Chapter 10: A Dark Present
Fukuoka City, Hawks Agency
'Oh, sweet ground!' Fumikage mentally screamed, laying himself stomach down on the helicopter pad of Hawks' skyscraper the moment Izuku put him on the ground. 'Great darkness, I almost died.' He pet the ground a few more times with heavy breaths and wide eyes before Dark Shadow came out.
"Come on, Fumi." And the quirk looked halfway in between being exasperated and trying not to laugh their ass off. "Let's get you up." Though, he quickly settled on moving towards his brother to pick him up off his feet.
An action that Hawks decided to ignore as he stretched his arms and wings out. "Welcome to my agency; also known around here in Fukuoka City as the Red Nest!" He exclaimed, a bright smile on his face. "Speed is the essence here so make sure to stay on your toes, newbies!"
The two students in question suddenly found themselves being picked up by two of the red-winged hero's feathers before being dragged into an elevator shaft.
And then they were falling.
"Aaah!" As they did, Fumikage was screaming alongside Dark Shadow while Izuku's eyes only went very slightly wide.
However, before either could continue to scream or think of doing anything, they were suddenly deposited into an empty floor. After taking a moment to pick themselves up, they looked around them to find a modern, comfortable looking floor split into what looked like a dining room, kitchen, and living room.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Hawks said, not sorry at all. "That was our emergency elevator; sometimes the elevator is too slow, so we'll just fly or drop through the empty shaft to get in and out of the building faster." He ignored their flat looks and once more spread out his arms. "Anyway, welcome to the breakroom; it's pretty much the only floor in this building where you'll find yourself or any of the sidekicks relaxing."
Izuku noted the lack of actual sidekicks or pros around and titled his head. "Where is everyone; are they all out on patrol?"
Hawks nodded. "Yes, they are. Patrol times around here are whenever you clock in all the way until whenever you clock out." He explained with a serious look. "My mistake calling this a breakroom; feel free to think of this place as the lobby to work on logistics before going out on missions."
'Of course.' Izuku and Fumikage both thought with a light chuckle. 'It's always video games.'
"Anyhow." Hawks clapped his hands, getting the two hero students to stand straight. "Everything on this floor is basically right in front of you, except for the rooms which are just down that hallway." He pulled out a floor plan and searched it for a moment before ripping it up. "And your rooms are going to be the two on the left of my office; trust me, you can't miss it." And finally threw the two their briefcases and luggage. "Go put your luggage away, get set up and comfortable… And then throw on your hero costumes."
The man's last statement gave pause to his two students and they both tilted their heads. "Are we to train in our hero costumes?"
"Well, maybe, it would make sense." Izuku thought it over aloud before nodding. "That way we can get more used to them and-"
"What? No." Hawks quickly shook his head and tilted it right back at the two. "Throw on your hero costumes and get ready to go out and patrol the streets with me."
Once more, Izuku and Fumikage paused before both unceremoniously falling on the ground. "Eh?! Already?!"
Unphased, Hawks nodded. "Yeah." And spoke as if what he was saying should have been obvious. "Greenie, I worked with you only once and you were doing better than most of my sidekicks on their first day; you're a natural." The blonde turned to Fumikage. "And Yuuei's sent me enough information and footage on you, Tsukuyomi, for me to judge that you're just as capable as Izuku." One last time, and this time with his hands, the red-winged hero picked up their luggage and shoved it into his students' possession. "Now please get moving."
Nodding quickly, the two shot up and bowed. "Thank you for the opportunity, Hawks!" Before both running off down the hall, luggage in tow.
Five Minutes Later
Hawks nodded and whistled at Izuku and Fumikage as they finally walked out of the hallway. "Look at you two, already looking like pros to me." He chuckled at the former's costume. "And did someone take inspiration from my aviation outfit?"
Izuku chuckled as well. "Well… It's simple and efficient while also not standing out too much." He began rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "It's also really comfortable and I like baggy clothing."
The red-winged hero nodded at that and then turned to Fumikage. "Right… I'm assuming the darkness aesthetic is to powerup your quirk buddy?"
Fumikage nodded. "Creating a domain of shade on my person does indeed help aid Dark Shadow."
"Great." Hawks pretended to understand what he just heard – let it be known that he absolutely did not – before plopping down on one of the breakroom couches and gesturing in front of him. "Alright, come sit, you two."
The two nodded and they each took one of the two unoccupied couches facing Hawks, Izuku on the left and Fumikage on the right. "So… Was there anything that you wanted to discuss, or…?"
The winged blonde laid back on the couch a bit. "When you're a hero within the top ten, you need to be efficient; everything I do is a calibre above the rest of your everyday limelight heroes." He started. "And in this agency, I train every single one of my sidekicks – regardless of their position or power – to be efficient in what they do. I do this by individually assessing and addressing their weaknesses and then beating them down."
"You trained each sidekick personally?" Fumikage asked, eyebrow raised. "This is quite the large agency; a feat such as that must have been incredibly tasking."
Hawks nodded. "It was daunting, yes." His eyes went serious again. "But if I had to do it all over again, I would. The people of this city depend on us to do our jobs properly in order to keep them safe, anything less than me personally showing the ropes to each newbie that walks into my agency is letting them down."
As the blonde's serious demeanour floated away, Izuku and Fumikage took a small moment to appreciate their new mentor before also becoming serious. "What's the problems you wanted to talk about then?" The former asked.
"They're actually pretty simple problems that I'm sure I'll kick out of both of you by the end of tomorrow." Holograms suddenly shot up around the three and the two students bore witness to multiple videos of both of them at the Sports Festival and even footage of the USJ.
"Where did you find footage of the USJ?" Fumikage asked, surprised that there even was footage of that day. "That training domain had all sense of electrical power erased."
'He has to be speaking like that on purpose.' Hawks stared at the bird boy for a moment in confusion before deciding to speak. "Well, Tsukuyomi, at some point during the invasion, whatever was blocking the power got taken out and the cameras were the first things to regain power."
Izuku tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at that. "And not the defence or alarm system?"
"Nah, those properly went back online after the invasion had already ended." Hawks replied, waving his hands at the issue and instead opting to point out a screen with Fumikage on it. "Speaking of the invasion, it actually showed me more on how you two would do on the streets much better than the Sports Festival could hope to."
Fumikage let a small smile cross his face as he watched the main screen display Dark Shadow throw him in the air to dropkick a villain with batons in the face. "Pray tell, what did this footage reveal on my current abilities and how they can be strengthened."
'Alright, I guess I'm just going to have to get used to this.' The red-winged hero sighed internally before replaying the video on the main screen. "The main thing that the video showed me is that, despite not having any footing whatsoever, your little quirk buddy is more than capable of taking you off the ground." He then pointed to Fumikage. "Meaning, you will fly if we workshop that concept properly."
