[author's note: hi every one , i am the author. I had been thinking about writing a novel since very long time but i never dared to cause i have been focusing on my studies. I don't have the liberty to write down a novel all day . As you can see English is not my mother tongue, so there might be some grammatical mistake. This is my first novel. Willowgod village:
Willowgod village is a small riverside village with an estimated population of 70-80 people, compactly settled within a 300 meter radius. Surrounded by fertile fields, gentle woods and ever present hum of the river, the villagers thrive on mutual support, Simple routine.
In this village every house is single story constructed from local timber, raised slightly to avoid flood. House are made with earthen wall for insulation and roofs are made with dried branches and leaves.
All homes are modest, clustered in small groups with narrow path, there is one house quite bigger than other, this is the village chief's house. He is the most respected and elderly person. His home has 3 to 4 separate rooms with a vegetable garden behind chief's house.
Beside this house there is another house smaller than the chief's house. In this house lives the only doctor and his apprentice.
Every villager respect him and come to him when they have any disease.
every household has a small patch of vegetables garden.
The village is usually seen lively with children playing and villagers doing their routine.
But today is different, village seems empty and lacks the lively nature. Because everyone has gone to the village entrance gate where a big and wide willow tree stands tall with radius of 2 to 3 meter .
This willow tree is unusual very big and wide. Every generation of villagers have seen it.
Some believes that in this tree reside a god who protect and bless the villagers. So they often pray infront of this tree to get good luck.
Today is a bit different, people are gathering under the tree not to pray but for a meeting.
Some people are talking with each other. Suddenly everyone turns silent as they watch the village chief is going to announce something.
The chief looked at everyone and nodded. He started his announcement -
" Today I have invited everyone to discuss very important matter concerning our village".
People started looking at each other and asking what should be the reason for this meeting.
Are the bandits attacking? But we have paid them this month share, if not then a calamity is coming or what.
If it's true then what should be done to tackle that.
Is it a beast or drought. Or the willow god is angry.
Should we leave this village and settle in other place.
Many people had different opinions. But none have knew the real thing so they are speculating anything comes to their mind.
The village chief said "It's not a calamity or bandits but an opportunity. A golden opportunity sent by willow god to us . The White Lotus martial sect has announced its recruitment and they will come to our village to select potential disciples."
Everyone is surprised at the news, as it is the greatest opportunity for everyone to pursue immortality.
yes this world is ruled by immortals and sects. The strong survives and the weak gets trampled.
Immortal can split the mountain and sea, fly through the sky on their sword. Every person aspire to become one of them, but not everyone had the opportunity.
How can an immortal take notice of a worthless mortal. To begin immortal cultivation you need connections, money and reputation. Without any of these three , one cannot become a disciple of a cultivation sect.
Once you become a disciple of a sect your future is limitless. You will be different from normal human.
Everyone was excited as there is opportunity to learn immortal cultivation, but the next sentence from chief, snatched the smile from many.
"They will dispatch a group of disciples to our village and any one below the age of twenty can take the immortal aptitude test."
Said the chief.
One can start cultivation after 10 years old and before 20 years old. This time is the golden time for cultivation.
If one missed this chance they will never get success in cultivation. Their potential will be limited. So anyone above 20 years old can try but will never succeed, that's why many sects don't accept disciple after 20 years old.
As the village consist of many elderly people , only half of the village consist of younger generation.
Among them some are incapable of taking test as they are physically and mentally challenged person, it means they have some disability like blindness, muteness, or loss of hand or leg. Which is most important in cultivation.
Take a example of sword cultivator. If he doesn't have his hands how will he use the sword. How will he start learning sword .
So only a handful of people qualify for the test.
The village chief said "anyone below 20 without any disability, meet me tomorrow at this location at 7 o'clock. The meeting is over, return to your work."
The younger generation were quite happy as they get the opportunity to become 'immortal'. In that crowd there is a child who was the most composed manner, waiting for tomorrow morning.
