Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Deserving of a Slap

In the shadowed embrace of the alleyway, the man's gaze became ensnared by Lian Yan's brown eyes, which held a luminous depth that seemed to draw him into their warm, intricate dance. He was captivated, as if her eyes were twin flames flickering in the dimness, illuminating a path to a place he had never dared to venture. The world around them seemed to still, leaving only the two of them suspended in a moment that felt both eternal and fleeting.

His lips met hers once more, this time with an insistent urgency that spoke of a hunger newly awakened. His tongue teased hers, coaxing a response that was at first hesitant, then increasingly bold. Lian Yan's initial shock dissolved into a burgeoning curiosity, a tentative exploration of her own desires that she had never before acknowledged. Her lips parted, allowing him deeper access, and she found herself responding to the rhythm of his kiss, her body betraying the conflict within her mind.

The man's hands were both firm and gentle, one pinned above her head against the cold, unyielding stone of the alleyway wall, while the other rested on the small of her back, pulling her into the warmth of his body. The contrast between the chill of the stone at her back and the heat of his body seeping into hers was stark, a reminder of the duality of the moment—both forbidden and intoxicating.

As their kiss deepened, the world beyond the alleyway seemed to recede, the clamor of the market fading into a distant hum. It was as though they were encased in a bubble, shielded from the prying eyes and judgments of the world outside. His touch was a paradox—possessive yet tender, his fingers tracing delicate patterns on her skin as if memorizing the contours of her body.

Suddenly, the distant shouts came through the alley.

"Catch the thief! Don't let him escape!"

It intruded upon their secluded world. The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the alleyway, a jarring reminder of the reality beyond their intimate embrace. Yet, the guards paid them no heed, their focus solely on the pursuit of the thief. To them, Lian Yan and the man were mere shadows, insignificant in the grand tapestry of the market's hustle and bustle.

As the footsteps faded, the man pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against Lian Yan's. His breath was ragged, his chest rising and falling as he struggled to regain his composure. Lian Yan's own breathing was labored, her heart pounding in her chest as she grappled with the whirlwind of emotions that threatened to overwhelm her.

In the aftermath of their so called passionate kiss, both Lian Yan and the stranger found themselves momentarily disoriented, as if the world around them had faded into insignificance. The sound of the guards running past them barely registered in their consciousness, their minds still reeling from the intensity of their encounter.

Lian Yan, in particular, was at a loss to explain her own actions. She couldn't understand why she had allowed the stranger to rest his forehead against hers, why she had not pushed him away and demanded an explanation for his boldness. It was as if she had been caught in a trance, her body acting of its own accord, defying the dictates of her mind.

As she struggled to regain her composure, the stranger began to caress her cheek, his touch gentle and tender. He ran his thumb along her lips, tracing the outline of her mouth with a slow, deliberate motion. Lian Yan's heart raced as she felt the warmth of his touch, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.

"You're beautiful," the stranger murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "I haven't seen a woman like you around here before. You smell sweet and taste even sweeter." He paused, his eyes searching hers for a sign of acquiescence. "May I taste more?" A smirk played at the corners of his lips, hinting at a confidence that bordered on arrogance.

His words were like a bucket of cold water, snapping Lian Yan out of her daze. She felt a surge of anger coursing through her veins, her cheeks flushing with indignation. How dare he assume that she would be willing to submit to his advances, that she would be complicit in his audacity?

With a swift, decisive motion, Lian Yan slapped the stranger across the face, the sound of the impact echoing through the alleyway. She didn't care how handsome he was, how charming his words, or how gentle his touch. She would not be swayed by his superficial charms, would not allow herself to be seduced by a man who had shown such blatant disregard for her consent.

"In your dreams," she spat, her voice trembling with rage. "You are lucky that I won't scream for those guards to come back and teach you a lesson in manners. The most you get is a deserving slap!"

The stranger's eyes widened in surprise, his hand instinctively rising to his cheek where the imprint of Lian Yan's palm was still visible. He had not expected such a fierce reaction, such a vehement rejection of his advances. For a moment, he was at a loss for words, his mind struggling to process the sudden turn of events.

"Don't ever think that you are allowed to do that to every woman you run across!" Lian Yan's voice trembled with anger. She had not expected her first kiss to be stolen in such a manner, by a stranger who seemed to have no regard for her feelings or boundaries. The audacity of his actions left her feeling violated and disrespected, and she was determined to make him understand the gravity of his transgression with just her angered expression and words.

The man, on the other hand, was taken aback by Lian Yan's reaction. He had not expected her to slap him, had not anticipated the fiery defiance that burned in her eyes. For a moment, he was at a loss for words, his mind struggling to process the reality of the situation. But as the sting of the slap began to fade, a slow, amused smile spread across his lips.

"I won't be doing that to every woman," he said, his voice laced with a teasing tone that only served to fuel Lian Yan's anger. "Just you."

His words were like a spark to a powder keg, igniting a fire within Lian Yan that could not be contained. She felt a surge of indignation coursing through her veins, her cheeks flushing with rage. How dare he find amusement in her distress, how dare he make light of a situation that had left her feeling so vulnerable and exposed?

Without another word, Lian Yan turned on her heel and rushed out of the alleyway, her heart pounding in her chest. She could hear her maid, Ye Bia, calling out for her, her voice tinged with panic.

"Miss! Miss! Where are you?!" Ye Bia's cries echoed through the market, drawing the attention of the passersby. Lian Yan could see the concern etched on her maid's face as she pushed her way through the crowd, her eyes scanning the sea of people for any sign of her mistress.

As Lian Yan emerged from the alleyway, she was met with a wave of relief and concern from Ye Bia. Her maid's eyes widened as she took in Lian Yan's almost disheveled appearance, her lips slightly swollen from the intensity of the kiss. Without a word, Ye Bia rushed to her side, her hands reaching out to grasp Lian Yan's arms as if to reassure herself that her mistress was truly unharmed.

"Miss, what happened?" Ye Bia's voice was barely above a whisper, her eyes darting nervously around as if expecting the stranger to emerge from the shadows at any moment. "I was so worried about you. I couldn't find you anywhere, and I didn't know what to do."

Lian Yan's anger began to ebb away, replaced by a sense of gratitude for her maid's unwavering loyalty and concern. She knew that she could always count on Ye Bia to be by her side, to support her through even the most trying of circumstances. With a deep breath, she turned to her maid, her voice steady and calm.

"It's alright, Ye Bia. I'm fine. Let's just enjoy the day a bit longer and then go home. I can use a bit of a distraction at the moment… again." She needed one that morning and now and needed it again. Lian Yan would turn around to spot the man there and hurriedly rush with her maid off.

Even though the two women were just walking away, the man there leaned against the wall of the alleyway and kept watching Lian Yan as if he could not stop his interest in her. The kiss, the reaction and outcome. All of it was nothing that he had ever dealt with before. "Who are you?" He would ask himself and keep smiling.