Izuku put one hand up as another magically summoned a notebook from… Somewhere. "Actually, we were just talking about that on the train ride over here." He said, opening up to his page on Fumikage.
Hawks tilted his head and his eyes roamed Izuku's form to look for pockets. "Where'd you get that notebook from?"
The greenette must not have even heard his new mentor speak as he just began to explain his theory. "Like you said, Dark Shadow can lift Tsukuyomi off the ground without either of them having to touch it; that led me to coming up with this simple solution." He revealed a drawing of Fumikage doing a Superman pose with a large dark clump on his back acting as wings. "It's a rough concept but I think it'd work."
"And that concept is…?" Hawks asked, not making sense of the surprisingly well-drawn picture he was looking at.
"Dark Shadow would simply hold me by my waist and hoist me in whatever direction I wish to travel." Fumikage answered, letting his quirk out. "And since I would be held under my cloak, Dark Shadow would have a constant feed of darkness and not be effected by light."
An impressed expression crossed the winged hero's face and he nodded in approval. 'They were already discussing how to mitigate their weaknesses before they even stepped off the train to get here… I definitely got my pick of the litter.' Letting his face rest with a smile, Hawks looked to Fumikage. "Well, Tsukuyomi, it looks like you've already got your main weakness covered." And decided to turn to Izuku. "Meaning it's your turn."
"Me?" Izuku raised an eyebrow at that. "I don't think I have too many problems with my quirk."
Shaking his head in faux disappointment, Hawks smiled. "I'll admit, for a kid that only got his super powerful energy quirk a year ago, you're doing alright, but you lack control." Pulling up the holograms again, they began to show clips of the greenette powering up. "More specifically, power output; I want you to learn how to immediately switch between your highest and lowest outputs."
Izuku kept his eyebrow raised and tilted his head this time. "How do you mean?"
In response, the blonde sent a feather surging at Izuku's head, but it was dodged. "Just like that." An action the hero smiled at. "Your control has to become like a reflex; second nature; instinct." The holograms disappeared and Hawks called back his feather. "And another thing I want you to learn; how to allocate your power differently throughout your entire body."
This time, Izuku wasn't confused on the concept. "You mean something like having my lower body at 10% while having the rest of my body somewhere up to 40%?" However, he still was confused by the reasoning. "That would take a while to learn, not to mention having to concentrate on that while fighting."
"Then it's a good thing you'll start learning now." Hawks countered, a smile on his face. "Just like with your power output, you're going to train this until it becomes second nature, and you can do it on a whim." He then began to rub the back of his neck. "Also, if you haven't realised yet, you unintentionally cause a lot of collateral damage when your output is high since you can't slow yourself down; that's fine at Yuuei since it can get fixed easy, but I won't have it in my city."
Hearing the subtle seriousness of the blonde man, Izuku sheepishly bowed down. "Right, Hawks." Before standing up straight and putting on a brave face. "I promise not to let you down."
"Ah, don't sweat it, greenie." Hawks just waved the teen off though. "Those two things aren't even your second biggest problem." Seeing the question in his new student's eyes, he grabbed the greenette's cape and tore it away. "No capes."
"Aw, what? I liked that cape." Aside from its minor assistance in his flying – he didn't really need it, but it helped – the cape looked very cool to Izuku. "It was my second favourite colour and completed the outfit."
Hawks, however, wasn't having it and let his feathers tear the thing to shreds. "Sorry, but this city's support company that makes our costumes has a strict 'No Capes!' policy." He seemed to shiver just telling them. "So, unless you want to take it up with the two-hundred-year-old lady that makes our stuff, just trust me and say goodbye to the cape."
'Why is it always old ladies?' Sighing, Izuku nodded and gave the cape a salute. "You will be missed."
"Great!" Seeing that the major problems were addressed, Hawks smiled and walked over to the elevator shafts. "Now that you two know what to work on, let's get started." Before falling backwards and letting gravity take him. "You're first, Tsukuyomi!"
Fukuoka City Streets, An Hour Later
"I believe-" Steadying his arms and keeping his balance, Fumikage looked down towards Izuku. "I believe that Dark Shadow and I have reached the 'stable output' you spoke of." Currently, he was flying – kinda, he's doing his best – two stories above the streets below.
"Great job, Tsukuyomi, Dark Shadow!" The streets on which Izuku was currently running along to act as a safety net for his friend. "Just keep that output up and you should both be able to fly fast in no time."
Fumikage began to wave a bit but steadied himself again. "I shall admit, this is quite the thrill." Yes, despite his initial fear, the bird boy was finding a great deal of enjoyment in flying. "It is freeing."
"And that's exactly the feeling you want to look for whenever you fly." Hawks said, suddenly appearing in front of his students, flying backwards. "Don't worry about the whole flying part of flying, just fly."
"…What?"
Izuku laughed heartily. "I know it sounds counterproductive, but it actually works really well!" The greenette then proceeded to jump up and hover next to his bird friend. "It's like walking, you don't really think about keeping your balance or moving each leg forward; you just walk."
"Yeah, this is super easy!" Dark Shadow seemed to agree with this sentiment and popped his head out from under Fumikage's cloak. "I say we go faster and higher! Get some real thrills!"
"That's definitely one way to learn!" Letting himself slide so that he was flying on his back, Hawks lowered himself to below his students. "What do you say, Tsukuyomi, wanna see how fast you can take it?"
"…" There were very clear signs of apprehension and fear in Fumikage's eyes, but there was an underlying trace of curiosity as well. "Yes?"
"I'll take it!" And despite the bird boy's answer sounding more like a question, it was more than enough for the blonde hero to grab both of his students by the back of their collars and surge upwards. "Up we go!"
Almost all of Fukuoka City heard the scream that followed their greatest hero's stunt.
Building Roof
"Regret…" One word; spoken in a whisper and yet it was so loud. "So much regret…" These were the words of Fumikage Tokoyami as he leaned over the sided of an AC unit and caught his breath.
"Hehe…" All the while, Dark Shadow pet his host on his back with a sheepish expression. "Sorry, Fumi, got a bit caught up in the moment there."
Fumikage, however, simply lifted a hand. "No, no, my fault." He straightened himself out as he said this and wiped the bugs out of his face. "I should have been more specific when I permitted you to take me higher."
A small chuckle resounded above him and the bird boy looked up to see Hawks holding a hand over his mouth. "Gotta say, you did some pretty sweet manoeuvres up there." The blonde landed on the roof and smiled brightly. "That stunt at the end there really had me going, pulling up at the last second right before hitting the ground; very advanced."
Fumikage did not share these chuckles and simply deadpanned at the man. "I am not flying above two stories for the rest of the day." A statement, one that he was going to vehemently stick to. "Flying lesson may resume tomorrow."
