenge me to a duel?" Vani asked, glaring down at Agis.

"Is that not why you have brought me here?"

"That is true." Vani stepped down from the chariot. "However, I didn't think you would foolishly go on with it. Anyhow, if this is what must be done, then I give my permission."

With one hand in his pocket, Vani added, "Once I have killed you, I will have my servant hold your severed head before your soldiers to announce my victory. With your death, their lives will be spared."

Agis, not taking the Demon Lord's words lightly, reached for his back and pulled out a huge axe.

"My name is Agis, leader of the Farglo nation, and today, you shall meet your end."

Vani smiled.

Agis took a step and launched himself forward, mana dancing around his blade as he neared his target.

Clash!

After slashing with his axe, he noticed Vani, who had been standing in front of him, had suddenly disappeared.

"What?"

His eyes scanned his surroundings hastily, but all he could see were Alice and Shisha watching the battle.

What truly terrified him was the fact that he could sense Vani was next to him, yet he could not see him.

His question was answered when a dark mist popped up behind him, and from it, Vani's arms stretched out, grabbing him by the neck.

Before Agis could react, Vani opened his mouth, allowing his fangs to shoot out.

"Ahhh!"

Agis screamed the instant he felt Vani's teeth sink into his skin.

Blood spewed everywhere, and all Agis could do was shake in pain as he screamed for mercy.

It didn't take long for him to fall to his knees, his head facing the ground.

His eyes had turned dark, and the deep injury on his neck had begun to pulse with dark energy.

[You have injected a victim with demon blood.]

[Victim has now become a demon. A name is needed to give the demon a soul.]

Vani ignored the system prompts and grabbed Agis by the head.

"You're so weak. All it took was a few drops of my blood to turn you into a demon. Someone like you can't possibly be my servant. That would be a disgrace to my bloodline."

His fingers dug into the Lizard King's head, yet the lizard did not scream or show any sign of pain.

"You were a good leader, which is why I will not tarnish your honor. You will die a leader as well."

After saying those words, Vani ripped the Lizard King's head from his body.

It took little effort, but still, one could see the king's spine being pulled out along with the head.

In what seemed like the blink of an eye, the Lizard King, Agis, was dead.
