Chapter 2 - Evil and good points.

The next day, Vani was seated at the working deck in his room.

Before the sun even came up, he could hear the voices of people walking around the place.

They had resumed their work.

At first glance, one might think they were just hardworking. But that couldn't be further from the truth.

If they were to slack, and there was something that wasn't to Vani's liking, they would get killed on the spot.

'Or at least the former Vani would.'

The demon king sighed, glancing outside the window where he could see a giant bird soaring in the sky.

'This world is far different than I thought it would be. Whether I like it or not, I am already a part of it.'

He glanced down at the table.

'If I remember correctly, my friend told me the ending of the story. Didn't the demon king Vani become a slave for the other demon kings after his nation fell in battle? Ahh!'

Vani slammed his head on the table.

'What kind of shitty dude doesn't even have the balls to defend his own nation?! I am not becoming a slave to anyone!'

Once the rage subsided, he calmed down.

'Not that there is anything I can do now; the people of this nation hate me. Even if I offered them money that I don't have, they still wouldn't fight for me.'

[You can start by redeeming yourself.]

'You're a system, shut up. How are you even communicating with me?'

[I can only communicate when you want me to communicate. The goddess granted me that access.]

'Is this goddess the one that reincarnated me as well?'

[Yes.]

'Pfft! Of course she is; its always a goddess.'

Vani sat upright, resting his back on the chair.

'Anyways, redeeming myself sounds cool and all, but the state of this nation is in total shambles; only a god's miracle can save this place.'

[You have the power of a god, so you pretty much have the chances.]

'Hmmm—'

Vani stared at the system suspiciously.

'You know, you sound a lot like you're trying to scam me into doing something. Are you trying to scam me into doing something?'

[That is a very unlikely question.]

'Yeah, yeah, sure. Power of a god, huh? So, I have skills for that? Come to think of it, the demon lord is fairly strong, no?'

[Vani's stats.]

[Skill(s):

S-rank skill: King of Demons (You have the abilities of a demon lord, the power to make other demons bow, you are a conqueror of worlds, and you are a slave of none.)

S-rank skill: Barbatos (Immune to all kinds of curses and mental manipulation.)

]

'Oh wow, they both sound like pretty useful skills, though.'

[You currently have:

Good points: 0

Evil points: 10,000 points.]

Vani moved his face closer to the floating screen.

'What are evil and good points?'

[Evil points are gained when you do something evil or are perceived with a bad reputation.

Good points are the opposite of that.]

'And they're useful for?'

[Evil points can be used for upgrading anything you wish to upgrade.]

[Good points are used for summoning, analysis, and magic card shop.]

'It all makes sense now; the former owner of this body is so evil that he didn't rack up a single good point.'

An exasperated sigh left Vani's mouth.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"Excuse me, Lord Vani, I came to call you for breakfast."

That was Alice.

Sighing once again, Vani stood up from the bed.

He approached the door and opened it.

As soon as he presented himself to her, he could already see the surprise etched on her face.

"No way you walked up to the door all by yourself?" she blurted out.

"The hell is that supposed to mean? You were the one who called me for breakfast!" Vani yelled.

"Par—pardon my arrogance, my lord." Alice bowed her head.

[Wow, your reputation is that bad.]

'Shut up, man!'

Soon, Vani made his way to the dining room.

The room itself was huge; a long table was at the center, along with multiple other chairs around it.

At the side were statues of the previous demon kings who ruled the nation of Darkins rightly. Red banners of the nation's emblem were drawn on the walls, covering the open windows and allowing only minimal lighting into the room.

Seated at the table were the two siblings of the demon king, Vani.

First was the older sister, Terra Daliona, a well-known warrior of the vampire race; she was the leader of the clan.

Second was Rebecca Daliona, the younger sister, the leader of the Demihuman army; she was a wolfkin.

While their food was already present before them, they wouldn't dare touch it.

Not before their brother was seated in his chair.

Rebecca was already staring at her food, practically drooling.

"Have some manners, little sister; I assure you, the food is not running away," said Terra.

She was beautiful, having long blonde hair and a beret on her head.

Her younger sister was just as pretty, though her wolf-like features made them look way different.

But just like her elder sister, Rebecca was still famous amongst the men in the kingdom, mostly because of her vibrant golden eyes that went well with her black, silky hair.

Growling, Rebecca folded her arms and looked to the side.

"I haven't eaten since yesterday; why is Lord Vani taking so long?"

Terra replied,

"Lord Vani does what he wants, when he wants; there is nothing we can do about that."

Perfect timing.

The door to the dining room opened.

Both sisters turned their gazes to the sound.

With calm eyes, they watched as Vani walked into the room, Alice following behind him, like she always did.

For one, not a single one of them continued their discussion.

Instead, they stood on their feet.

"Good morning, brother."

Their voices echoed in unison.

"Yeah, good morning," replied Vani before he pulled his chair back and sat on it.

Although as he settled down, he quickly noticed the shocked expression on all their faces.