Luckily for the bird boy, Hawks seemed to be fine with that. "Alright, guess we should actually get to the patrol part of the job then." He said, putting his hand on his communicator. "All we gotta do is switch off our private channel and move back onto the main channel and my sidekicks will-"
"Bank robbery in progress at Kanto Baito Bank! Priority level two! Multiple civilians and law enforcement officers injured at the scene!"
Smiling, Hawks flared his wings. "Yup, gotta love Fukuoka City, no shortage on crime." Before shooting off in a random direction, leaving his students behind. "Get a move on, newbies!"
Luckily, it only took the two teens a few short seconds to activate their quirks and rush after the man.
Kanto Baito Bank
Along their flight towards the bank, Izuku had decided to forego the safety route and just grabbed Fumikage's arm before boosting them right next to Hawks. After they were caught up, it only took a short minute before all three heroes arrived at their crime scene and landed on a nearby rooftop to survey the scene.
It was not a pretty sight.
Multiple unconscious civilians decorated either side of the street and a cop car was sticking out of a corner store's… Everything. The officers in question who the car belonged to were trying their best to move away the civilians from the ongoing fight between the villains and Hawks' sidekicks.
And that was going…
"Don't presume to win so fast, villain!"
"Agh!"
Actually, not bad.
Four sidekicks faced down against four villains and they were all holding their own very well given the circumstances.
One was a light-skinned girl with long, wavy black hair and round ocean blue eyes. Her face was decorated by a dark-blue fern mark on both cheeks and visible river markings on her arms. For her hero costume, she wore white hakama pants held up by a dark grey sash which was securing a short-sleeved, white, kimono shirt.
The next – and maybe the most interesting – was a short, one-armed girl with a long-sleeved, light-grey jinbei shirt tucked into a dark grey hakama pants held up by a red sash. Her hair was a long and flowy white, braided and decorated with a red sash that complimented her colourless, grey eyes. The most interesting feature was her support gear, a bulky, cuboid-like golden bell on the end of a glowing golden rope that was connected to her right-arm stub.
Another was a tall, light-skinned man with short, black hair and fiery-hazel eyes. He held a buff build with burn marks on his arms and wore dark-brown hakama pants securing a dark-brown compression singlet. His costume was finished off by a red sash going across his chest and waist, white arm wraps, and a large dark-brown Bo staff.
And the final one was a short, tan-skinned man with shaggy, shoulder-length black hair held in a high-ponytail. His face was decorated with a light stubble and a single scar on both of his cheeks, just under his yellow eyes. He wore baggy, dark-green pants held up by a mustard-coloured sash and bamboo-like arm guards for his hero costume; he didn't have any shoes or a shirt, though, just an open, dark-green jacket.
Their looks, fighting styles, quirks, and overall teamwork on display made it obvious who they were. The Skirmishing Division of Hawks' Agency.
Hawks' Sidekicks – Skirmishing Division! The Skirmishing Division is a new division in Hawks Agency made up of graduating heroes that Hawks handpicked from Fukuoka City's very own Saiketsu Academy (砦杰)! These four specifically came as a package deal right out of their graduation!
The Flowing Hero: Stream – Real Name: Katsumi Reisen; 戡美 澪山 (Literal Meaning: Beautiful Victory of the Mountain's Waterway)
· Quirk: Conduit – This one's a bit of a doozy! An emitter quirk that lets Katsumi's body act as a conduit for motion & kinetic energy; she gets hit on one side and the energy travels through her body until she lets it out the other! Fun Fact: Katsumi is the Daughter of The Flowing Hero: Bang!
The Bell Hero: Echo – Real Name: Kyo Tetsusan; 響 鉄山 (Literal Meaning: Echo of the Iron Mountain)
· Quirk: Resonance – Kyo got lucky with this quirk, folks! An emitter quirk that lets Kyo store sounds that she makes inside her body as sonic energy! Her body will then charge this sonic energy inside of her until she wishes to release it through other objects; hence, her bells!
The Fire Hero: Ember – Real Name: Shu Honoku; 主 焰木 (Literal Meaning: Master of the Flame Tree)
· Quirk: Kindle – This guy's quirk is a literal slow burn! An emitter quirk that lets Shu coat himself or other objects in fire and embers! He does this by enhancing the forces of friction around himself or objects and slowly letting the fires grow; gotta be careful with it though, he's not completely immune when his fire goes all out!
The Bamboo Hero: Cultivator – Real Name: Rin Tokumori; 淋 竺森 (Literal Meaning: Lonely Bamboo Forest)
· Quirk: Bamboo Garden – This quirk is a good one! An emitter quirk that allows Rin to accelerate and manipulate the growth of bamboo shoots he has as long as he has water in his body! He's gotta stay hydrated though, otherwise he risks weakening his quirk!
Now, while they were all holding the villains back, it was clear that was all they could do. Their patrols from this morning meant their stamina was already waning and the villains were clearly not tired in the slightest; the villains were slowly pushing forward.
That was when Hawks decided to act. "Izuku." Getting the green bean's attention, the red-winged hero pointed to the middle of the battle. "See if you can stock your output solely in your arms and land on the ground while pushing towards the villains; give them a good air flash that'll just push them back."
"Right." Concentrating on One For All, Izuku let the power wash out his body before letting it stock solely in his arms. 'One For All, 20%... Hmmm, what should I call this one?' Looking at his forearms and fists glowing brightly, he immediately thought of the perfect name. 'One For All, Gauntlets!' And then proceeded to jump down from the roof into the middle of the street, clapping his hands on landing.
The force behind the clap was enough to create a shockwave that sent the four villains back and Hawks used that opportunity to land himself and Fumikage in between the two sides.
"Now who's this picking on my sidekicks?" Red feathers dramatically fell around the blonde-haired hero as he made himself known and he spread his wings out wide to act as a wall for his workers. "I can't be having that."
"Hawks!" Said sidekicks all had wide eyes and quickly did a quick bow before grimacing.
"We apologise for not being able to capture them, Hawks!" Katsumi shouted, dusting off her clothes and taking deep breaths. "They've proved to be more formidable than we anticipated."
Shu spun his staff around him and let his flames die down before speaking. "They're quirks our coincidentally perfect counters to our own."
Rin said nothing and just grunted while taking care of Kyo's wounds just as said girl addressed their mentor. "We can still help fight though, Hawks!" She seemed desperate and it was clear that talking caused her discomfort, most likely due to the large bruise on her back. "With all of us together, we can-"
"No, that won't be necessary." Hawks didn't look at his sidekicks and stared down the villains that hurt them with a cold fury in his eyes. "The newbies need some training and I need heroes that know the proper procedures to get all the civilians here out of harm's way." The sound of wind whipping followed as the hero's feather blades entered his hands. "So get them out of here while we handle these guys."
It really showed how much Hawks' sidekicks trusted and respected him as the four immediately shot off towards the civilians and present police officers to assist in the evacuation of the street.
