Chapter 197: Appearance of the Fossil Pokémon!
2024-05-15 Author: Samsung Charmander
"Looks like there's something good down here!"
An unknown lifeform coexisting with a pile of fossils, and deep underground at that. The two of them already had a faint guess, their eyes shining brightly.
Gary's back instantly stopped aching. His face flushed, he grabbed his iron pickaxe and began to dig furiously.
Not to be outdone, Ash, who was at the side, once again unleashed the Chaotic Cloak Pickaxe Method!
"Clang! Crack!"
"Clang! Crack!"
The worn-out iron pickaxes in their hands suddenly broke at the same time, turning into fragments.
*Ding! Your worn-out iron pickaxe's durability has reached 0. It has now disappeared.*
"Damn it, you think this is enough to stop me? Come on out, my darling!"
Gary threw out a Poké Ball with a flick of his wrist. A red light flashed, and an exceptionally magnificent and cool-looking giant brown eagle spread its wings and rose, crying out to the sky. Its aura was intimidating, and a hurricane rose with it.
Pidgeot!
This was the perfect tool Pidgeot, its training completed by Red, but its ownership belonged to Green.
Every time Green saw this Pokémon, he would get a pained expression on his face, which gave Gary a good opportunity to secretly "inherit" it. He often sneakily borrowed it, and it had to be said, it was perfect for use as a tool.
It could ascend to the sky, burrow into the ground, and enter the sea, as if moving through an uninhabited realm.
Gary waved his thumb and said with a laugh, "tool Pidgeot, use Dig on this spot!"
"Pidgeoooot!!"
Pidgeot was like a soldier strictly obeying orders, meticulous and precise.
After a loud cry, it shot into the sky. Its body circled in mid-air before its two magnificent giant wings twisted, and it began to spin wildly in the sky. From a distance, it looked as if it had turned into a giant brown drill.
"Vrrrmmm!!"
The giant drill Pidgeot changed direction, plunging vertically toward the ground. It continuously drilled downward into the rocky ground, carving out a deep pit.
"Holy cow, a Pidgeot can be used like that?"
Faced with this Pidgeot that had reached a high realm, Ash was not to be outdone and hastily threw out his own Poké Ball.
"Pidgeo-o-otto!!"
This was his Pidgeotto. Although its entrance was also flashy, the commotion it caused was nothing compared to the Pidgeot from before.
"Pidgeotto, see your senior over there?"
Pidgeotto: "?"
It looked at the Pidgeot that had transformed into a giant drill, completely baffled. A senior like that must have some screws loose. It didn't want to acknowledge it.
But Ash just waved his thumb and commanded:
"Copy its Dig, Pidgeotto! We'll use Dig too!!"
"Pidgeo?"
The Pidgeotto flapped its wings a few times, trying to spin in the air at a turtle's pace. It would work as a fan, but as a drill, it was far from the mark.
After all, there are many Uchiha, but there's only one Kakashi who can copy anything at will.
"Pidgeo-otto!"
But the Pidgeotto was a clever Pokémon, after all. It suddenly dropped back to the ground, then turned on the spot, its two chicken-like claws beginning to kick back sand and dirt.
Land-chicken-style Sand Attack Dig!
"Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh..."
A pit was also being dug deeper and deeper into the rocky ground in front of it.
And while it was at it, it kicked the excavated dirt into the tool Pidgeot's pit...
Gary: "?"
3 minutes later.
"I'm heading down. You take your time digging, heh."
Gary grabbed one of the tool Pidgeot's claws and was about to jump into the deep pit.
After three minutes of digging, Ash's Pidgeotto had only managed to dig a small hole, just big enough to bury itself in. Meanwhile, the tool Pidgeot had bored a pit five or six meters deep.
And the most surprising thing was, it seemed there was a cave with a gap below, not a solid rock layer.
"Good work, tool bird."
Ash quickly recalled his Pidgeotto into its Poké Ball and, with a flick of his wrist, also grabbed the tool Pidgeot's other claw.
"Scoot over. This giant eagle of the great Green was trained by my big bro Red. When he one day kicks the bucket, I get shares in it too."
Red: "?"
"Bullshit! This is my big bro Green's Pidgeot. When he departs from this world, I get all the shares."
Green: "?"
Each grabbing an eagle claw with one hand while trying to scratch the other's face with their free hand, the two of them descended into the cave in the deep pit, bickering all the way.
Deep within a pit, 10 meters beneath the Grand Canyon, lay a cave.
The environment was pitch-black and dry. Even the rocky ground underfoot was somewhat soft. The air was filled with an ancient, musty smell, as if it were an ancient land no one had ever visited.
The two of them carefully scanned their surroundings. With their naked eyes, they could barely perceive that the surrounding space wasn't particularly narrow; the cave was about four or five meters high.
"Hey, it's too dark. Have your electric mouse use Flash," Gary said suddenly.
Flash. A utility Move, essential for any Hiker.
Ash frowned. His Pikachu probably didn't know Flash, but he couldn't be outdone, so he had no choice but to say:
"Pikachu, use Flash!"
Pikachu: "?"
"Uh, just imagine you're a big lightbulb and shine light outwards," Ash tried to explain verbally.
"Pika."
Pikachu nodded, indicating it understood. Its talent was extraordinary; it could grasp most of a simple Move just from a verbal explanation.
"Pika, Chu!!"
Following its low cry, a brilliant golden light suddenly erupted in the deep cave. Caught off guard, it directly blinded the two of them, whose eyes had long since adjusted to the darkness.
"I'm blind, I'm blind!!"
"Aahh, my titanium alloy eyes!!"
A series of demonic howls, as if from the fiends of hell, instantly echoed through the deep cave.
Ash quickly reminded it:
"Pikachu, switch to power-saving mode, quick! Power-saving mode!!"
"Pika?"
Pikachu scratched its head and tried to condense the beam of energy and light to a three-meter radius around itself, like a shimmering golden torch.
"Finally, things are back to normal."
The two rubbed their eyes, and after a good while of adjusting, their vision finally returned to normal.
But if, on some future day, the two of them developed glaucoma or cataracts, this electric mouse would have to take the blame.
"Kree..."
"Chkk..."
But before the two could survey their surroundings, several rustling sounds suddenly came from the cave ahead, like the sound of insect joints rubbing together, making one's skin crawl.
The next second, several crimson points of light lit up out of nowhere on a small dirt mound not far in front of them.
It seemed the earlier high-powered Flash and their demonic howls had attracted some kind of creature.
"Pikachu, switch the Flash to normal mode."
"Pika!"
Pikachu flicked its tail, switching from power-saving mode to normal mode. The range of the Flash now covered a medium distance of five meters.
Instantly, the few unknown creatures were fully revealed.
At a glance, these few Pokémon could be divided into two types.
One type was a sea-creature-like Pokémon with a shell-like appearance. They had light blue bodies and carried a yellow shell on their backs. Several were on the smaller side, but among them was a larger one with more tentacles, a bigger shell on its back, and several spikes growing from it.
The other type was an earth-brown Pokémon. Ash recognized the smaller ones; they were Kabuto.
There was also a large, upright version of it, its dark body having grown slender limbs. It stood as tall as a human, and the two claws on its front had been replaced with sharp sickles that glinted with a cold light.
Pokédex: *Beep*. Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops. All are rare Fossil Pokémon, but in prehistoric times, they were incredibly common.
"Surely I don't need to introduce these Fossil Pokémon, do I? There isn't anyone who doesn't recognize them, right? Heh."
The Pokédexes of both trainers sounded out at the same time.
