Chapter 1 – Shadows Within (Part 2 of 3)

---

The Prisoner's Words

"Revenant has begun," the captured shinobi rasped.

I gripped his collar. "Explain. What is Revenant?"

The shinobi grinned—a grin too calm for someone bleeding and bound. "A world beyond death… a world Shinkuro controls."

"That's not an answer," I snapped, but before I could press further, his chakra spiked violently.

"Seal detonation!" Sera shouted.

Hana moved faster than thought, slapping a suppressor tag on his chest, barely diffusing the suicide seal.

The prisoner slumped unconscious. Hana let out a shaky breath. "That was too close."

"Someone doesn't want their secrets leaking," I said darkly. "Storm Division, move out—we bring these two back to the Tower. Then, we find out what Shinkuro's planning."

Daisuke's Shadow

As we packed the prisoners for transport, I caught Daisuke staring at the unconscious man with… something like recognition. His hand lingered on his sword's hilt, knuckles whitening slightly.

"Problem, Daisuke?" I asked.

He straightened instantly. "No, sir. Just… wondering how desperate Shinkuro must be to send weaklings like this."

The answer was too quick, too smooth. Hana glanced at me; she'd noticed it too.

(He's hiding something…)

Return to Konoha

We moved fast, but as we reached the outer perimeter, Sera stiffened. "Multiple signatures behind us—fast movers."

"Shinkuro's response team," I guessed. "Kai, Renji, cover our retreat. Hana, take point with prisoners. Daisuke, on me."

We engaged immediately, clashing in the treetops. Explosions lit up the night as kunai and jutsu filled the air. Daisuke's performance was flawless… but then I saw it:

He deliberately missed one of the attackers, allowing them to slip past toward Hana.

"Hana, incoming!" I shouted. She spun, blocking just in time, her chakra vines lashing out.

When the dust settled, the attackers were dead—killed by Daisuke's blade while retreating.

"They were escaping," he said coldly.

(Or you didn't want them captured…) I thought, suspicion growing heavy.

Revenant's Core

Back at the Hokage Tower, Hiruzen listened silently as I reported. The captured shinobi had one more thing to say after Hana stabilized him:

"Revenant… is not an army. It's… a world. Shinkuro's… building… a… body."

Then he flatlined.

"A body?" Hana whispered. "What does that even mean?"

"Something worse than an army," I replied. "A living vessel for every undead seal he's made."

Hiruzen's jaw tightened. "Arashi, you have authority to act immediately. Stop this before it grows beyond containment."

---

Mission Twist

We tracked Shinkuro's signal to an abandoned laboratory near the old Uchiha training grounds. Hana checked her gear, her expression sharp. "Something about this feels wrong."

"Because it is," I said grimly. "Storm Division, mask up. Daisuke, stay on flank."

Inside the lab, we found rows of sealed tanks—each one containing a shinobi corpse with glowing eyes. At the center, a massive sealing array pulsed like a heartbeat.

"Revenant core," Sera muttered. "If this activates—"

"It won't," I said.

But then… Daisuke moved. Quick, efficient—slashing Hana's sealing tags before she could activate them.

"Daisuke?!" Kai shouted.

He turned, mask cracking to reveal a faint smirk. "Sorry… wrong team."

Before anyone could react, he slammed his sword into the central array.

Cliffhanger (End of Part 2)

The entire lab pulsed red as the seal exploded outward, awakening every corpse.

"Revenant Phase Two… complete," Daisuke said calmly, stepping back into the shadows.

Hana's eyes widened. "Arashi… what do we do?!"

I stared at the rising undead and tightened my grip on my blade.

"We survive. Then we hunt him down."