This only left Hawks and his students with the four villains.
'Shit…' Said villains all shared this one collective thought together as they activated their quirks and took an involuntary step backwards.
In the middle left of the grouped villains, a red-haired teenager wearing black pants and a military jacket with a single red sleeve hit the person next to him. "I told you we should've just gone with the ramming truck, going on foot wasn't stealthy at all!"
"Shut up." The person in question was a buff, black-haired teenager who simply caught the red-haired teen's fist and slapped the back of his head. "We'll deal with this." He took off his black jacket as he spoke, leaving him in a light beige compression shirt and revealing an incredibly buff and toned form.
"Yeah, sure…" A blue-haired teen on the far left wearing grey pants and a military jacket with a blue sleeve just started to tie up his hair into a high-ponytail while his green eyes started to glow. "You guys try that, I'm gonna book it out of here."
'Damnit! Damnit! Damnit!' Finally, an orange-haired teen – honestly, this one looked no older than Izuku or Fumikage – wearing black pants and a military jacket with a single orange sleeve summoned two giant khyber knives that-
Wait a second.
"Koro?" Izuku kept One For All powered up but looked at the orange-haired villain with a tilted head. "Ban Koro; Aldera Junior High?"
This question served to immediately cut any tension in the air and all eyes suddenly moved to the orange-haired villain, Koro. "Reaper, you know this hero student?" The black-haired villain was the first to address it and raised his eyebrows at the youngest recruit.
'Shit…' Said recruit was letting the memories of his past – and more specifically how he joined the bigoted bandwagon that made up the majority of his junior high – remind him of how much retribution was due on him. 'This isn't good.' And after what he saw at the Sports Festival, he didn't even want the half of it. "Hey, De- Midoriya…" Koro took a step back from the glow in the greenette's eyes and gripped his khyber knives tighter. "Fuck."
C-Class Villain Gang! The Kesu Runners! These men are a famous villain gang known to be working as runners for an S-Class villain known as 'The Gambler,' an even more infamous yet mysterious character that controls Fukuoka's underground market! It's surprising that the Skirmishing Division held them off for as long as they did; they're responsible for ending the careers of many heroes in Fukuoka!
Red-Haired Villain; Pneuma – Real Name: Mamoru Rokushi; 護 扐獅 (Literal Meaning: Protector of the Divine Lion)
· Quirk: Air Wall – An emitter quirk that allows Mamoru to create a circular shield composed of compressed air right from his palms! Mamoru can layer these shields for greater defence or even release the compressed air from them to create air blasts! It's hard to use it though, with every shield he makes, it becomes harder for him to breathe!
Black-Haired Villain; Scourge – Real Name: Kenshi Shakuhan; 堅獅 赤藩 (Literal Meaning: Tough Lion of the Red Clan)
· Quirk: Supremacy – This quirk is a powerful one! Supremacy grants Kenshi the ability to manifest his willpower into useable energy! He uses it to imbue either himself or objects he holds with power or invokes it outwards to create a wave of force that could knock out someone with a weaker will!
Blue-Haired Villain; Surge – Real Name: Rokan Taka; 郎冠 鷹 (Literal Meaning: Crown Son of the Hawk)
· Quirk: Friction Field – An emitter quirk that grants Rokan the ability to create a small field around him where he can negate the forces of friction… To an extent! His mastery over it makes him a formidable speedster and a tough opponent to fight!
Orange-Haired Villain; Reaper – Real Name: Ban Koro;伴 洸露 (Literal Meaning: Companion of Sparkling Tears)
· Quirk: Khyber Knives – An emitter quirk that lets Ban summon and telepathically control khyber knives of varying sizes with his hands! Fun fact, his quirk was so different from his parents that it caused a scandal filled with accusations of cheating that led to Ban's fall into crime!
"Wait, you two are the same age then?" The black-haired villain, Scourge, asked before turning to the blue-haired villain. "Surge, what the hell? You said this kid was legal!" His brown eyes went colourless and a small pressure built around him as he shouted. "We don't gamble with kids!"
A pressure that Surge ignored as a blue energy began to coat his body. "He said he was legal!" Turning around, he got into a runner's stance. "But you can work that out with Reaper by yourself, I'm going back to the boss!" Before shooting off down the street.
"Sorry, Scourge, but I'm dipping as well!" An action that Koro copied as he summoned a giant khyber knife and jumped on it like it was a hover board. "My parents will kill me if I go to jail!" And just like that, he was flying away.
This did not bother Hawks in the slightest as he simply just laughed. "Woah, looks like we got ourselves some runners, newbies!" Turning to look at Fumikage, the blonde man pointed in the direction that Koro went. "Tsukuyomi, go bring back our minor and try make it quick." After having his request met, the hero then turned to the last remaining villains. "What's up with you guys, you after a fight?"
"You bet your ass we are!" Scourge yelled, punching his fists together. "Those cowards can run if they want, but I have a sense of honour!" A pressure was building around the young man as he spoke and it was clear he meant what he said.
Pneuma, on the other hand…
"Ah, I just don't have any other way to get out of here." He was very clearly not in the mood to fight. "So, this is my best bet."
"…Okay." And Hawks was fine with that. "Izuku." Getting his green-haired student's attention, the young pro pointed at the two remaining villains. "Try to work on the power output thing and don't destroy the street." Before smiling at him and giving him two thumbs up as he flew away. "Good luck!"
….
….
Well, talk about an awkward start.
'Guess I just have to roll with this.' Getting in a battle stance, Izuku activated One For All at 5% and let it wash through his body. 'I'll work on Full Cowling's output change for now, Gauntlet will have to wait before I use it effectively in a figh-' Danger Sense suddenly rung in his head and pulled the greenette out of his thoughts just in time to catch a car that was flying at him. "Woah! Where was the warning?"
"Kid, we thought we were about to get captured by the world's fastest hero and now we only have you in our way of freedom." Scourge said as he rushed upwards and jumped high in the air. "So, sorry about this, but we're leaving here as quick as we can!"
Internally nodding at the logic, Izuku put down the car behind him – no collateral damage – before jumping up to meet Scourge's blow. However, instead of overwhelming the man like he expected, the greenette was surprised to find that they were pretty evenly matched, locking themselves in the air.
At least, up until Pneuma shot him out of the sky with an air blast. "We both know you won't go down easy; we were around when you took down those monsters a few months ago."
"Yeah, should've seen that coming." Kipping himself upwards, Izuku raised his power to 8%. "There's really no point in prolonging this, so I'm just going to take you to out as fast as I can." Crouching down, the greenette built some power into his legs before shooting off towards Pneuma and bringing down a double-legged dropkick on him. 'Wait… What?'
Only to find that the red-haired villain had put up three yellow barriers stacked on top of each other. "I think you'll find that's gonna be harder than you think." And, even though the villain seemed to be struggling, the barriers were holding up just fine.
"We're not underestimating you!" Scourge shouted as he came down at Izuku with his own dropkick, throwing the teen down the street. "How about you show us some respect and do the same?"
Float activated and Izuku kicked backwards to stop himself flying down the street before he activated Smokescreen. "Fine then." His skin began to glow pink as smoke built up around his arms and the teen put them in front of him. "No underestimating."
A plume of dark smoke shot out from Izuku and spread all the way down the street, completely blocking the villain's view and causing both of them to panic.
"What the hell?" Pneuma brought up two barriers on either side of him and began to look around with wide eyes. "I can't see anything!"
Next to the red-haired villain – not that he could see – Scourge got down onto a knee before scrambling through the bag on his back for something. 'Come on, come on, where is it?'
"Scourge!" However, this action – and lack of response – only served to spook Pneuma and he began to shoot off random air blasts around him.
Making it all too easy for Izuku to find him and aim a back-handed strike right at his face. "Got you." And knock him out with a single hit. 'Alright, that's one, better disperse the smoke and just go for a-'
A sudden wave of pressure shot over the street and any smoke immediately dispersed into nothingness. "That's better." And at the source of the wave stood Scourge, his colourless eyes somehow glowing brightly and a small wind picking up around him. "I'm gonna need you to give me back my pal there, kid."
'Different…' Izuku crouched down to build up power before surging towards Scourge, fist stretched out. 'Oh.' But was stopped as the man met his fist with his own.
"Like I said before, we are leaving here." Scourge grabbed Izuku's arm and threw him upwards before jumping to meet him in the air. "Take this!" Before spin kicking the greenette back down onto the road.
The greenette in question only just managed to lower his power down enough to not break the road before needing to immediately spike it back up and catch the man's dropkick. 'Holy crap that was close!' Luckily, Izuku was able to block it and threw the man down the street.
But before he could give chase, a sudden pressure covered the street and the young hero student felt something pushing on his mind. "I didn't want to resort to this, but you've given me no choice." Following the voice, the greenette saw Scourge just standing in the middle of the street. "You've got a strong will, but mine is stronger."
'What in the world?' Izuku looked at his body with surprise as he felt a cold sweat break out and a chill run down his spine. 'What is he…?' However, One For All spiked within him before he could ask it to and he found himself back to normal.
'Wait… What?' An action that obviously spooked Scourged. "What are you doing?" Looking down the street, the black-haired villain saw Izuku's eyes glowing a violent green and something pushing against the pressure he was putting out. "What is that?" But what scared him most wasn't the fact that his quirk was being pushed back, it was the ghostly figure behind Izuku staring right at him and making him lose his willpower. "What is that?!"
"What is what?" Though, Izuku didn't seem to know that small fact. 'What is he talking about?' Brushing himself off as he finally regained control of his body, the greenette started powering up more of One For All within him. 'This will definitely be enough to take care of him. One For All! 20%!' Before surging behind the man as his screams became wails. "This should quiet you down." And chopping the back of his neck, knocking him out completely.
As soon as he did, the pressure across the street weakened but did not disappear. That only happened as soon as Izuku let One For All turn off – and that was after he determined both villains were completely knocked out.
"Woah, nice work, Izuku." And just in time for Hawks and Fumikage to get back as well, the two unconscious villains from before floating behind them as the winged hero's feathers held them up. "Mostly no collateral damage… Aside from that car."
Looking at the knocked out villains, Fumikage smiled. "I see I was right to trust that you would not encounter any difficulties with these villains, C-Class or not."
"Well, there was one part where the big guy got a random power up, but that only lasted a few seconds before he started screaming in terror." Izuku said before turning to look at their mentor. "What do we do now?"
"Well…" Deciding to ignore the comment about his student causing one of the villains to break down, Hawks looked over to his other sidekicks coordinating with newly arriving police and Detective Sakishi. "Looks like my favourite detective is here, so there's no need to worry! My sidekicks will help her clean this up!" Before turning to hastily leave. "We'll continue to patrol for another hour or two and then-"
"Oi, I can hear you, birdbrain!" Only to pause as Sakishi yelled at him from down the street. "Don't try and push your paperwork on the sidekicks, get over here and show the newbies how to file a report! That's an important part of hero work!"
Next to her, Hawks' sidekicks all nodded at once. "Yeah!"
"Traitors." Sighing, Hawks grabbed the remaining two villains with his feathers as well as his students before walking sadly down the road. "Izuku, Tsukuyomi, here's a tip; if you ever get your own agencies, have a paperwork division."
Hawks Agency, 6 Hours Later
"How did she find us every! Single! Time?!" Hawks shouted as he faceplanted onto one of his couches. "We went across the entire city! Three dozen crimes! All of them!" He scratched his head in thought. "Maybe she really was telling the truth when she said she stuck a tracker in that chicken wing."
Ignoring the last comment, Fumikage also sat himself down on a couch. "I believe it has to do with the fact that this city has their law enforcement employ the use of modded modes of transportation." He let Dark Shadow out and sent him towards the fridge. "And said law enforcement seem to be professional motorists."
Hawks' feathers all shot off him as he rolled onto his back and looked towards his bird-headed student. "I don't speak fancy, Tsukuyomi." Before they all picked him up and sat him up properly. "Translation please?"
"He's saying…" Izuku started from the fridge, throwing Dark Shadow a bottle of water. "They can keep up with us because all of their cars have turbocharged V8 engines and every cop in the city is apparently a professional street racer."
Blinking twice, the red-winged hero looked forward out the window with zero thoughts in his eyes. "Maybe we should start taking sea-side crimes." One thought.
"Or fly over to an entirely different prefecture." Two thoughts. "Tokyo is great this time of year."
"Oh, shit, right!" Hawks suddenly stood up and his feathers all shot back to him. "I almost forgot to mention this to you two." Pulling up a pair of reading glasses and a letter, the blonde-haired man began to read the letter in a fancy voice. "Dear Hawks, I hope this letter finds you well. We of the Hero Public Safety Commission require your skills of aerial reconnaissance and speed to assist the heroes of Hosu in their pursuit of the mad, anti-hero that is plaguing their city. Please have your affairs in order and move over to Hosu in two days' time. Sincerely, The HPSC."
It took a second for the two tired teen's brains to even process half of the man's sentence but they both eventually gave the same response. "I beg your pardon?/Huh?"
"We're going to Hosu City in two days' time." Hawks summarised with a smile. "To assist the Hosu Heroes in their manhunt for the Hero Killer."
"What?!" That, on the other hand, didn't take long to hit them. "Manhunt?!"
"Yup! The Hero Public Safety Commission needs the top ten on this case so we're going over there in two days with Endeavour." Moving over to the screens, Hawks started displaying the Hero Killer's past crimes and a map of Hosu relaying sightings in the past two days. "We've had sightings of him around Hosu and we know that he never leaves to another city until he makes an 'example' out of multiple heroes."
Ignoring the first thought that came to his mind at the last comment, Fumikage voiced a question. "What shall our strategy be when we arrive at Hosu?"
"Well, we're flyers, so we'll be doing air surveillance with a few other heroes that can fly." Hawks explained as he moved the map of Hosu off the screens and into a three-dimensional hologram map. "We'll be taking the north sector of the city at dusk, survey the area as well as we can, and call in anything that is even remotely suspicious." He suddenly took his eyes off the map and looked his students dead in their eyes. "Look, you both will have my express permission to use your quirks to engage him, but only if it is a matter of life and death, otherwise you call it in and you trail him, understood?"
There was no room for miscommunication in his words and both teens nodded. "Is there anything else you need to talk to us about?" Izuku asked, floating around the couches.
"Nope! That's all." The holograms and screens turned off and Hawks began to walk away. "You can both rest for now, but I'll be going out for a fly in around two hours if you want to join." And then turned into his office. "Dismissed!"
Leaving Izuku and Fumikage to themselves. "…" They were both silent, but the latter was the first to speak. "Iida resides in Hosu with Manual, does he not?"
"Yeah, he does." Izuku responded, lowering himself to the ground and looking out the window as the Sun began its descent. "I didn't push enough when we left; I'm going to have a talk with him when we get there."
Fumikage was silent for a moment before standing up and standing next to Izuku. "I possess not your strange sixth sense." He started, revealing he knew something about Danger Sense. "But I can feel that this dark present we live in growing darker."
Izuku sighed and turned away from the window, the Sun disappearing over the horizon and shadow covering his back. "So do I."
Fukuoka City Streets, The Next Day
"Yes, Tsukuyomi! You're doing so much better than yesterday!" Hawks exclaimed as he flew alongside his bird-headed student, excitement growing as said bird boy even surged ahead of him. "Looks like my teaching methods from last night were effective then, yeah?"
The sheer audacity of the statement made Fumikage look at the red-winged hero incredulously. "Teaching methods?" He questioned. "You threw me off three different skyscrapers." There was an obvious hint of annoyance in his words. "And refused to catch me on the third."
"Yeah!" A hint of annoyance that Hawks dutifully ignored as he flied around his student. "And it worked like a charm!"
'Forget it.' Deciding to ignore the man, Fumikage focused his attention on his biggest weakness so far, sharp turns.
'Hahaha!' And next to him, Izuku was whipping around like a bird. "So, are we just doing a regular patrol today then?" He asked, flying through a feather ring Hawks made with his quirk. "Or are we doing something special?"
Flying through his own feather ring to get his feathers back, the red-winged hero smiled. "Hit it right on the nail, Izuku, we're going to do something special." Before dragging both of his students closer to him. "Now, have either of you heard of Trigger?"
Judging by their expressions, the hero could tell they didn't. "It sounds familiar but I can't place it./That sounds strange."
"Well, to put it simply, it's a drug." Hawks started, bringing out two feathers from his back; one large and one small. "It works by targeting a person's quirk factor and then spiking it with a bunch of chemicals – that I won't bother going into – which leads to something like this." The red-winged hero held out the small feather before switching it out for the large one. "Becoming this."
"Oh, right, quirk augmenting drugs." Izuku said as he smacked himself in the head. "Yeah, I've heard about those; originally used just to stabilise people who couldn't keep up with their quirks until villains began to reverse engineer them for criminal activity." Turning to look at his mentor, the greenette had an idea of what they were going to be doing. "I'm guessing the commission wants us to do something about it in the city then?"
Hawks grabbed both of his students with a feather and dragged them down onto a roof. "Correct, five points to Hufflepuff." Before bringing out a three-dimensional hologram mapping out the entire of Fukuoka City; the map itself was riddled with red and orange spots. "Our city specifically has a lot of trigger in it since we're a really big port-city; villains use this city to get foreign imports for substances that make trigger."
"And we are to shut down all of their warehouses?" Fumikage asked.
"Correct, five points to Ravenclaw." Hawks said as he highlighted the red spots on the map. "Warehouses, distribution points, pickup spots. Anything that's connected to the production, distribution, and consumption of trigger, we're hitting."
Fumikage raised his eyebrow at that. "With only the three of us?" At his mentor's nod, he scratched his head. "What if they were to use trigger on themselves?"
"Oh, don't worry, just hold out for a few minutes and you'll be fine." Hawks said with a wave of his hands. "We were able to intercept the last batch of imports so any trigger in circulation is made with local substances."
Both Izuku and Fumikage looked at Hawks with a confused look. "So…?/Meaning…?"
"Alright, if you're going to remember anything about trigger, remember this." Hawks started. "Japanese-made trigger, while it comes in large batches, is nowhere near as potent as European or American-made trigger; the drug will only circulate for five minutes at most before leaving the system." He then turned his attention to Izuku. "And you already faced someone on trigger yesterday at Kanto Baito."
It took a moment for the greenette to rig his head for the memory but it clicked pretty fast. "Oh, Scourge; I thought that he was just going full out to try and escape."
Hawks shook his head. "Nope, he actually had a variant of the drug known as Ideo Trigger; it's a lot more potent and usually throws the user into a rampage." The hologram suddenly shifted and zoomed in on a specific red dot in the city. "Anyway, it's time to get you two your first drug bust."
"Yes, sir!" Oh, they were excited.
"Woah, woah." And even though Hawks loved that, it wasn't the time for it, not yet. "Okay, first things first, we are pretty deep into enemy territory right now." He gestured to the red dot and the alleyway beneath them. "That red dot is where we are right now, it's one of the Gambler's main warehouses where they produce trigger."
"The S-Class villain that the Kesu Runners work for?" Fumikage asked, eyebrow raised.
Hawks nodded and walked over to the building's ledge. "The very same." Before gesturing for his students to follow. "Good news for us though, it's not a big facility, only two people are stationed at the front for guarding." Turning to his students as they stood next to him, he held out a handful of feathers. "Draw feathers, loser has to deal with the guards."
Rolling their eyes, the teens decided to go with it and each took out a feather. "Oh no." Which left Izuku with the short straw. "Alright, guess that means I get the guards."
"Yup, then it's just up to you two to knock out all the other villains in there." Hawks said with a smile, but quickly ended up tilting his head in confusion when his students looked at him funny. "What? This is how you get experience and you're more than capable of dealing with them."
Judging by the looks on their faces, neither teen believed that. "Seriously?" Though why they didn't is a bit of a mystery.
"Yes, seriously." And one that Hawks apparently didn't want to investigate. "It's a small facility, there'll be no more than a total of ten villains in that place."
"Ten villains possibly on trigger." Fumikage added, playing out the worst scenario game. "While I appreciate the confidence, I do feel though as we are underestimating the villains."
"And I think you're underestimating yourself." Hawks argued before patting Izuku on the back. "Also I'm the boss and what I say goes; now go on, the villains aren't gonna bust themselves."
Well, they couldn't really argue with that. "Very well." Fumikage relented before standing back. "Go ahead, Izuku."
The greenette in question just smiled before dropping down into a large recycling bin filled with boxes, creating enough of a commotion on impact to catch the attention of one of the guards. And just to seal the deal, he activated Smokescreen and let out a small plume.
"Oh, shit! It's another fire!" And did that get the guards moving. "I bet it was those middle school kids again!" The one speaking immediately ran to the end of the street and looked around the corners. "Goddamn brats!"
"Forget the kids!" While the other one looked like it was having a panic attack. "Last time they did that the boss yelled at us for playing around then cut our pay! I got rent and bills to pay, man! Not to mention student loans!" His tone took on a hint of embarrassment at the end. "You gotta help me put this out."
'Damn, now I almost feel bad about doing this.' Embarrassment that Izuku knew all too well but decided not to dwell on for now. 'Silver lining, I get to try out the speaker.' Before pressing a button on the side of the mask and speaking. "Domain Expansion: Cloud of the Flame's Ashes."
Immediately after speaking, the greenette let the full blast of Smokescreen out and half the alley became filled with a dark cloud of smoke. This, obviously, spooked the guards a little.
"AAH! IT'S A DEMON!"
"BEGONE HELLSPAWN! BEGONE!"
Alright, they were downright terrified. However, their screams didn't ring out for long as it only took Izuku a few short seconds after sending out the field to knock both villains out, dispersing the smoke as he did so.
It also revealed to the greenette a laughing Fumikage. "Domain Expansion? I did not know you had a barrier technique."
"What in the world was that?" And a confused Hawks. "I saw it yesterday on the footage, but I forgot to ask about it."
"One, not a proper barrier technique; I wish, but no." Izuku answered Fumikage first before turning to Hawks and holding up his arm. "And that was just a smokescreen." His arm began to glow a light pink and smoke began to wisp off it. "Fun little trick with my energy, if I burn it properly then I get smoke."
Luckily for the greenette, the confidence in his tone disguised his lies perfectly as the winged hero seemed to buy it. "Wow, you're really flexible with that quirk of yours." He said with a laugh. "Next thing I know you're gonna be thwapping out energy webs like that spider hero in America."
'I'm not flexible at all, I'm ridiculously lucky.' Izuku said to himself mentally while nodding. 'Actually, is that my real quirk? Because I kinda get out of terrible situations with the best outcomes possible a lot without ever really-'
"Okay, time for your drug bust." Unfortunately for Izuku, he couldn't continue his thoughts for long as Hawks grabbed both him and Fumikage and ran them over to the warehouse's door. "Oi, guys, delivery!" Before kicking in the door and throwing them both into the lion's den.
It took the two a total of three seconds before they were up on their feet, back-to-back, and analysing their surroundings.
"Hey! We got heroes!"
"What! Where?"
"Yo, it's just hero students!"
"They're sticking interns on us?"
"Man, fuck that! Let's mess 'em up!"
Well, at least they were passionate.
Based on looks alone, it became clear to Izuku and Fumikage that the five trigger producers present didn't have any quirks that would complement them in a fight as they all grabbed nearby pipes and bats before rushing the two.
Neither hero student even needed to try.
Izuku dodged the nearest villain's pipe and backhanded them in the throat, making them stumble and drop their weapon. "Take it!" And thus leaving him open for a double-legged dropkick that sent him right into his friend charging up.
Behind the greenette, Fumikage released Dark Shadow and let the sentient quirk pick up one of the villains before using them as a bat to bash against the other villains. "Hahaha! This is fun!" Though, it was short lived as it only took three swings before they were all down.
And with that, the warehouse was cleared.
….
….
….
"This seems too easy."
Alright then, you asked for it.
"Oi! Who the hell are you two?!" Looking up at the balcony, Izuku and Fumikage saw a large, dark-skinned man with a bald head that was compensated with a very long brown beard. "Oh, great, hero students!" He wore an entirely matte black three-piece suit with white wrappings around his fists. "It's embarrassing enough that my new employees can't even guard the front door without starting a fire, but now Hawks won't even send proper sidekicks to take me out, he just sends kids!"
Neither teen appreciated the older man's tone of voice; Fumikage was the first to address it. "Children we may be, villain, but trust that we are enough to put an end to your schemes."
"…I'm going to be honest." The man started as he took off his blazer and undershirt, revealing a surprisingly muscular chest littered with scars and bullet wounds. "I have no idea what you just said, but I didn't like your tone, so I'm going to take it as a threat."
"We just took out all five of your trigger producers in under a minute." Izuku started, not even powering up One For All. "So, unless you can do that too, I'd suggest a surrender."
Once more, the man looked confused. "A surrender?" Before bringing out a needle. "Why would I need to do that?" And stabbing it into his arm.
"Crap." The action elicited the same response from the two hero students and they didn't even have time to brace as a shockwave of force knocked them into the warehouse walls.
"That's much better." The dark-skinned man now had glowing purple eyes and his arms were coated in a similarly coloured energy. "Now, which of you two are going to die first?"
B-Class Villain, Virtus! Currently a laughingstock in the Fukuoka underworld since his last operation was shut down by Hawks and he is now working for the Gambler in a C-Class Facility, but he isn't any less powerful!
Virtus – Original Name: Bu Gokei; 武豪 矜 (Warrior of Powerful Pride)
· Quirk: Ego – Virtus' quirk allows him to turn his feelings of pride, confidence, and overall self-love into raw energy! He can then take this energy and coat his body in it for enhanced strength, speed, and even energy projection!
Rolling his arms, Izuku activated 20% of One For All right off the bat and let it wash his body. "Tsukuyomi, you secure the trigger producers and hand them to Hawks." Before jumping on his toes and entering a battle stance. "I'll deal with this gu-"
Virtus suddenly appeared in front of Izuku, fist clad in a purple energy and threw it right at the greenette's chest, sending him out of the warehouse and onto the street. "Very well, you will." Before rushing out onto the street himself.
'Why do I keep letting them get the first hit?' Turning around in the air and activating Float, Izuku quickly stopped himself from flying too far down the street and landed. "Alright, you got a lucky hit." He watched as Virtus stopped at his words; eyebrow raised high.
"A lucky hit?" The dark-skinned man seemed offended at the thought of luck playing a part in helping him. "I'm just too fast for you." And then got into a boxing stance, his purple glow getting stronger. "50% Ego! Be grateful I even show you half my power!"
'I won't even need more than 20% of my own.' Izuku was thinking of saying this out loud but decided against it at the last minute just to be kind.
Kind with his words; the greenette was absolutely ready to lay this guy out and, judging by the look on the other guy's face, the feeling was mutual. So, foregoing anymore words, the two rushed at each other, fists surging forward to strike with the utmost confidence that they would win.
And so, they were both unpleasantly surprised when their fists clashed and they found themselves at a standstill. Though, neither fighter let their surprise show and they immediately brought back their fists before moving in for another strike.
"Honourable Onslaught!" Virtus was the first to get this strike off; his purple clad fists settled into a boxer's stance and shot out at Izuku with ridiculous speeds.
'Left, right, up, right, left, down, repeat.' Unfortunately for the man, he was striking in a pattern. 'Counter.' One that the greenette exploited to land a charged backfist right in the man's face, making him stumble. "You're open!" And open for a good ol' dropkick.
"My guard is opened?" At least, so it seemed. "Who decided that?" Virtus suddenly disappeared from sight, making Izuku crash into the ground. "Fulfilled Fall!" And ergo now leaving him open for a dropkick.
However, knowing this, and having a good quirk called Danger Sense, Izuku was just able to move out of the way and horse kick the man in the face, slamming him onto his back. "I decided that!" Using this as an opportunity to knock him out and end this quickly, Izuku jumped high in the air before coming back down with an axe kick.
"You? Decide my fate?" Only to immediately regret it as Virtus' chest began to glow a furious purple. "You decide nothing!" Before a pillar of purple energy shot out of him. "Prideful Punishment!"
"Agh!" The beam hit Izuku head on and the greenette was sent further up in the air, high above the buildings and in full view of the entire ward.
"100% Ego!" And worse, Virtus was suddenly right behind him and completely coated in his energy with an axe kick already flying at him. "Be proud I show you this, child!" Once more, Virtus' strike rung true and was this time accompanied by a shockwave that would've blown away a building were they on the ground. "…What?"
This time, however, Izuku's face didn't budge an inch. 'One For All… 30%!' His eyes glowed with a silent fury and a positive, warming, yet intimidating glow was coming off his body. "My turn." The voices of nine combined into one to judge the soul that dared challenge them. "Fall."
That was when it came; a pressure so heavy and powerful that it could not be ignored. Those who went about their day suddenly felt as though they were weak, their wills crumbling as their knees shook, trying not to bend.
"Wait!" And as the trigger wore off, Virtus knew he couldn't get back to a normal life if he was to be hit. "I surrender!"
But it was too late; judgement struck true. A shockwave much more powerful than the one before, one that could be felt from the ground, rocketed across the sky as Izuku's fist made contact with Virtus' face and the man was sent down to the ground with speed. Yet even then, the greenette still managed to beat the dark-skinned man to the ground and catch him before he could impact the street as a meteor.
And as the glow left Izuku's body, only three words left his mouth. "It is done."
"Holy shit!" And that was a serious underreaction. "Huh, talk about a finisher, Izuku!" Hawks flew over to the green-haired teen with Fumikage and all the trigger producers in tow. "Gotta say though, did not think Virtus was gonna be here. The guy didn't peg me as someone that would work under somebody else."
With the high of the battle leaving him and his sense regained – 'seriously, why am I blacking out?' – Izuku looked at Hawks with a tilted head. "You know this guy?"
"Yup, he had a couple of city blocks under his control for a while until I moved in here." The red-winged hero explained. "He was one of my first official villains, actually; powerful chunk of meat that one." Before shaking his head and grabbing the dark-skinned man with his feathers. "Anyways, good job, newbies, you did that really fast!"
The two teens chuckled at that and shook their heads. "We kind of need to be." Izuku started. "Otherwise, you'll have them wrapped up with your feathers before we can blink."
Next to the greenette, Fumikage nodded. "Izuku is indeed right; you are one of this world's fastest heroes, our speed is paramount if we wish to learn for you."
This time, it didn't matter that Hawks didn't understand what the bird boy said, as he felt it in his heart. "Aww, you'll make me blush."
And with the small factory shut down and the villains tied up, the three heroes shot off to where they knew danger lurked; their day was only getting started.
Hosu, Dark Alleyway
Water dripped from broken pipes onto puddles of sickness. Light did not belong here, not in these alleyways. This is where the darkness lived, where criminals gathered to exchange, where troubled teens began their fall.
Today, it was where a well-known dark figure walked out of a purple cloud, clothes and blades stained with blood. "One hero purged… Too many too few…" And he was not happy. "Must rectify… Must purge… Or this city will fall to the false heroes!"
Omake – Hawks' Agency: Tsukuyomi's First Flight
Fukuoka City, Late Night
Hawks held his thumbs up as he placed Fumikage down on the top of one of Fukuoka's many skyscrapers. "You got this, Tokoyami, I believe in you!" He had just sent Izuku off with his support division to grab the entire agency takeout meaning he had the bird boy to himself.
"Has chaos consumed your senses?!" And Fumikage wasn't liking that fact one bit. "You will take me off this building's roof at once and fly us back to the agency!"
"You just gotta jump!" Hawks, however, was apparently very persistent. "A leap of faith; that's all it is!"
Fumikage really should've guessed by now that he wouldn't be taken off this building unless he jumped though; this was the third one tonight. 'Wait a second.' But, if he remembered correctly – it was traumatising, of course he remembers – Hawks caught him each time it looked like he would fail. 'Perfect.'
And so, a plan hatched to life.
Ring!
At the worst possible time.
"Yo, this is Hawks!" Picking up his phone, the red-winged hero turned away from his charge for a minute just to talk. "Oh, Midoriya, did you guys get the takeout yet?" Completely ignoring his student that executed a perfect swan dive off the skyscraper while wailing like a low-pitched banshee. "What, no, not pork, chicken! What do you mean Stim said it's not good for me? Katsudon is better?!"
"AAAAHHHH!" And as Hawks argued on the phone about food, Fumikage finally came to the realisation that he was not going to be caught if he didn't do something. "Dark Shadow! Assist me!"
Answering his brother's call, Dark Shadow came forth and relished in the darkness of the night. "YES!" But could not focus on it for long as he suddenly realised the situation they were in. "NO!" And immediately grabbed onto his host before pulling.
It was a struggle, the force of gravity almost proved too strong, but the sentient quirk managed to gather enough darkness to force them to do a 180 in the air, sending them surging back upwards.
"Tell Stim and her stupid little-woah!" And right past Hawks. "Yes! Midoriya, I'll be right back! Get what you want!" Before he shot off towards his student. "Hahaha!"
And as Fumikage relished in the feeling of flying through the air, one thought passed his mind. 'Revenge shall be mine, chaos and discord shall follow, beware of your actions toward me, as you may regret it tomorrow.'
